Wal-Mart?

Really?

The store that censors virtually every movie, book and music album for profanity and sexual content?

Really?

Did the entire band have a malignant brain tumor for breakfast this morning?

You have to admit that the band has successfully identified their ideal target audience.

"Dirty deeds done dirt cheap"

Pretty much describes both parties here...

You guys are missing the point. Fark the record companies, they've cut a deal that bypasses the record companies (though I'm sure they'll set it online).

I approve of this move (though AC/DC hasn't had a decent album in nearly 20 years).

Torc 2008-08-05 11:00:38 PM
I guess the answer to "Who Made Who" was 'China'.

What do they need a record company for? They're filthy rich, not unknown, and pretty much market themselves. They've signed a distribution deal with WalMart... it's not a terrible move. There are stores everywhere and everyone goes to WalMart. Even if they say they don't.

Bovine the Terrible 2008-08-05 11:02:49 PM
My first concert, back in 1985: AC/DC and a Japanese metal band called Loudness. My grandmother had bought me the "Dirty Deeds" album when I was about twelve, which my parents then promptly confiscated, and which I then stole from the top of their closet, leaving the sleeve so they wouldn't know that I took it back.

/Good times.
//Kinda sucks about the Wal-Mart thing, but slayer199 is pretty much right on this one. They haven't done anything decent in years anyway.

I don't shop at WalMart. I also don't buy AC/DC albums. Why am I even commenting on this thread?

What % of AC/DC songs meet wal-marts standards?

CarnySaur 2008-08-06 07:07:02 AM
The Eagles did the same thing with their last album, were lambasted for it, and subsequently raked in piles and piles of money. AC/DC probably decided it was worth being criticized.

Actually, my first thought when I heard about the exclusive to Wal-Mart thing was, "Well, it still won't be as bad as the new Metallica album."

/Unforgiven III? Really?

It is good that this is sticking it to the recording industry, though.

CheddarPants [TotalFark] 2008-08-06 08:25:13 AM
Thing is, they're not bypassing, or sticking it to, the record industry. They're still on Sony. Wal-Mart just has exclusive distributorship for this record.

Glitchwerks 2008-08-06 08:30:56 AM
Does Wal-Mart even stock rock n roll anymore? Seriously, the ones near me have huge sections for Latin music, but a very small section for everything else. "Everything else" usually amounts to a bunch of Soulja Boy and Justin Timberlake.

This.

Their music has always come out through the uh..largess of giant corporations. Now they've just been succesfully bribed into helping one of them more than others. So uh, goood job guys!

1. This story broke months ago. 2. Music is a business and if this gets AC/DC into the hands of more kids, then great.

kobrakai 2008-08-06 09:23:02 AM
I like how AC/DC won't let their music be sold on iTunes while they try to come up with some better form of distribution that grants them more control. Guess what guys? While you sat on your thumbs, everyone who wanted your stuff just got it from PirateBay.

Stupid, yes. Ironic, no. At least, as far as I know, they didn't do a song 30 years ago titled "F*** Wal-Mart and Other MNCs."

Looks like I'll be exclusively downloading this on Demonoid.

Rockdrummer 2008-08-06 12:53:26 PM
Tard writer jumps on the "Wal-Mart is evil" bandwagon, second only to Bush Derangement Syndrome. Worker's Rights investigations? That's read "fraudulent complaints by unions because Wal-Mart doesn't cave to union thugs."

Wal-Mart is cheaper, and I will continue to buy stuff there. And on any given day you'll see Farkers low crawling through the aisles as well.

carmody 2008-08-06 01:12:31 PM
Nice troll, Rockdrummer...I give it a 7 out of 10 because of the "union thugs" reference. Next time, though, change "tard" to "libtard" for an extra half-point.

Wow! AC/DC must be spinning in their graves.

shiznatz 2008-08-06 03:19:18 PM
I read online (so you know it's true) WalMart offers the artists a greater royalty percentage because the distribution is already taken care of. Bands like AC/DC and The Eagles, who will sell thousands of cds no matter who is stocking it, can earn much more money this way than letting the record company try to stock it in every Best Buy, Circuit City, FYE, Hot Topic, and wherever else kids buy music today.

/Also, AC/DC still does not sell their music online.
//slashy, slashy

CyranoJones 2008-08-06 05:30:12 PM
Bon Scott just rolled over in his grave and vomited some more...
