(Quad City Times) Interesting Perhaps it's because of the cold and lonely midwestern nights, but Illinois won the Tug Fest   (qctimes.com) divider line 27

Nothing like a mass-wedding and some tugging to make a good start to a marriage.

FTA:Iowa tuggers are chewing over how they got completely left in the dust Saturday during the 22nd annual Tug Fest tug-of-war across the Mississippi River.

I'm from Iowa. Let me click on over to foobies and we can have a Tug Fest Re-match.

I read that headline as "Fug Test". I wonder what Tuli Kupferberg is doing right now.

Tug fest?

Isn't that something sailors do?

Dinty Moore's Law 2008-08-10 03:29:39 AM
Sorry, Iowa. You're outnumbered.
The sheer volume of jackoffs, and nickel-dicks in Illinois give us a talent pool that you couldn't possibly compete with.

/You're still a 2:1 favorite in the upcoming Cornhole competition.

Wow. Never thought I'd live long enough to see my town make Fark. (Yes, I went to Tug Fest. Took my kids to the fireworks yesterday).

Oh, and Dammit Princeton! Revenge for last year, I guess.

A 2,700 foot rope pulled taut over the Mississipi? That alone is sort of cool, the rest of the story not so much. It would be an evil prank to boat into the middle of the river and cut the rope where no one could see you do it.

Ahahahaha, so anyhoo... not going to RTFA, but I will comment on what was probably my funniest internet moment... my husband and a few of his colleagues did a search for "Tug Jobs".

/Yeah, they're sailors

I used to drive by the area where the event is held. It's damn impressive. We used to stop for gas on the Illinois side at a small gas joint. They promote that shiat all year long; bands, food, etc. I bet it's a great way to spend a day.

The river is pretty big right there, I wish I could have been there that day.

There would be no way to cut the rope unless you had a helicopter.

Yeah, we actually run a rope across the Mississippi, and have tug of war, the Quad Cities is a lot cooler than most people could ever imagine. But it's ok, we let everyone think we're just a bunch of hick farmers, keeps out the riff raff.

So it's ok to "get my tug on" now?

/what my brother used to call it
//after he died a couple of years ago, I had to clean up his apartment
///he apparently really liked getting his tug on

I do too, but that's just between us, ok?

It's the Quad City Times, a newspaper so bad my journalism professor used it as a example of how not to run a newspaper.

/and I understand he wasn't the only one.
