Yup, Obama is clearly frightened to death of debating this incisive and skilled opponent.

I hope so, unless the network running the debate decides to ask some assinine "patriotism" questions in an effort to boost ratings.

"Senator Obama, let's say there was a muslim baby being held over an open flame, while at the same time there was a wounded serviceman walking through an airport on his way home. What would be your first thought if you saw this scene in an airport"

Obama - I'd help the baby

"Senator Obama, ARE YOU IMPLYING THAT YOU WOULD DISRESPECT OUR TROOPS IN AN EFFORT TO SAVE MUSLIMS DURING OUR TIME OF WAR? WHERE IS YOUR PATRIOTISM?"

I think that would be a great debate conversation.

CheddarPants [TotalFark] 2008-08-03 03:53:35 PM
The debates are going to be pure comedy gold. My only concern is that some people might try to portray Obama as a mean black guy picking on a poor, senile old man.

McCain needs free media BAD. He will lose any debate to Obama and knows it, but he automatically loses this election if he becomes irrelevant (as he has recently).

Anything for free media coverage is good for him.

GoRedSoxGo 2008-08-03 06:05:56 PM
Oh, Jesus Christ. And some people are able to say--with a straight face--that McCain is going to destroy Obama in the debates.

GoRedSoxGo 2008-08-03 06:10:09 PM
Don't worry McCain supporters, John will be crushed in the first debate and then you all can go back to playing the victim and talking about how nobody treated McCain fairly by allowing him to shiat the bed at the podium. It's where you're most comfortable anyways.

The First 2008-08-03 06:10:22 PM
Bill Frist: McCain needs free media BAD. He will lose any debate to Obama and knows it, but he automatically loses this election if he becomes irrelevant (as he has recently).

Then that is one stupid plan on his part. I mean, look at it this way, he debates, looses badly, he will personify himself as a ditz and further show he is senile.

I really think McCain is trying to loose the election. He knows the mess Bush created and knows he can't fix it, so why not loose the election?

The First: I really think McCain is trying to loose the election. He knows the mess Bush created and knows he can't fix it, so why not loose the election?

It almost makes sense. If they lose the election now, they can keep things relatively close and then try to regroup to come back with a vengeance in 2012 - partly by blaming Democrats for the problems that they were instrumental in creating. If they hold on now, they know that Republican approval numbers will just keep dipping, and by 2012, Democrats will win in a landslide. We're talking 70 Senate seats, 300+ House seats, 450+ EVs landslide, by the time it's all said and done.

I, err... uh.... well...

"Senator McCain, what color are your shoes?"

Uh, well... ahhhhhhhh....

"Senator McCain, are you prepared to lead our country through a failed war that your party started, requiring a nuanced approach to diplomacy and a razor-sharp knowledge of the tribes and other factions in Iraq, during a recession and the collapse of the housing market, with our military stretched to the breaking point, and with world opinion of the US at an extreme low and our strategic partnerships in tatters?"

PANCAKES!

hubiestubert [TotalFark] 2008-08-03 06:15:14 PM
Lionel Mandrake: Good God, that was painful.

More so, when you realize that this isn't an isolated occurrence.

Anyone can have a bad day. Anyone can get tongue tied on the fly--you call for a Q&A and you trip yourself up like this, there's a problem.

I just hope they get questions about the issues instead of: Do flagpins hate 'Murrica?

It's not about winning or losing the debate. It's about repeating your narrative, preferably in 3 to 5 second quips. Kerry beat Bush in every debate and that didn't cause him to lose. But his narrative was reinforced, "flip-flopper" "don't forget Poland!" That way they get played over and over again on the news. No plans will be thoroughly explained or debated. He can't really do that anyway because his plans are that things are great and I won't change a thing and those that aren't I will fix by doing nothing as well, other than being a well known bi-partisan. Obama has very little to win and a whole lot to lose in the debates (think Al Gore and the sighs.)

Pretty much. You set the stage, and invite your opponent into a crowd that's been stacked. Part of what Hillary tried--and stacked with her volunteers as well. Nothing new there...

McCain says (this month)...

McCain's campaign had said that Obama used race Wednesday when he said Republicans would try to scare voters by pointing out that Obama "doesn't look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills."

Everyone points out this on McCain's own YouTube account from last month, where he has already tried to scare voters by pointing out what Obama would look like on a changed hundred dollar bill (i.e: nothing like any of the previous portraits).

McCain needs to pick a registered nurse for his VP running mate, specifically someone with convalescent home experience and a knack for moving slowly and speaking quietly so as not to "startle" the POTUS. Every day, the White House will have gardening sessions after breakfast, followed by a quick 3 hour nap, then it's back to work on an arts 'n' crafts workshop, a performance by a local elementary school choir, and then lights out at 7pm sharp. The nuclear football will be fitted with a Wii remote.

Oh, certainly they'll lose a lot this year. But a McCain loss this year might stop or slow the GOP bleeding--that way in 2012 they can come back and blame Democrats for farking everything up--while if McCain wins this year, people will just watch the shiat REALLY hit the fan on the GOP watch. And then they're really screwed in 2012, maybe even for an entire generation.
