I think the name gives that one away.... who eats something like that?

this list gets recycled and posted every six months or so. So the question is "why the hell do I keep going through this list?"

I think my brain hopes the info will change. I hope those delicious but fat-and-calorie loaded honey-chipotle crispers at Chili's will suddenly be absent from the list, granting me leave to order them.

ah, the battle of the bulge... or, me vs. my lack of willpower.

Just how many times am I going to see this terribly formatted list before I die? At the current rate, it's somewhere around 23987383828 more times.

Indeed. I saw a dude ahead of me in the checkout line with a cart full of these. He spent over $200 on them in one go. He didn't look too unhealthy so he's either using them to degrease an engine or he works hard for a living.

Sure calories 'suck' but most of these 'meals' have too much salt, fat, cholesterol, and very little real nutritional value.

What? No Good Morning Burger?

We take eighteen ounces of sizzling ground beef, and soak it in rich, creamery butter, then we top it off with bacon, ham, and a fried egg. We call it the Good Morning Burger.

These meals are salted lard and little else. My ex sister in law worked in a food lab where they bend starch to taste like real food so the chains can make this stuff as cheaply as possible. She felt like a criminal and had to find another gig.

A nice way to slim down is to actually cook something instead of eat out every day.

My mother is pretty overweight.
When I lived with her, 90% of the meals she ate came from a restaurant of some sort.

Personally, I like the quiet and privacy of my own home more than any other setting...that alone makes it worth it to stay home.

/that being said, I really want to punch whoever did that layout

Hooples?

Anyway, I don't think the idea they're sending is "calories are poisonous." I think they're trying to warn people that if they're eating these foods (or ones just like them) regularly, then they are just taking in too many. I wouldn't call tylenol poisonous, but taking in too many isn't exactly a good thing for you.

You point out that you sometimes will have 2000 calories in a meal, but not every day. That's exactly the right idea. When you get right down to it, unless there's a medical condition to consider, no food should really be forever "off-limits," condemned by anyone trying to maintain they're weight. There are just some foods, like the ones listed, that should be eaten very rarely.

Absolute deprivation is detrimental to dieting (+3 for alliteration) anyway. Saying "I can never have this" just makes you want it more. Saying "I can have it anytime, just once and I'm ok for a while" makes things much easier.

/nutrition major and former fatty, getting a kick, etc.

Just a wild guess but people didn't sit on their fat ass in front of their TVs and computers all day or drive everywhere instead of walking before these things were invented.

If you ate EVERY SINGLE MEAL OF YOUR LIFE at these establishments,
then, OK, you'd be a lard ass, but, places like Ruby Tuesday's etc...are not meant to replace every meal that you eat, not that you could afford it anyway.

TheDaymoose 2008-08-09 05:18:51 PM
These lists are the only things that make me feel good about never eating condiments. Seems most of the things on the list are always coated in lard packed mayo, chipotle, or ranch
