Somebody never read the comics and I'm not talking about Subby.

It ain't pretty, Sweetheart.

Can't wait to see the reviews of Weapon X..."OH, THE BRUTALITY!!"

You know how when the Joker is caught the cops say there is nothing to identify the guy and that even his clothes are homemade? I'd love to see those scenes. The Joker at his sewing machine, putting together his pants and shirt. I hope that's on the DVD.

Maybe the DVD will use time-lapse photography to show how the knives and lint accumulate in his pockets.

Yeah! I mean, sometimes you take out the coat you haven't worn since last winter, and hey! there's that knife you left in there. You were wondering where it went.

Okay, I just died! Check my pockets. I've got a 4 inch Cold Steel in there somewhere. If you find it, it's yours. You know what to do with it. It's all part of the PLAN.

The Joker has a similar slash across his face, a permanent sadistic smile which, he explains, he acquired because his drunken father carved it into his face when he was a child.

The mindlessness of the Joker's violence is easily understood. His world view has been altered by an overpowering, traumatic violation at home. When you know this about him,the shooting of his friends and accomplices in the bank robbery makes some sense.

Weren't paying much attention, were we?

"The victim is petrified, frozen in terror, paralysed into powerlessness, and then the blood flows."

uh no.

granted its late at night, but I am either missing something or this article is an insta-fail in the first paragraph for inventing shots that weren't in the film.

"The knife is shoved inside the victim's mouth and pulled from one side of the face to the other, the blade ripping a smile across the cheeks. The victim is petrified, frozen in terror, paralysed into powerlessness, and then the blood flows."

wtf did I see the PG version? because that would have been awesome!!! except that what she describes ISNT IN THE MOVIE. farking dumb biatch. also, the "victim", whose blood never flows and who you never actually see get cut, is a damn evil gangster.

as for there being no moral context, its farking full of it, that dumb biatch just can't understand subtext or morally relativistic themes.

The Joker has a similar slash across his face, a permanent sadistic smile which, he explains, he acquired because his drunken father carved it into his face when he was a child.

Someone didn't actually see the movie because if they did someone would realize that the Joker makes up a different story each time.

Ms. Batmanghelidjh's next article will no doubt be expressing concern over the awful murder of King Hamlet and how that's damaging to our children.

Miggity: i didnt even RTFA after the opening sentences but apparently according to CommandantVonThrash's post it continues to fail. horribly.

Yeah, pretty much. She's adding quite a bit of "detail" (things that weren't in the film) to her retelling, and misses the point of the movie entirely. Yeah, the movie was violent, but the violence serves a purpose.

Mouser 2008-08-10 03:34:52 AM
Once you've seen a few people get blown up or shot, the rest becomes a boring variation. Lack of depth and emotion makes this film lazy and forgettable. Even the technical artistry is diminished in the service of violence. Young people yearn for more than the showing off of weapons of destruction. The mind using the weapon is infinitely more interesting than the weapon itself.

So I should skip the movie and rent A Clockwork Orange instead?

It's a movie.

Thray 2008-08-10 03:36:34 AM
Ehm...I guess I'll put myself up to be lambasted here, but it seems like she's less objecting to the violence in the film, and more objecting to the lack of aghast reaction by "extra" characters in the film to the violence, and lack of depiction of "good" morality in the face of the bad (except for the Batman himself and some other main characters I assume). I guess. Haven't seen the flick yet so can't really even comment on what I actually think, but that seems to be what she's aiming at. *shrug* It can be a good point about empty, gratuitous violence in movies.

ok well she shouldn't make shiat up for the shock value. she is undoubtedly aiming for what you say, but also undoubtedly aiming her article towards concerned parents and those that haven't actually seen the movie who are now going to repeat those lies and go "OH I NEVER!" without ever having seen the movie.

See, I thought the point of the movie was the indifference of the public in the film. Otherwise, the final scenes of the film have no meaning.

Mugato: You know you're an idiot when you can't understand a comic book movie.

Honestly. My girlfriend, who had never read/watched anything Batman related before understood it just fine. Her Weeners on leaving the movie was "They all spend a lot of time explaining themselves in that movie. Everyone had a soliloquy on how they view the world."

It was certainly somewhat high-minded for a comic book movie, but even then it reaches down to give you a hand up if you need it. The only excuse to not get it is not paying attention, and this lady certainly wasn't.
