The new CD is actually pretty impressive. There's a rather intense little ditty directed at Mark David Chapman, of all people.

"Jessie's Girl", it ain't.

He made good 1980s pop. I wonder if I dare check out his new stuff.

Jesse's Girl is one of those 80's songs that holds up really well, unlike, say, Jukebox Hero. You know what's another one? Sister Christian. Both of which were perfect in what was maybe the best scene of one of the best movies of the 90's...

I don't like to be told wheat to listen to or when to listen to it or ANYTHING!

He made some decent radio tunes way back when, and Jessie's Girl is a classic.

And he's back on "General Hospital" with a love interest. Yes, a hot G-to-be-ILFable love interest. GIS Finola Hughes/Anna Devane for proof.

Dare.

The first 7 songs are pure awesome, I don't care who wrote or sang them. Songs 8, 9, 10, 11 are just okay. Song 12 (Saint Sahara) is fantastic.

You can listen to the samples of them at rickspringfield.com, of course.

Go for it. Either his newest or "Shock, Denial, Anger, Acceptance" which has some truly brilliant moments.

Warning, however...SDAA is *not* Rick Springfield, pop guy. It's Rick Springfield, seriously pissed off dude.

Time warp? Well, he's a vampire, so he might as well be from transexual transylvania.

Jesse's Girl still rocks. I was just listening to a few of his tunes a few days ago.

Okay, the guyliner's kind of scary on a guy who's almost sixty but the dude still rocks out. Fairly underrated guitarist too.

/first single I ever bought was "Speak To The Sky" in 1972; I was five

As a freshman at WVU in 1982, there was a girl on my dorm floor who had past a serious crush on him. It was closer to stalking. She would send him mash notes certifed, return receipt mail nearly daily. Needless to say, she washed out after first semester and dragged her fat ass back to New Jersey. *waves at Marian*.

He wrote his own stuff. He can sing it live. He can actually play a musical instrument.

One of the few pop musicians from the 80's who didn't sell his soul to Stock, Aitken, and Waterman.

Nice to see him still making music.

JeffKochosky 2008-08-13 10:41:31 AM
While "Jesse's Girl" is a good song, I've always liked "Don't Talk to Strangers" more. Jonathan Coulton (yes, the same guy who does "Code Monkey" and "Skullcrusher Mountain") did a fantastic cover of it on one of his "Song a Week" albums.
