That was a really nice article, with adorable pictures to boot. It's also refreshing to see that the family is still planning on releasing him when he's able.

I'm not so sure releasing him's a good idea. He won't be afraid of humans or dogs. Both of whom hunt his kind. I'm thinking that, with his early imprinting, release to the wild is kind of cruel.

/Even a bit irresponsible.
//Are they teaching him to feed himself? Or defend himself?
///Don't think they know what "wild" means.
/Slashies!

berylman 2008-08-10 09:19:22 AM
It would be interesting to see if the fawn picked up any hound dog like behaviors after being raised in a pack like that. Catching rabbits, cryin' all the time, etc.

eddyatwork [TotalFark] 2008-08-10 09:19:47 AM
They shouldn't release the deer into the wild. It would be cruel since it thinks dogs and people are its friends.

FTA

Deer stalking, where the hunter is close enough to kill the animal with a clean shot, is still permitted but with no more than two dogs.

because 3 or more would be just vile

That's the best picture of a deer humping a dog that I've ever seen.

Wow... that is so cute!!! I love these kinds of stories. And yeah, I don't think the little guy will survive once they release him. But they'll probably figure that out in time and find another solution... maybe keep him outside with the pack?

Meh. Hell probably do ok if hes in an area with no hunting. The first time he runs into a dog that goes for him will teach him, and people probably wont bother him much cept to yell about getting OFF MAH LAWN!!

Good thing this isn't in the United States or the ASPCA would go in and say that the person has too many dogs then make a false claim of "abuse." Then they would sell all of the dogs to random people who may or may not abuse or mistreat the now separated dogs.

SIXTY DOGS?

That's... too many dogs. For anyone. I don't care if you're hunting a T-Rex.

Hounds are noble creatures that have more sense than most people I have met. And fark all the tightasses who were too pussified to think about foxhunting and led to it being banned. Fark them right in their stupid asses.

Maybe the guy's a fox hound breeder?.

*Reads TFA*

Ok, what the hell are you hunting with sixty hounds, unicorns?.

I've gone foxhunting with Doc Addis's hounds near Morgantown Pa. with over 60 Penn-Mary-Del hounds. Like a waterfall-wall of sound coming through the woods. Awesome. And they're the sweetest most cuddliest-wuddliest hounds to play with...

Private Dick 2008-08-10 01:11:32 PM
Aww... Isn't that cute? Ever seen what a pack of hounds does to a trapped fox? Awww, isn't that brutal?

I am so jealous I have always wanted to go foxhunting, minus the fox getting killed.

There was a lot of the Avro Arrow in the Mig-25.

Overturn_Murphy's_law 2008-08-10 03:00:48 PM
they rarely hunt with all 60, they'll rotate them, too many inexperienced hounds on a hunt can lead to disaster (like running deer, instead of foxes and coyotes)

/worked as a caretaker at a foxhunting club for three years
//misses my hounds

Fahkinell 2008-08-10 03:18:09 PM
Well, I certainly want one.

but could the arrow scrape space at mach 3?

veryunoriginal [TotalFark] 2008-08-10 04:37:20 PM
Nah, but Mach 2 @ 50,000 in 1958 is still pretty good.

/Thinking of the Arrow makes me cry.

Wikipedia!

"In the first twenty minutes of a fawn's life, the fawn begins to take its first steps. Its mother licks it clean until it is almost free of scent, so predators will not find it. Its mother leaves often, and the fawn does not like to be left behind. Sometimes its mother must gently push it down with her foot. The fawn stays hidden in the grass for one week until it is strong enough to walk with its mother."

Aren't fawns usually abandoned on purpose? They're safer alone, so they're not vulnerable to predators drawn to the mother's scent (until they can outrun them), right? And once that fawn starts to smell like an actual deer, I think he may have some issues with his "family" of hounds... no?
