I've seen him in Portland, Maine back in 80 or so. He wasn't too bad but I was kind of disappointed to learn that he didn't do all of his own vocals. He definitely was a madman on stage.

I'm tempted to say something bad about him, but he might hunt me down and shoot me with a really big gun, so I'll pass.

I've seen the nuge live. Yes, he is farking batshiat insane, but that son of a biatch can play the guitar. And he often shoots flaming arrows into his equipment, so he's got that going for him too.

Saw him in Harrisburg, PA in '82....broken arm in a cast and he STILL smoked his guitar!

Really? I saw Keith Emerson stab his keyboard to death in concert. I'd rather see flaming arrows.

He probably also remembers a few that never happened, too. And that time he jammed out with Hendrix and Bach.

Well, duh...isn't it obvious?

Now what you gotta do, I'll tell you what you gotta do
You got to pretend your face is a Maserati
It's a Maserati
It's a Maserati
It's a gettin' hotty
It's a Maserati, Maserati, Maserati
It's a fast one too man, that thing's turbocharged
You feel like a little fuel injection honey?
I'll tell ya about it, I'll tell you about it
I'll check out the hood scoop
I gotta get that hood scoop off, shine and shine and buff
I gotta buff it up, buff it up, buff it up, buff it up, buff it up,
Yeah, shiny now baby, heh heh heh
You've been drivin' all night long
It's time to put the old Maserati away
So you look for a garage, you think you see a garage
Wait a minute, Hey!, there's one up ahead
And the damn thing's open
Hello! Get in there!

I have to say I spent some serious time with Ted and he is an awesome man. Honest, authentic, caring, uplifting. Great sense of silly humor too.

He helped me through a turbulent time in my life and I will always be grateful, almost 20 years now.

I bet some of you are wondering if we farked. Keep a-wonderin...

I saw him open for ZZ Top (who rocked) in 2003 at Star Lake (Picksberg, PA). Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Double Trouble played before the Nuge and also rocked.

My memory of the Nugent concert was that his vocals were incomprehensible during songs, with key words being understood here and there (i.e. "poontang" and "barbecue"). He wore a native American head-dress at some point while saying, "this here is an American guitar, no Jap guitar can reach a note this high." And then he shot a cardboard cutout of Saddam with a crossbow. It was pathetic.

I wonder if he remembers a gig in Akron, Ohio in the 70's where he fell off his amplifier, had his loin-cloth fly up, and was arrested for indecent exposure.

Mad Mark 2008-08-03 11:39:46 PM
Saw him at Arrowhead Stadium many moons ago. He later bragged about noise complaints from 17 miles away. He played our fair a few years ago also. He railed about everybody & everything in Missouri. I don't think the fair committee is gonna welcome him back soon.

Teddy was huge and the background music for my high school years. Love those first few albums, especially w/ Derek St Holmes on vocals. I'll still listen to them from time to time. It's funny that at the time, I had no idea he was so anti-drugs. I'm guessing neither did most of his audiences. And if they did, they sure didn't follow that line of thinking.

Funny that there is also a Meatloaf thread nearby this one. He sang lead vocals on about half the Free For All album. Pretty solid, and quite different from his solo work.

/Had Free For All on 8 track
//Lawn, etc..

My Nuge story:

Me, my girlfriend, and another friend get to the parking lot of the community college auditorium where we are going to see Ted. We are stoned silly and can't figure out where the entrance to the building is. I say "hey, let's ask those guys over there." I proceed to walk up to about 5-6 guys next to the building and ask how to get inside. One of them says that it is around on the other side of the building. When I get back to the car, my friend is freaking out, say "That's Ted Nugent....you just asked Ted frickin' Nugent how to get into the building!" I didn't realize it until I turned around and watched him go into the building with his crew. At least the ganga wore off enough for me to remember the show. Yes....the Nuge is a great guitar player, and Yes....he is farking LOUD!

darkjezter 2008-08-04 02:07:03 PM
I saw Ted live in concert back in 2000. He's loud, he's crazy, he's an incredible guitar player, and I'd go see him perform again in heartbeat.

degreeless 2008-08-04 02:29:52 PM
Front row Nugent twice in the last 5 years, and I'd do it again. I met the guy at a bow shop once. Yes he's crazy and over the top, but he's a helluva nice guy if you get the pleasure of meeting him.

Knowing something about guitars and hunting helps.

Oh, man, thanks for that. I had no idea there was a video.

That was the first non-pop album I ever bought. Had to ask the guy at the record store to order it for me and in 1967, it took several weeks for it to arrive. But to be honest I thought "Baby Please Don't Go" was the best cut.
