The family's lucky this had a happy ending. The headline could've easily been "Family Dog Killed In Black Bear Attack".

And who really thinks she woke up her husband to say, "Would you please find out what Penny is up to out there?"

Black bears have every reason to fear dogs; Wolves are known to kill black bears for sport. Cockapoo, Yorky, whatever; it's still a wolf to them, and there could be more.

/NatGeo over.

I'm just glad they didn't shoot the bear. Same thing happened a few days ago in lower Michigan and the a-holes shot the bear in the tree.

Dogs are a lot deeper thinkers and well read than traditional human thought allows.

Perhaps some day in the near future, we will wonder why dogs philosophize about us chasing bears up trees.

Oh, and they want some damn broccoli.

People that don't know black bears get confused due to their general poofy fuzziness.

MooseUpNorth 2008-08-10 04:35:59 PM
Black bears are generally pretty shy. It's not that unusual for them to flee from stuff they really shouldn't be afraid of.

Now, show me a dog or cat that trees a grizzly, and I'll be impressed.

1) Feathers are light in comparison to many of the things I lift in a day.

2) All things being equal, I prefer solid but there are characteristics about the others for which I am quite fond.

3) In the darkness.

I don't understand why they put kids on TV or in commercials. I'm fine with the fact that they exist, but I really don't want to hear them try to tell a story.

Poor bear... was just trying to get his grub on. The dog wasn't protecting the family, he was just pissed that the bear got all the good stuff outta the garbage first.

Agreed. I've chased a full grown black bear and clobbered it with small rocks. One second my back was turned and the next second it was nosing my backpack. Be afraid of humans mr. bear, your life depends upon it.

I guess I am the only one that was pissed that they live in bear country and they left the garbage out where the bear could get to it. Asshats.

ComicBookGuy 2008-08-10 05:46:38 PM
I sped through the video, but didn't see a bear treed by a dog. I saw some breeder cow and a little fat kid (speaking true words of originality, I'm sure).

gregario: I'm just glad they didn't shoot the bear. Same thing happened a few days ago in lower Michigan and the a-holes shot the bear in the tree.

Here in the west, there is a season that you can run bears and lions with hounds. Every state is a bit different, but it is a good way to go bear hunting. I've done it myself. Alot of fun, if you can keep up with the dogs.
