Tow companies are filled with the lowest levels of human existence. These assholes should be charged with theft.

It's Chicago. They probably bought off the alderman councilman, so this will fall off the radar. Plus, it's only a hundred or so cars, who is going to remember in a week or 2?

/1 penny at a time...

Someone should sue them. My friend had his car towed in a similar manner when the DOT forgot to put up the no parking signs before they tore up his street. He had his friend take her film camera and take pictures of the workers putting up the signs after they had started working and then threatened to sue both the construction company and the DOT. They paid everyone's towing fees.

This happens in Atlanta a lot... they nailed a lot of people over the July 4th weekend this way... but in Atlanta's case, it was the city putting the signs up an hour before the parade, with a "parade" of tow truck drivers behind them hooking up cars.

When the state-run lot filled up during a holiday event around Boston several years ago, tow company employees directed overflow parking into adjacent business-owned lots where tow trucks were waiting to snatch the cars as soon as the victims walked away.

(I want to say it was around Alewife Station on July 4th, but I could be wrong.)

My friends had their cars towed even though they were legally parked when they were at someone's birthday recently. The tow guy admitted they were legally parked, but still made them pay $100 each to get their cars back. The police were of no help since they were parked in a different county than where they were towed (neither precinct wanted to claim jurisdiction).

My friend is already in contact with his father's lawyer friend and is going after the tow company's business license. He'd rather really hit them where it hurts instead of getting his $100 back.

Completely relevant to the story

In Texas, if you shoot the guy, you could claim you were "using deadly force to prevent the consequences of theft at night" and get away with it.

This happens to me with hookers all the time.

They threaten to call the cops if I don't pay.

But I have a badge.

50% of the time it works every time

No shiat. If any of those cars had an FOP gold medallion they would not have laid a finger on it. Speaks from experience. Parked illegally on West Chicago Avenue near Moody Bible and never got a ticket. Mine did. End of story.

Wait til Rev Jesse screams racism. It is probably true since the Bud Billiken is basically a 99% AfAm/black parade. If it gets the scum owner of the tow truck company in trouble, good.

I don't hate people. Just tow companies and their employees. I hope the all rot in hell.

My girlfriend went to renew her parking permit for Chicago and parked in a lot that had few signs and wasn't well lit. As soon as she was in the shop, a bunch of thugs from the tow company booted her car. She came out and was confronted by two huge guys basically extorting her in a dark parking lot. The wanted $120 on the spot to remove the boot and threatened to call the police and have her arrested if she didn't. While she was there three others parked in the same lot to renew their permits. Instead of warning them, the same people waited until they were gone and booted their cars as well.

These people are the scourge of the earth and I would have no problem with all being put out of business. I also blame the politicians for allowing this to happen, obviously in the back pocket of the companies.

Come on now. How Christian of you is that? Remember, hate the tow company, not the towers.

Seriously, though, tow companies are below time-share salespeople in my book.

Years ago I lived a few blocks from Division Street in one of the high rises. Every Friday and Saturday night, we would watch off our balcony the suburbanites getting their cars towed one after another from the empty lot next door.

For fun we would throw down a couple of firecrackers and watch these guys run for their life like they were back in 'nam or something.

Think thats a scam, Just wait till you move out into the country and get a ticket in the mail for a violation thats occured over a hundred miles away. This happens all the time, and trying to fight it gets you nowhere most of the time.

My advice is to call up a good TV News channel, They love to make fodder of these jerks and tear them a new azz.

Been towed in Chicago. Even after I paid a sober person money to drive my car to an area where me and my friends saw ZERO 'no parking' signs for hundreds of feet. 5 hours later and every car parked on that street the night before had been towed.

And getting a car from the impound lot is a nightmare! Waited in line for two and a half hours with others. One woman had brought her kid in and I witnessed this exchange:

EMPLOYEE: You can't have your kid here!
WOMAN: But she's sick and couldn't go to school. I need my car.
EMPLOYEE: We can't help you if your kid is here. It's the rules.
WOMAN: I can't afford no baby sitter and I already spent forty bucks on a taxi to get here. I can't miss another day of work to do this again tomorrow.
EMPLOYEE: Not my problem.

Finally this woman entrusted her child to the care of a kind stranger who agreed to wait outside with the kid while she took care of business.

Meanwhile, people after waiting in line had to prove the car was theirs, meaning getting a pass into the lot to get their registration and then waiting another two hours in line with their paperwork. I thought I would have to face that rigmarole too, but for some reason they assumed that the car was really mine.

Racist, terrible, ugly system that should make the whole city ashamed of itself. I said so in my appeal but the bastards have never gotten back to me.

I get angry thinking about it!

Towing company owners can all go DIAF. Furthermore the sentence for either working for or being the proprietor of a towing company should be punishable by a sentence of being fed alive to starving pigs. Feet first.
