I saw this the other day on Al Jazeera... mainstream US press completely ignored this bit.

Deported? What, Subby?

He wasn't deported to Mexico, he chooses to live there part-time. For pete's sake, he was born in Minnesota. The US doesn't deport natural born citizens to Mexico. He was just in New York City a couple weeks ago doing a round of talk shows.

Certainly can't hurt anything. I like his idea of making "none of the above" the majority vote, though. It'll never happen, but it's nice to fantasize sometimes...

I guess it's crazy to think that the Democrats and Republicans have shredded the Constitution and increased the power of government at the expense of the rights of the People.

Yes, because the entrenched politicians in either party would really let a guy like him do anything at all. He wouldn't sell out, and they'd bury him quickly.

You're saying to get involved with (one of) the existing parties, yes?

The powers that be would bury a guy like that quickly in Congress or as POTUS. The only chance he ever had in politics were governor and mayoral positions, where party lines and political alignments aren't as well defined.

Ordell [TotalFark] 2008-08-07 07:58:52 PM
Jesse's tenure as governor was marked as EPIC FAIL because the guy didn't know how to play nice with anyone. He had no capacity for compromise, of meeting mid-way. By the time his four years were up, Minnesotans were saying 'good riddance.'

Ventura is like a razor-sharp knife wrapped in a wet carpet. You can make out impressions of coherent thought but he layers the catchphrases and the ego on so thick that it's a discredit to libertarianism in the end.

Well I ain't talking about Ventura so much. My point is that biatching about institutions that you're not involved in is stupid. The best way to change anything is to be on the inside. Own the party -- by taking responsibility for it.

But then, that is much harder than biatching from the outside about how terrible it is.

Being *independent* is not a ticket to good governance -- these are all just words.

Power structures are good or corrupt by those that choose to own them.

Call it Independent Utopianism if you will. All systems that govern are inherently complex -- with complexity comes conflict -- with conflict comes messiness.

As I said, Jesse is a real populist. He really believes that 'common sense' solves problems -- which is awesome until you realize that you have to share and get along with other people that think you're and idiot.

Venture had problems with that himself when governor.

'the powers' is fancy talk for "this is really hard farking work"

How to restore democracy in 4 simple steps:

Step 1: Throw the lobbyists out of Washington and the state capitols
Step 2: Institute 100% public financing of elections
Step 3: Introduce instant runoff voting
Step 4: Make Voting Day a public holiday and register people to vote automatically when they turn 18

I liked Zeitgeist better when it was called The International Jew or The Protocols of the Elders of Zion.

It's pure crack pottery.

It is fun like the X-Files tho. Very well made.

Ahh Democracy is about us being able to choose isn't it?

Maybe when I turned 18, I didn't want to be registered to vote?

Driving Without Pants 2008-08-07 10:09:53 PM
Addor

Why would you not want to be registered to vote?

I suppose you could make it an opt-out sort of thing, but the point I'm making is that a healthy democracy doesn't make it difficult for people who want to be registered to be registered. It should happen automatically to ensure everyone who wants to vote gets to vote. No one misses a vote because they're not registered, and no one gets their names purged from the rolls because their registration application was on the wrong kind of card stock.

1. Lobbyists are not just bad. Think of every major organization, both good and bad, for the people and against, etc etc. They ALL have lobbyists. They all HIRE lobbyists. Including the ones that are actively pushing for some of your own ideas and wants and desires.

2. Public financing is a grand idea, until the details pop up.

3. Run off voting doesn't matter much if there's only two primary candidates. Although there's no provision for, or against, just two candidates that I'm aware of.

4. Voting day can, and should, be a holiday. Nothing wrong with that, although it may just turn into a 'loafing' day where as many people vote then as they do now. Apathy really doesn't need another 8 hours to burn.

Let me clear something up a bit about the word democracy force-fed to you by the mass media.

America was never a democracy. If America was a democracy, we wouldn't be here today since the average lifespan of a democracy is 200 years.

It's supposed to be a constitutional Republic. You'll never find the word 'democracy' in any of the Founding Fathers' writings.

DarnoKonrad: No Jesse you dumb fark. You don't destroy the parties. You get involved with the parties.

No, you worthless nebbish. Both parties deserve to be utterly annihilated for the ruin that they have wrought. Both parties should be abolished, their assets seized, the entire houses of their leadership and all their descendants should be declared anathema, banished forever and relegated as the lowest untouchable caste on the planet, forever forced to beg for change and shovel shiat until they thankfully rid the world of their scum by taking their own lives. I would not piss on a single one of them if they were on fire.

Back in the old days, when your ineptitude and stupidity brought ruin to the Republic, people had the concept of honour and responsibility and they would fall upon their own swords.
Since not one of these rancid little parasites, who went into politics because they were utterly useless in everything at life except for mooching and bullshiatting, has any concept of honour, integrity or responsibility, they'll pat themselves on the back and give themselves a pay raise and more perks for doing a "heckovajahb".

People like Grand Kickback Whore Pelosi, Wheezing Pantywaist Reid, and K-Street Tart Clinton, as well as the whole lot of the Sister-buggering, livestock-molesting inbred retards from Jesusville Dumbfarkistan with "R" next to their name should do well to remember that Government is a substitute for violence. The people have four boxes from which to voice their opinions: The Jury Box, the Ballot Box, the Soap Box and the Bullet Box. They have stupidly denied the People the first three. If they don't listen and fix their epic clusterfark, they'll fall victim to the last one.

The only thing worse was Hulk Hogan's horseshiat interview the following day. That moron actually discussed how much he learned from reading "The Secret".

So I was just reading some of the Chomsky book Necessary Illusions, and in the first chapter he talks a little about the Trilateral Commission, one of those things like the Bilderberg Group or the North American Union that tinfoil hat-wearing truthers and Rondroids are always babbling about.

I was just thinking the other day how stupid it is that both they and anti-authoritarians/anarchists are opposed to the NAFTA Superhighway, too, albeit for totally different reasons: Them, because it erodes 'sovereignty' and supposedly treats brown-skinned people as equals; us, because it helps multinational corporations destroy the livelihoods of Mexicans and eliminate the gains Unions won here.
They're fundamentally nationalist; we're fundamentally anti-nationalist.

We want the elimination of the State because it aids Capital; they, because it impedes it.

I just wish they'd put their money where their mouths are and support the direct action against I-69 (the NAFTA Superhighway) in Indiana, just so our we can finally have it out.
"We agree with everything you say, but disagree with your reasons for saying them! Let's make out while fighting to the death!
