Aren't people who drink bottled water supposed to be "bad" now? Isn't her supposed to be anti-everything? Or pro-everything. Whichever way that is.

Oh well, at least he doesn't fly around to France or Italy, probably on a private jet. That would really be bad for the environment.

Oh yeah. Just because someone looks like Castro means they want to spread Communism. Not very likely. Plus he owns a hotel. Dubble Dumass on you.

True story:
I was friends with this girl and she wanted to introduce me to her new boyfriend. I met him and she asked what I thought and I said he looks like Robin Williams. She scoffed and said he looks like Bono. I said, maybe if he put on sunglasses. I had no idea the 2 were seperated at birth.

Fark Paul Hewson. I say this every time I notice a Bono post. He told Dave Stewart the Beatles are the only band better than U2, and he made noises like it was a temporary state of affairs.

So, fark a lot of Paul Hewson, and his more pretentious than thou bullshiate.

mofomisfit: I watched Across The Universe last night. Not a great movie, and Bono is definitely one of the worse parts of it.

Yeahhh... I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you there. There were so many things wrong with that movie, the Bono musical number was one of the few bits I enjoyed.

Things that were wrong:
Prudence, a complete throw away character who was introduced as a major character and then vanished for most of the movie. And while her performance of "I wanna hold your hand" was nice, it just dragged on and on with pretty dull dancing and crap.

The fact that most of the performances just reminded me of how much liked the Beatles better than this crap ("Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite" had wonderful visuals but sounding freaking awful).

Doing race-rights to the background of "Helter Skelter" was tacky in the extreme. Why not just go and give Charles Manson a writing credit for the movie?

That, and the near-total lack of any coherent story, despite being long enough to do several.

Sucked. Bono's bit was the best part of a mediocre film.

OK, I've totally missed some new Fark "meme" where you come into a thread with some totally off the wall comments about someones girlfriend/boyfriend, etc. This is like the third thread I've seen with it. So, what is the story here?

See I agree that all those things suck, but I think Bono's performance really sucked. It seemed like for much of the rest of the movie you'd have "story" and then a song would kind of pop up in a much more natural way. But for Bono it was like "Hey here's this rock star and his band to play a song! Yay!" I also think the Mr. Kite sequence was like that "Yay, here's Eddie Izzard to act all crazy!" And Bono's accent? Why? Was it like, necessary to have this guy be from California? And sound like he was from a cartoon set in Texas?

But I don't think it's the worst part of the movie, at all. That dubious honor goes, IMO, to carrying the Statue of Liberty over Southeast Asia singing "She's So Heavy." That was some of the most heavy handed garbage I've seen in a while.

mofomisfit 2008-08-08 09:34:36 AM
Oh and also, Bono's part made me feel like "Why don't I just go watch Magical Mystery Tour instead of this crap?"

Fair enough. I was so utterly disappointed with the film that I found Bono's scene to be a refreshing change of pace. But either way. Likewise, I'm gonna have to disagree about "I Want You". It was tacky, and overdone, but at least the song looked like they had some freaking clue of where they were going with it. The rest of the movie was utterly aimless, so getting their shiat together long enough to put together something with a coherent theme - even an infantile and over-the-top performance of a fourth-rate B-side song - was nice. Not good, but a break from the aimless meandering after the movie had long-since jumped the shark.

See, that was how I felt through the whole movie. It reminded me of how good the Beatles were, simply because, by contrast, this all sucked so very, very badly. Hearing a half-assed performance of "Mr. Kite" just made want to go to the record's store and buy Sgt. Pepper's so I could hear the real version again.

Fair enough. I can certainly agree the movie was an aimless disappointment.

I thought Bono always wore the sunglasses because of some kind of eye condition. Hypersensitivity to light or something. Maybe he got surgery?

Kinda... he definitely looks like Castro and Williams' love child.

Yukon Cornelius 2008-08-08 10:11:04 AM
Say what you will, but Bono's got the whole celebrity thing figured out. With the sunglasses on, he's Bono, one of the most famous musicians in the world. Take them off, and he's just some dude named Paul.

If he wanted to, he could go just about anywhere in the world without his signature sunglasses and not have to worry about being recognized, except by the odd Daily Mail photographer.
