Does a repeat count as 2/3 of trifecta?

lewismarktwo 2008-08-06 05:06:34 AM
No, but it counts as 1/3 of a trifecta of the same repeat.

Call me a sick bastard, but imagine if some of the aircraft involved in crashes had this footage available to the passengers just before they bought the farm. The 9/11 stuff alone would be unbelievable.

The DC-10 that crashed in Chicago had a B & W in-cabin one that showed the cockpit so they would have seen the shiat hit the fan, but exterior and color? Damn.

/one please, as long as I have a tail cam view

orindlt 2008-08-06 05:30:29 AM
The Thai 777s have the nose cam view "superman" view that you can pull up on the headrest display, but I thought that this was more commonplace (not the tail view, the superman view from the front) Makes landing a lot more fun.

RoyBatty 2008-08-06 05:59:18 AM
Yay! Our airplane took off on a severe clear day! Let's clap!

RoyBatty 2008-08-06 06:01:26 AM
Would be fun to put the tailcam into "Terror at 20,000 feet" mode, where gremlims are shooped onto the wing.

First commercial flight of the largest airliner ever built. Whoop-de-farkin-doo. You're much too cool to think that's significant. I stand in awe of your hoopiness, you frood.

Other 777s have this also - such as Cathay Pacific. BTW, aren't you meant to turn off all electronic devices when landing and taking off. Assholes like this always sit near me.

I've been on plenty of domestic 737 flights where morans do the same thing -- sometimes after the plane lands. They're probably the same folks that clap for a random movie in a theater.

I'd like to have a bunch of people at my place of work applaud me for doing my job too.

pintoboy 2008-08-06 07:38:27 AM
Fly Northwest some time. You will clap too, although it is less of a "Pilot did a good job" thing and more of a "sweet Jesus am I alive, we made it!"

I don't think it was the first commercial flight, it may have been one of the first flights out of SFO.

But if you want to touch my towel, I want you to know I've been using it as a loin cloth.... :)

udeng01 2008-08-06 07:47:07 AM
That was a video camera recording of a seat-back display, right? I thought you were supposed to turn off portable electronic devices during take-off and landings?

PedanticSimpleton 2008-08-06 08:05:00 AM
Tail cam + stewardesses in un-revealing attire = CAN'T SEE SH*T CAPTAIN.

CBQ 2008-08-06 08:08:39 AM
This aircraft is amazingly quiet. Is it the video quality, or are they really that quiet?

That annoys me, too. Had one asshole who sat a couple rows in front me stay on his phone after being 4 times by the flight attendant to hang up. He was on a "vitally important" sales call - which everyone around him knew since he talked so loudly. They had to finally get one of the flight crew to tell him to hang up or leave the plane (which, sadly, was not in flight yet).

Um, aren't passengers supposed to shut off all electronic devices during takeoff and landing? Nice job running that RF-noisy video camera at your seat, dillweed.

Yeah, but it was made by the French.

Ironman273 2008-08-06 09:47:43 AM
That's total BS. They were just playing Flight Simulator. The clapping was because he got a high score.

I'd love to see the tailcam for a landing like this. (new window)

Bet they applauded on that flight, too.

Mods will greenlight anything with a plane in it.

yesanded 2008-08-06 10:17:51 AM
"an" A380.

AMonkey'sUncle 2008-08-06 10:19:42 AM
More like a touch-and-go than an actual landing.

I've noticed Euros tend to applaud on landing.

Wow. that was crazy. Props to the pilot for keeping it straight going into that landing, and he almost made a solid landing, cut in just as the wheels were about to touch.. then a massive gust veered the plane. He did everything he could to keep the aircraft stable before scrubbing the pass.

madcan34 2008-08-06 11:01:21 AM
Why is this supposed to be something amazing?

"We've attached a camera on the tail of an airplane, let's see what happens."

So freakin' what?

organs in mains 2008-08-06 11:14:04 AM
I just came here to say that they shouldn't be using electronic equipment when taking off or landing.

I don't think anyone else has said that yet.

TonnageVT [TotalFark] 2008-08-06 11:34:10 AM
Does that come standard in Economy also? Or is that just another perk for business class that I keep hearing about in the A380?

Does anyone know any perk for Economy class???? Are there any????

mferris 2008-08-06 11:56:12 AM

Yeah. You get to choose between pretzels or peanuts.

You get a choice? You must fly better airlines than I do.

LeroyB 2008-08-06 12:23:08 PM
Why are they applauding on takeoff?

At the end of the video it say "Emerates A380" and as I recall Emerates recently took delivery of an A380, so this was probably the first commercial flight of an A380 for Emerates.

// just my guess.
/// I don't applaud on takeoffs or landings.
//// I hate those people who hop out of their seats and start grabbing their bags from the overhead bins as soon as the wheels touch ground and we're still rolling down the runway coming to a stop.
// ...and what about those people who have five or six HUGE carry-on bags that they insist will fit in the overhead bins? Do they have something against checked-baggage?
// but don't get me started on those people who use lots of slashies.....

I think people who clap on takeoffs/landings are complete morans. I also think people who clap at the end of a movie are complete morans. Yet, I have no problem clapping at a sports bar when my favorite team does something awesome.

/moran?

Yes, moran. But I've been known to do that too once a few beers my system, therefore I can buy drunkenness in a sports bar as an excuse. I doesn't make me any less of a moran though.

that's some cool video. took a 777 from LA to Chicago a few weeks ago, nice fast ride. never done overseas flights but I wouldn't mind being in that plane for 10 hours, even if it was economy.

What is moving to the left and the right so much? Cam, tail, or both? Take the wings as a reference.
