Ahhh. The usual gang of idiots, and I don't mean the MAD staff.
/but they're still a bunch of clods.

Somewhere on a storage drive I have electronic copies of every Mad Magazine up through some recent year. Some of the 60's and 70's stuff was pretty good - they lampooned the Beatles pretty well every once in a while, and I was surprised at how many political figures they skewered.

I own this one, in near mint condition.

When I bought a guy's collection, he forgot to give me this copy, so it survived the apartment fire.

I have no idea how much it's worth ;)

No one in 1956 could have predicted we really would elect Alfred E. Neuman at the beginning of the 21st century -- twice.

I remember one Alfred E. Neuman pic from back in 96 "Alfred E. Neuman for President. You could do worse, and probably already have".

You could do worse, and you always have.

That issue was a special edition that came inside a regular Mad Magazine. My mother wouldn't let me read them, so naturally, I read them every chance I got. I would steal them from my older brother and read them.

I had started buying MAD with issue 171, been buying it ever since. Some idiot at a junk shop had a box of old issues, I bought the whole box. Over a hundred and twenty pre #171 issues, with maybe two or three duplicates. Price had worked out to 8 cents each or so. Ten dollars for the whole box. This one was in there.

The one that came inside the regular Mad was a reprint. Mad's original format was the color cartoon version.

MAD needs to spoof the New Yorker cover of Barack Obama ASAP.

I happen to have the MAD CD-ROM with that issue in my drive. The issue looks pretty good, they take the piss out of Elvis and have a few strange "Alfred E. Neuman answers your questions" bits.

They also have the reverse of the front cover on the back. Take a look:

Does anyone have an explanation for the "What, Me Worry?" meme that they use with Alfred E. Newman? There has to be a story to it.

It, like the kid, predates MAD Magazine.
