I get quite a few of these. Daily. And everytime I get one, I immediately think of Barack Obama. These assholes really aren't doing Africa any favors. When I think of Africa, I think of pathetic and then I think of Barack Obama. Again. That is all.

Dear Sir/madam,

first, let me start by introducing myself as MRS SUSAN SHABANGU, a mother of three children and the Deputy Minister of Safety and Security since 29th April 1996 to date under the auspices of the President of South Africa MR THABO MBEKI.

After due deliberation with my children, I decided to contact you for your assistance in standing as a beneficiary to the sum of US$20.M (Twenty Million United States Dollars Only) You can view my profile at my website www.gov.za click on, Contact Information, then click on Deputy Ministries, and click on Safety and Security finally, click on my name Susan shabangu and read about me.

If only there was some real talk of getting spending down to a manageable level.

These people would run a deficit at a 100% tax rate.

McCain is smearing negative ads all over my area on this issue. Last night during the Olympics I counted at four different commercials labeling Obama as "change" and then blasting his tax plans. I should expect it as my state is highly Democratic.

You can't even figure out how to capitalize a sentence. Thus, you might not want to be making any claims of intellectual superiority. As for all the taxes you've paid... being a tax exemption for your mom up until your 21st birthday doesn't really count.

What's more, there's nothing inherently wrong with government spending.

Governments are no different than Farkers: some invest wisely, some do not.

Quality is always more important than quantity in investing. Who cares how much less you spent on dogshiat: it's still crap.

And most of THAT comes from closing that loophole which allows the mega-rich to only pay a maximum of 15% on their share dividends.

They might be making the money, but I wouldn't go anywhere near as far as to say they 'earned' it.

cityrag.blogs.com

Here's Paris Hilton. She parties so hard for eight hours a day, she has to sleep the other sixteen. But what about the rest of us? (new window)

Well, we could vote to close the loophole. And have those that have profited so very much from being born into wealth in America pay their fair share.

jake3988: Anyone who thinks taking in MORE money means a deficit happens is just plain stupid. Do you not understand 1st grade math?

You're an idiot.

What would government revenue look like if the tax rate was 100%? Probably wouldn't look too good the year after that was enacted, would it? What about at 99%? 98%? 97%?

There's a 'sweet spot' somewhere between 0 and 100%. Takes more than a 1st grader to figure out where that is.

1) Please tell us what you think that the standard definition of "tax" is, and then tell us how it would apply to inflation.
2) Please tell us how inflation is regressive.

Why does it seem the majority of people only look at deficits from the Tax side of things. You have tax and spend on one side, and borrow and spend on the other. Both sides solution to fixing the deficit continues to be borrow/tax... why not look at the easier side to fix, the spend side. Cut out the government waste. They are only efficient at one thing, losing or misusing tax funds.

cryptozoophiliac 2008-08-10 12:41:28 PM
Taxes strictly speaking are moneys paid directly to the government on sales or income.

But when the government prints an increasingly large amount of money to fund policy, that's just a sleight-of-hand tax (assuming of course that the goal of taxation is to fund policies for the commonwealth.)

Someone has to pay that bill, and it generally isn't the members of Congress or their private sector associates.

Partisan 2008-08-10 12:42:15 PM
MyRandomName: Cut out the government waste.

Looks like both you and McCain are believers of the "Government Waste-Cutting Fairy". It doesn't exist. "Cutting waste" is a meaningless talking point. What do you think we should cut?

From Obama's website, just fyi:

Barack Obama's Plan
Restore Fiscal Discipline to Washington

* Reinstate PAYGO Rules: Obama believes that a critical step in restoring fiscal discipline is enforcing pay-as-you-go (PAYGO) budgeting rules which require new spending commitments or tax changes to be paid for by cuts to other programs or new revenue.
* Reverse Bush Tax Cuts for the Wealthy: Obama will protect tax cuts for poor and middle class families, but he will reverse most of the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest taxpayers.
* Cut Pork Barrel Spending: Obama introduced and passed bipartisan legislation that would require more disclosure and transparency for special-interest earmarks. Obama believes that spending that cannot withstand public scrutiny cannot be justified. Obama will slash earmarks to no greater than year 2001 levels and ensure all spending decisions are open to the public.
* Make Government Spending More Accountable and Efficient: Obama will ensure that federal contracts over $25,000 are competitively bid. Obama will also increase the efficiency of government programs through better use of technology, stronger management that demands accountability and by leveraging the government's high-volume purchasing power to get lower prices.
* End Wasteful Government Spending: Obama will stop funding wasteful, obsolete federal government programs that make no financial sense. Obama has called for an end to subsidies for oil and gas companies that are enjoying record profits, as well as the elimination of subsidies to the private student loan industry which has repeatedly used unethical business practices. Obama will also tackle wasteful spending in the Medicare program.

I know this is Fark and all, but I wish commenters (as opposed to sumitters, all of whom are trolls in a certain sense) would not always freak out like this. One columnnist in one paper hardly makes the "media" liberal or conservative. But, sure as shooting, a headline like this stirs up the same old same old.

In the last two weeks the way the media tiptoed around the Edwards affair story makes a much better argument for a media biased in some way, not that I think they actually are, all that much.

So we vote for a candidate that will balloon the deficit less? Bullocks to that. Why don't we vote for a candidate that will want the government to spend less as much as tax less (specifically, the middle class)? Obama's plan says he'll cut taxes for the middle class, but his plan won't do much about scaling back the size and overall spending of our federal government. It's why I won't vote for him and will continue to vote Libertarian.
