Taking in McCain's performance is like watching the Star Wars prequel trilogy, where something once perceived as great was utterly debased by a man not knowing when to bow out and let history be.

more of that "respectable" campaigning John?
I have to say having your negative attack ads pop up in the middle of the Olympic opening ceremonies was about as tasteless as you can get. I hope everyone is getting as tired of your juvenile mocking as I am.

Is this finally McCains :"He talks like a fag and his shiat's all retarded" moment?

clgrin: Is this finally McCains :"He talks like a fag and his shiat's all retarded" moment?

I think that was when he came out with the tire gauges.
or when he made the distinction between his 16 months withdrawal plan vs. Obama's that amounted to "if I do it it's a win if Obama does the same thing it's a loss."

I'm still waiting for McCain to appear on Olbermann's show. Obama has been on Fox news a couple of times now. how about showing some intestinal fortitude there Maverick and venture into the batter's box where someone won't toss you softballs?

Oh wait. You've told far too many lies for that. You might get called on them. I don't think Olbermann likes donuts.
Seriously Olbermann should dare him to come on and put one of those stupid clocks like Fox new did for Obama up and everyday remind folks how much of a media darling McCain really is.

FlashHarry: how's that "respectable" campaign going there, maverick?

How is this radio address an unrespectable attack?

McCain says Obama's speeches are long on rhetoric and short on substance. He equates his speeches to summer movies. He babbles on about the usual taxes, govt, future of the country campaign staples.

the most 'objectionable' thing he said was "recommending that he should consider someone with a knack for brevity and directness, to balance the ticket."

Not the way I would have gone, and I think it's ultimately going to prove ineffective, but hardly anything but Pres. campaign ear-candy.

I like how the media was predicting McCain would use his early nomination as a way to establish himself under the radar. As near as I can tell, he was napping the whole time and having his aides lurk Fark and steal the worst trolls they could come up with to sue as campaign fodder.

/still waiting for a McCain ad that is Pro-McCain and not Anti-Obama.

Watching McCain's campaign become more negative is a little like watching my dad grow old and bitter, and realizing that my respect for both McCain and my dad has pretty much vanished this year.

Shaggy_C: Heh...that's actually a pretty slick line.

It is! Finally, something that sounds good coming out of that campaign. A pity that its an attack line.

I full expect Obama's nom nom nom acceptance speech to be pretty awesome. There's a lot of expectation, he's had a lot of time to work on it, and he knows he's got to pack a solid punch in.

You won't find it. If he's gotta go negative in early August, I can't imagine we'll be seeing any issues-based, pro-McCain ads from here on out.

Have any journalists asked McCain himself about his pledge to run a respectful, issues-based campaign and why he has reneged on his pledge?

Devil you know, blahblahblah. Just my guess. They're really building the anti-Obama campaign on the fact that he's "unknown" - shadowy, scary, not like us, that sort of thing.

Anyone want to sign a petition to bring back dueling?

It would be really nice to hear what McCain is going to do, instead of looking into his crystal ball to what his opponent is going to do.

Perhaps he should look into it to see what Bin Laden is going to do, and beat him to the punch. And see where the markets are heading, so we can ride the crest. And on top of it, maybe he should use a little of that prognosticatory power to predict what the Olympics hold, and get some of those non-elitist millions he's got squirreled away onto a booky's floor and donate the funds from his bets to get us out of the debt that we're digging ourselves deeper into. And perhaps even find all the oil in the ANWAR and the Gulf, so the oil companies don't have to do any preliminary drilling, so we can shave a few years off the drilling.

Talking about your opponent instead of your own plans is weak. And weak is not something a man of his years needs to project right now...

Taking in John McCain's performances is a little like waiting eight years for the new Godfather movie, only to realize that it features Sofia Coppola and Andy Garcia.

McCain would suck cock to have half the popularity of Obama.

Lets take a little look at some of the more vivid words used by the jounalist to describe each candidates' actions:

"John McCain is mocking...."
"McCain sneers...."
"McCain snarks...."
"McCain's gibe...."

"Obama delivers..."
"Obama.... declares..."

Nice.

Hmm, wonder why that is.

Obama "delivers" a radio address - that's the generally accepted verb for giving a radio address. He "declares" policy positions.

McCain isn't "delivering" or "declaring" anything. He's sniping and sneering. If Obama were dedicating his time to attacking McCain, you'd bet he'd be "mocking," "sneering," and "snarking," too. This story got its verbs right, IMO.

This.

It would be a great line coming from just about anyone other than the guy whose speeches consist of non sequitur mumbling and being kept awake by Joe Lieberman.

Is your point that McCain hasn't been mocking, sneering, snarking, and gibing (?) for the past three weeks? I think even McCain would argue with you about that. He's rather openly embrassed being a cock sucking asshole and expressed pride in this direction of his campaign.

John McCain should have "pulled an Al Gore" by not exposing himself out there in the presidential dog pit...

He would have been remembered as that maverick year 2000 McCain that was well liked by liberals and conservatives alike, and not the 2008 McCain that is emmbarrisingly attempting to be both Bush's 3rd term, while acting like he's not going to be.
