Personally, I'd much rather think about this than the implications of a war between a NATO proxy and Russia. Let's talk it to death so we don't get anxious. I'll start:

I'll bet he IS the baby's daddy! Oooo, his wife is going to be pissed!

He's still a douche, though.

I dunno, I'm kind of hoping that he has at least some sort of redeeming quality, like maybe it actually is the aide's kid and he's taking care of 'em from some sort of real loyalty to his staff. The amount of disdain I have for Edwards' character at this point kind of makes me uncomfortable, it throws off my assessment of the basic decency of human beings.

If Edwards didn't think he was the daddy, the first thing he would have done was gotten the test. Then he would have denied the hell out of the whole thing.

I wondered that at first, too, but I'm guessing that what they are talking about is the implication that she was sleeping around with other people at the same time she was with Edwards.

I'm equally disgusted with John Edwards and convinced that he's probably not the father. This woman is one odd duck. Anybody who inspired a character in the book "American Psycho" has some issues.

Umm...how can you possibly be convinced that he's not the father? The guy cheated on his cancer stricken wife with a crazy looking freak and has lied about it. How can you possibly believe that it is so far outside the realm of possibility that the kid is his?

Me, too. This rumor was going around about this in late August last year - there was a reference to it on a gossip site. That makes the timing just about right.

This. And on top of that, the younger sister wouldn't have thrown down the challenge if her sister hadn't told her Edwards was the babydaddy.

I think they are both douchenozzles. Edwards is a douche not simply for cheating on his wife, but doing so while using her as a political prop to deflect criticism because she is a cancer survivor. This woman is a douche for sleeping with an obviously married man, and for carrying on in that manner with other people. But you have to ask yourself.

Why would Edwards admit to the affair, but deny the child? The damage is already done. It can't be about money, because if she wanted child support, she could just go to the court and demand the test. It can't be about stigma, because let's not kid ourselves. Cheating on your cancer-ridden wife ranks up there just as poorly as having an illegitimate child.

I love how all of you bash the woman when it was Edwards who put his dick in her. I hope he is the father and he has to pay through the nose. Fark Edwards, stupid prick.

FatRatBastard [TotalFark] 2008-08-09 06:04:10 PM
Why would Edwards admit to the affair, but deny the child?

1. He really isn't the father; the affair ended a log time ago.

2. He claimed that it was a brief affair and it was over before his wife's new bout of cancer was discovered. Count nine months back from the kids birth, and if Edwards was the father, he would have knocked his chippy up *after* discovering the return of cancer.

If 1. then why did he go meet Hunter in the middle of the night three weeks ago? Why are his friends bankrolling Hunter's living expenses?

I suspect he's trying to minimize the damage with the whole "I'm a cheating dirtbag, but not an uber, third degree douchebag of a dirtbag who cheated on a cancer stricken wife whose illness I used during my campaign" hoping that it will now all go away.

1) Affair... bad
2) Affair while wife is dying of cancer... very bad
3) Using dying wife as campaign prop... going to hell

He ran for President knowing full well that he had a career-ending story in the shadows.

Imagine if Edwards had somehow won, and became the Democratic nominee. He would have single-handedly given Republicans the White House because he was so unbelievably narcissistic and evil.

The issue here is child support from a wealthy father:

There is room in this place for Edward's whole family and wife and Mistress would never have to see each other.

Man, thats going to be embarrassing as fark for the democrats if they find out he couldn't keep it in the pants. And then Obama & Clinton so actively sought his endorsement.

Its probably not a deal breaker, but it'll definitely give the Republicans some new fodder for the PAC's to run ads when the dems can't hit back because of the Olympics.

This is pretty bad hypocrisy, as a former Edwards supporter I know I feel betrayed. If he runs his family into the ground like this what would he do to the country?

That's just silly. I'm sorry, but I'm not saying an affair makes him a great man, but it has no bearing on his ability as a leader. We are way to preoccupied with sex. It should be absolutely none of our business, but between him and his ... women.

And nothing he's done is hypocritical. Maybe a tad dishonest, and definitely hurtful toward his wife. But neither him nor Clinton...nor McCain...are hypocritical for having affairs. I just wish it was separate from politics. My opinion of Clinton is in no way swayed by that "scandal."

More or less this. The woman's behavior was shady, but Edwards was actually breaking an oath he'd willing bound himself with. You know, oaths? The same form of contract that binds, say, congressmen to serve their constituents and the country when executing their public office?

I really never understood people thinking that the inability of a public official to keep one of the more important contracts of their lives does not reflect on their ability to hold office. It really has nothing to do with the sex, it's a demonstration of an overall lack of good faith in ones' dealings. Same reason you don't want to get outed in public for cheating on your wife if you're, say, CEO of a corporation -- you're establishing yourself as not being as good as your word, and that's bad for business.

I know most politicians aren't as good as their word, of course, and in fact most aren't fit for public office. But they're supposed to at least pretend they aren't completely unreliable. We're not 11th-century France, having a mistress on the side (and, in fact, the whole women-as-chattel thing) isn't an implied part of the marriage thing now.

This guy is just a pity case. Played around with a younger, thin, sexy woman while his wife was fighting a serious illness at home with the kids. She had stood by him all those difficult years and suddenly, she's second fiddle. How can people now vote for this guy as President. What? Oh, sorry, I thought this was a anti-McCain thread.
