Yes, she is, and she deserves much better than how her husband has treated her.

I met her in March of this year. She's as classy in this statement as she is in person. If I had a hat, I'd tip it to Elizabeth Edwards.

Some jerkass was putzing in the left lane so I couldn't get over and go into the shopping center to hit the liquor store and buy bourbon, and I'll be damned if I'm going to take the time to go around the block into the back shopping center entrance, so it's wine for me. Also, Edwards is a scumbag but I take the default position that political wives probably aren't much better than their more public husbands, no matter how carefully they craft the image they project.

\Well, if I came home and Scarlett Johanson and Monica Bellucci were on my bed going at it and asked me to join in

First of all, that's a justifiable case for road rage if I've ever come across one. Second, yeah, I agree with you about politicians' wives, but I'm not judging her. She's been through enough.

My wife and I call these "givens". If Hugh Jackman shows up and gets naked for her, then I'm not going to say anything. If "The Super Nanny" shows up and gets naked for me (I have a thing for the "naughty chair"), then she won't say anything.

Ooo Ooo! My ex-husband and I had these. Mine was Kevin Bacon and his was Taylor Dayne. (Yes, that dates us, we are old.)

Then one day Kevin Bacon came to town with his brother, doing that band thing they do, Bacon Brothers. I was writing for a music magazine and got to interview them. Wooooo! That was my free pass. Shockingly, I came home without Kevin that day. Sniff.

A few months later, Taylor Dayne did a concert in San Antonio (1.5 hours from Austin, for the non-Texans). I rigged it so my then-husband could do the interview, and he asked me to do the photography, which I did.

He's much better looking than I, but when he'd ask a question, she'd look at me and answer, totally ignoring his presence.

Turns out she was a lesbian. And apparently, didn't like men much that day, either.

Yeah. But nailing some marginally attractive chick? That's just a douchebag maneuver. Even if I'm falling-over drunk and some whore is throwing herself at me, I think I'd have the presence of mind not to fark her. If only to avoid getting horrible diseases that would make my dick fall off.

Meh, attraction is subjective. I think it's more of a douchebag move to determine a person's desirability based merely on physicalities. I went down that road in my 20's and learned quickly to chose substance over packaging. The super nanny does it for me, Mischa Barton doesn't. Doesn't make me a douchebag for appreciating non-physical qualities (intelligence, self-assuredness, command presence, accent, etc) I would think quite the opposite, such as determining a womans attractive qualities must be limited to the physical as being the height of douchebaggery. Different strokes for different folks.

Well, in my defense, I'm sure the "serious" ontopic discussion is taking place in the several stories about the same goddamned thing that have already been greenlit. Really, how many different articles about the same goddamned thing need to be on the frontpage? In further defense, this discussion is pretty heavy on the whole "adultery" angle.

"I am proud of the courage John showed by his honesty in the face of shame."

Was that the courage he showed running away from the Enquirer? Or the courage he showed running for President knowing that if he got the nomination and this came out during the general his party would be toast.

I know she's trying to be supportive and all, but telling the truth after you're caught is not courageous. Just the opposite, actually.

I would admit that I liked Elizabeth Edwards. That was before learning that she knew of her husband's cheating and kept her mouth shut so he might continue his political duplicity and lies. This while he disparaged those who knew the truth and forced his staff to go out and lie about his accusers. Sorry, but my respect for her is gone notwithstanding my sympathy for her serious illness and personal tribulations.

You're right, of course. It would have better for her to hold a press conference and tell the whole world of her husband's jackass ways...what a fkn biatch!!

John McCain's first wife, the many women he had affairs with, and the current wife he was seeing while still married to his first should do the same, or you will be equally critical of them, right?

Thought so!!

I'm at least glad that he didn't cheat on her while she was diagnosed with cancer. 'Course, the right-wing history books won't see it that way, chastising him for "cheating on his wife while she was diagnosed with cancer," while forgetting that John McCain did something similar in the late 1970's.

What's she going to do, call a press conference and tell them "My husband is a lying cheating SOB who farks crazy women?"
This is between them.

That said though, he had no business running for President. He'd shot himself in the foot already. If he hadn't run for President, he wouldn't have come to the attention of the scandal hounds and might have been later, quietly, eligible for AG or some other high post.
As it is, however...

Yeah I was hovering on the '(add) This user isn't on your ignore list' link too, when I decided that I was getting a little too hair-trigger putting people on perma-mute. Glad I hesitated because, well,

^THIS.
It's not (just) the affair. It's that both JE and EE covered it up and carried on into a Presidential campaign knowing - if had won the nomination or the VP nod - it would have utterly destroyed the Democrats' chances in '08 if it got out. As one commenter pointed out:

I WON'T forgive...either John or you, Elizabeth.. (82+ / 12-)

NO, I won't forgive either of you, for so self-centeredly risking our Democratic chances in '08.

The very fact that you, Elizabeth, say:

This was our private matter, and I frankly wanted it to be private because as painful as it was I did not want to have to play it out on a public stage as well.

is unbelievable! What kind of a bubble are you living in! What a self-centered statement! You strove for our highest public office, with the power and prestige of the US on the line, not to mention the Democratic Party. Shame on you!

What made you think that if John was nominated that this would not have surfaced? Did you not realize that this would not have left you both open to endless blackmailing? You don't think that the Press, not to mention the Republicans, would have found this out! What were you thinking? Shame on you!

No, your post is just another continuation of denial and enabling of John's lying; both of you were complicit on laying a complete misrepresentation on his supporters, who laid out real, hard-earned money to support JRE. You want us to feel sorry for you and yet you placed your goals over the good of the country, party and your supporters! Your's was not a viable campaign and you told us that it was. Shame on you!

You both asked us to support a campaign that you should have known was going to explode! And now this announcement is going to distract the campaigning for our Democratic nominee! Shame on you!

I hold you BOTH responsible for unforgiveable narcissitic behavior. I think that your post should have been asking forgiveness, not a self-pitying claim, complaining how hard it is to be the attention of media coverage of something that both you and your husband brought on yourselves. Shame on You!

Your further state:

I ask that the public, who expressed concern about the harm John's conduct has done to us, think also about the real harm that the present voyeurism does and give me and my family the privacy we need at this time.

Yes, its all about you both, isn't it? What about his supporters who were lied to? What about the money we could not afford, that we gave to a Titanic candidacy? What about the prospective damage to the Democratic Party? What about the prospective damage to the US? Does any of that matter? Shame on you!

I think it does.

You need to apologize, not just come on this site and seek excuse for both of your lies.

Shame, shame on both of you!
