I text in complete sentences. Where is my news article?

Oh wait, I'm 31.

floor9 [TotalFark] 2008-08-10 08:59:41 AM
Honestly, with the advent of T9 -- EIGHT YEARS AGO -- it's actually harder and slower to type "OMG R U 4 REAL? NE1 ELSE?" than "Oh my god, are you for real? Anyone else?".

Rainbowtyedye [TotalFark] 2008-08-10 09:07:31 AM
I drove yesterday and didn't speed. I'll be holding a press conference this morning at 11am.

See if you can get the Washington Post to cover it. Apparently they've run out of news.

I see my work here is done, although I am actually 31 too which is a bit spooky.

Yep. I wish it could be a little more logical in predicting what I want to say, though; I once asked my son if he was "coming good". (supposed to say "coming home")

NeverDrunk23 2008-08-10 10:15:27 AM
I type out in full sentences with punctuation. In other news, it takes me about an hour to send a text.

I'm pretty sure the Jill we both know and love would smack the hell out of you if you sent that to her in a text.

crazy.....

How the hell is this news? I've been doing it right since texting came out, maybe I should have contacted the news about this myself.

I'll be correctly installing a roll of toilet paper later, you guys might want to have a few news crews down here for that.

It is quite heartening to witness the rousing spectacle of a youthful person engaging in what those of more august years would consider sound and responsible behaviour. The level fortitude and bravery require of this noble citizen to reject the vacillating whimsy of their peers and engage in full and proper discourse via the electronic letter-conveying medium is not to be scoffed at by those of a more settled station.

I must sign-off now, I have an auto-gyro to Siam waiting.

"It's the only way we communicate," Glass's friend Desirae Holland, 15, said in an uncharacteristic cellphone interview. "I text 'Willum' all the time. I'm actually texting him right now."

He snagged himself an older chick, but wtf? Willum?

I used to text in complete sentences when I had a cellphone. Might've taken a while longer, but I'm sure my IQ didn't drop in the process. Not quite sure what the appeal of texting is. Quick notes are one thing (I did it just to fark around with my friends while at work), but full conversations?

what's worse is people who write actual notes (with pen and paper) in shorthand. Good god it's illegible!

I agree. I actually saw a resume the other day where the person couldn't compose a sentence. Frightening.

Jombafomb1 2008-08-10 12:07:21 PM
I don't think my grammar ever progressed beyond a third grade level (which is why I refuse to submit a headline) but I have a serious disdain for people who text in abbreviations.

The first time I saw "LOL" I knew we were doomed.

turbotikigod 2008-08-10 12:07:44 PM
Not to nitpick but he mispelled "region" in the video depicting his "crazy" skills.

..and I am aware that I misspelled misspell, but then again, I didn't have a news article written about my crazy skills.

"Fourteen-year-old Maryland teen texts without abbreviations, bad grammar."

But he spelled region as "reigon" on his text message that was shown 52 seconds into the video....

Well, I was going to point out that I use complete sentences, but because I have a phone with a full QWERTY keyboard. However, I see that they guy in the article does too...

Jombafomb1 2008-08-10 12:13:01 PM
By the way the kid sends 800 Text Messages a month?

I'm pretty sure my little brother does that within 3 or 4 days, and he doesn't have a fancy QWERTY Blackberry. Just a Razor that's held together with duct tape.

Chabash 2008-08-10 12:14:07 PM
I hate to say it, but I wouldn't have had a problem with students, in my classes, texting each other if I knew they were using proper English. But they would turn in papers with god knows what written in place of words. This kid deserves a medal or at least a hot dog and a hummer.

Saners 2008-08-10 12:17:32 PM
I'll be turning 32 in 12 years.
What a coincidence!

...his thumbs quickly flying across his phone's Qwerty, or mini-keyboard.

Are they implying that "Qwerty" is another word for "mini-keyboard?"

Get off my lawn.
