If one were to architect such a conspiracy, why would one use his sister's birth certificate at all? Why not find an old blank or use one from a long-dead "John Doe" or just make a new one from scratch?

Since in Hawaii, copies of birth certificates are only available to individuals and their families--maybe trying to find a vintage blank one (or one of a dead person) would be considerably more difficult that simply using a copy of one you already own...

I'm guessing you don't have a passport? Mine notes "Birthplace - New Haven, Connecticut, USA". Do you think it possible/likely that Obama's passport notes a birthplace other than Hawaii and that this detail has somehow escaped everyone's notice?
