There was no such thing as "emo" when Tears for Fears came on the scene.
If anything they were quasi new-wave, but more pop than that.
About half way between Thompson Twins and Dire Straits.

It only sounds emo because thats the slow Donnie Darko version of the song.

Admittedly, I can't watch YouTube at work, so I cannot WTFV here. But I'm having a really hard time imagining what would be even remotely "emo" about Alan Moore.

Should drop it down an elevator shaft.

I thought this shiat was deep as hell when I read it as a kid but the writing in the flashback to Rorschachs childhood makes me think that it wouldn't be as emotionally resonant today

/Outta my way retard

The time I spent watching this could have been better spent fapping to Carla Gugino and/or Malin Akerman.

Great times. Whatever happened to them?

You quit.

If I read that goddamn word "emo" again, I'm taking a farking hostage! It doesn't mean ANYTHING, and it's certainly not a farking adjective! Stop describing things as emo, you unoriginal retards! The minute you regurgitate these uber-hackneyed words and phrases, you reveal that you obviously don't know what the fark you are talking about. Especially when you describe Tears for Fears as emo.

Wow, I always thought that was R.E.M.

No not REM, he sings too clearly, plus he doesn't have quite the same tone as Michael Stipe.

I think he sounds like Sufjan Stevens, and I wondered once if it was the same guy.

Not an actual music vid but it makes the point

The Original

I prefer it only cause Donnie Darko scares the crap out of me (so the song kinda makes my skin crawl)every time I see it even though I've seen it a dozen times.

Gary Jules' album which that song comes from (Trading Snakeoil for Wolftickets) is genius. However, Mad World is just kind of tacked on the end and sounds nothing like the rest of the album.

/owns on CD

Renegade Pancake: Actually, there is another "hidden" song after Mad World on that CD... wait about a minute after Mad World ends and there is another great song.

I read somewhere that Roland Orzabal from TFF was both pleased and pissed about Gary Jules covering the song. Pleased that he did it well and pissed that he didn't think of slowing the song down before Jules did.

Takes me back to when I read Watchemn all the way though when I got the trade. I felt like i had been kicked in the gut. If the movie can do the same ( and i have my doubts. Zak better bring it )Then this will be one of the best films ever. If they V for Vedetta it ill be pissed.

Über-thisity this!!!1!11!1!

/Rorschach would have blown Gary Jules little whiny head off before the intro of the song was over.

This was considered emo in my HS in 2002, which my friends listened to, and myself to an extent.

Emo? (new window)

That version of Mad World is a pop song covered by a country-esque singer. Both versions are great.
