judging from mccain's ad, obama will just part the waters like moses anyways.

Why rain? Why not frogs, locusts, fire or the death of everyone's First Born?

You just *know* they're trying to figure out how to work Cleavon Little into an ad.

Dear God,

You know we love you, and we really hate this other guy. We didn't ask for you to kill him, just ruin his day, so it's totally Christian of us.

Kthnx,

i pray for rain to come
and wash away what's made me numb
i pray for a ragging storm
to drown what's in me
and the rain comes in the nick of time
i swallow hard cause my throat's been dry
the rain comes beating on my skin
till I'm washed away - nothing left within
when the rain comes
Your rain comes

/props to those who know who that was.

Would it be wrong to ask Thor to shoot a lightening bolt up your ass? Oh, not a lightening bolt that would hurt the good and decent Christian people of Denver, but a a white-hot bolt of infinite intensity straight up your anus to boil the contents of your colon...? Would that be wrong?

Right now? Threatening to break up the Episcopalian church with an American schism, and pretty good sized movement for lay led Congregations in a lot of Catholic dioceses...

JJ Money 2008-08-08 12:30:49 AM
FOTF and Dobson are almost indescribably stupid. Some of the most asinine things I have ever read came from Dobson. The sad part is that my mother eats it up because it has a veneer of christianity overtop of the moral and other bigotry.

OK enough flood posting, but this video got me thinking. With guys like him, Fred Phelps, Ann Coulter...why on earth do so many people seem to care what these trolls think? Is their ability to form sentences and express bigoted views that compelling?

Yeah, but I don't see large scale denial of these people. You know what I think of when I think of religion? These people. I have no respect for religion because of these people, because they are how I see religion; a bunch of self-righteous hypocrites.

Bloody William 2008-08-08 12:42:26 AM
One of the worst things about FotF and Dobson is that... Dobson isn't a religious leader of any sort. He's not a priest, not a minister, not a preacher, not a theologian of any stripe. He's just a giant moralizing asshole.

Even douchebibles like Pat Robertson and (formerly) Jerry Falwell were at least religious leaders of some sort. Dobson is just some horrible little fark who wants to legally codify his religion. I mean, they're/were all hideous shiats, but at least Robetson and Falwell had the excuse of actually being preachers.

Because these trolls have a disproportionate and extremely unsettling influence on public policy. If they were all talk and no action we could just ignore them, but they're the assholes who want (Christian) prayer in schools, gay marriage (and all gay rights) to be illegal, abortion to be illegal, and to basically legally force their religious beliefs upon everybody in the country.

But what in their schtick appeals to people? Are the various forms of xenophobia and intolerance still that deep in the public mind that they are drawn to the gibberish that these trolls spout? I guess they must represent figureheads for a great deal of irrational, dark thoughts. The idea that that jackass would go on a rant getting people to pray for rain at Obama's speech because of some connection to their "FAMILY!" obsession is so absurd. In this day and age often I forget people like him exist, but then every once in a while, bang, there they are again with their intolerance and impossible moral bigotry.

sloppy shoes 2008-08-08 01:00:12 AM
The problem is that people aren't either capable of thinking analytically or aren't taught and expected to. When not much is required of most of society, they really default to the lowest common denominator or what is easiest for them. It's easy to be racist. It's easy to be xenophobic. You can see Kwame Kilpatrick and think "screw black people." You can live in the Southwest and think "I hate mexicans and native americans." I would argue that even the hardest core liberal has had that thought at one point in their life, even if while they were a kid. But it takes thought to expand beyond that and think through that.

But we don't teach that in schools. We don't challenge kids, or for that matter, adults.

YES, IT WOULD BE VERY VERY WRONG TO PRAY FOR SOMEONE ELSE'S FREE SPEECH AND OPINION TO BE SILENCED. AND YOU ARE A PETTY, MORALLY ENFEEBLED MAN TO ASK YOUR GOD TO DO SOMETHING SO SMALL AND PETTY.

/I'm just praying for Senator McCain to find his pancakes...

About as much as one group of freely-acting people can do to influence any other such group through the free and unfettered exchange of ideas. Check out the debates between different Christian wings and factions sometime. Its quite extensive.

Neurochemist 2008-08-08 01:06:49 AM
I think rain could do more to help his speech. He will get more news coverage delivering a home-run in a rainstorm while the crowd is going crazy.. Trust me.. over coming a rain storm and delivering a knockout = much more memorable..

JJ Money 2008-08-08 01:08:12 AM
sloppy shoes: But it takes thought to expand beyond that and think through that.

Not very much though! I mean, I live in an area where there are lots of Natives. A great deal of them are bums and their homes are a wasteland of decaying shacks. I occasionally wonder why so many of them are such appalling bums, but I don't lump them all together. I work with some super solid people who are Native, they just have taken more constructive paths and used their opportunities well. I also work with many immigrants, and some of them are totally spaced out and in many cases don't know the language. Personally I believe all people are equal, children of God, yada yada, but I suppose it's easy to be conscious of the lowest common denominator and miss out on the more important fact that everyone has free will.

If you're going to waste your time praying for rain, at least pray for it to hit somewhere where starving and dehydrated people desparately need it. That's probably what Jesus would do, unless he's a selfish c*nt like the guy in the article.

Dear FSM,

I'm not a praying guy, as evidenced by the fact that I'm typing a prayer on Fark to the Flying Spaghetti Monster. However, as these douchenozzles in Colorado are praying to harm the good spirits of others, I wouldn't object if a few of their more "vocal" members came down with a painful case of the ass cancer. Not that I want it to happen -- I'm just sayin'...maybe see what you can do.

Thanks, brah.

rAmen.

would it be so wrong if i asked people to line up outside of the focus on the family headquarters and squeeze out a couple nuggets on the sidewalk? maybe even in the concourse? maybe even smear it down the big ol' slide that extends from the building?

i'm not talking diarrhea that will flood the building, I'm just talking about some brown stinknuggets that line the perimeter of one of the most assward-backed corporations in america. just enough so that no one walked on the sidewalk to give them any more support.

would it be so wrong to ask for poop?

I like it, and I would be interested in subscribing to your newsletter. Let us pray -- pray for them to succumb to the kind of explosive diarrhea that can only be imagined in the minds of 7 and 8-year-old boys with a "fecal = funny" complex. We should ask all to pray for poop.
