Okay thanks for the warning. Too bad this is Sunday and the liquor stores are all closed. Maybe, we will have time to stock up on all of the essentials before it gets too late. Already have plenty of beer since it was too hot to play beach volley ball this weekend. Let's see? Need water, Crown, Absolut, rum, some Genoa Salome, cheese, bread, gotta make a list.....

if you sit real still and listen, you can hear the price of gas increasing again...

Geez, it's just a tropical storm.

You get a Cat. 5 monster staring down your throat and you decide to ride it out. So the lesson you learn from that bad decision is to pee yourself every time a thunderstorm pops up?

Morans!

jamieartist 2008-08-03 08:08:36 PM
damn, this is the time where i hate working in an international job (freight forwarding) You think the Saudis care about local hurricanes and us closing up shop? Ha. They'll be the first to be whining about why their cargo of oil well supplies isn't on the boat/aircraft. Like last time.

/bosses sat on hands during Rita, was stuck in city as a result

Not forecast to become a hurricane. Do they still need to evacuate the platforms?

kuaq [TotalFark] 2008-08-03 08:11:23 PM
Nothing will possibly go wrong. No one will gouge prices and no one will panic.

/EVERYBODY DANCE NOW!

wxboy: Not forecast to become a hurricane. Do they still need to evacuate the platforms?

They are saying there is a good chance it could become a hurricane.

And that's all that is needed to get gas up 20 cents/gallon in the next 24 hours...

Houston's drainage is...not ftw. So yeah -- we piss ourselves over tropical storms.

not that you would've been able to get out if they hadn't

/we don't have too many options here in Victoria either

kaminariko

not that you would've been able to get out if they hadn't

too true. but there was always a chance that if i worked in some little local business they would have sent us home like a half day earlier. i had those darn saudi customers demanding wire transfers before we left! i guess they wanted to cash out just in case. lol.

the traffic on 45 was just...historic. luckily all i had to do was go in the opposite direction, to the woodlands, with oh, say, maybe about 5 other people northbound. very eerie feeling too.

i hope we learned something about contraflow evac plans.

/filled up tank today

During Allison my neighbors decided to leave town. They were gone 10 hours. They made it from Spring TX to the Woodlands. About a 10-12 mile round trip.

Surpheon 2008-08-03 08:36:10 PM
Sustained winds of 45mph with gusts higher? I've wandered out to get the mail in that kind of storm. Barely had to lean. And I was ten.

But I am glad I gassed up the cars for the month already.

Is the BBQ mark the Salt Lick?

Well, I'm in San Angelo. From the map, it looks like I could be getting some wind/rain around Wed. My lawn could use it.

We were in Hinesville, Ga to evacuate for Floyd. I went to a friends house in Atlanta. I think it's usually around 4 hours or so, took me 20.Did you know that if you idle a '92 Nissan Quest for 12 hours, you'll burn half a tank of gas???

Oil will jump at least $10.00 a barrel as a result.

The Salt Lick is a BBQ joint outside of Austin, near Wimberly, IIRC.

But where is the caek?

Brain_Damage 2008-08-03 09:13:18 PM
Pearland, Texas (just south of Houston) checking in. Bring it on Ed.

No, "we" don't. I lived in Houston for 25 years, and I can't ever recall my parents, grandparents, aunt & uncle, cousins, etc... ever getting the least bit worked up about tropical storms.

Nobody even boards the windows or tries to buy emergency supplies.

I know it sucks for the folks in South Texas, but I hope it turns North. We REALLY need the rain.

I'm going to skip reading the posts and point out that it's 8:00pm in Dallas and 101 f-ing degrees. And it's been like this for almost two weeks.

We're praying for a hurricane.

/parents live in Houston
//they're welcome to stay with me if it conjures up a hurricane and puts an end to this shiat.
///And for all you global warming nuts... last time it was this bad was in 1980. Almost 30 years ago.

theorellior 2008-08-03 09:17:50 PM
My parents live in Austin and they're hoping that *something* will blow the current high-pressure system away. It's been 100+ degrees for 40 days now, no rain, and my mom's really getting worried about brushfires. In the city.
