He lies all the time. and not good lies either but easy to catch lies. thing is the media won't report it. but let Obama even act like he's calling him out and they lower the boom on him.

I think I remember when McCain went to the hotel where MLK was shot and was heckled and yelled at by a crowd not long ago for his opposition where he changed his mind. Yep... I was right. Youtube video link (starts about 1:15 into the video).

Mugato [TotalFark] 2008-08-03 10:59:34 AM
b-b-b-but the liberal media! If McCain ever told a lie it would certainly be headline news.

Oh and CNN, when I think "Situation Room" I picture a bunch of generals talking about waking the President because of the latest Godzilla/asteroid/zombie attack, not a bunch of douchebag talking heads whacking each other off.

RedEyedWings 2008-08-03 11:01:37 AM
In the same way McCain is making a huge stink about challenging Obama to these town hall debates, Obama should challenge McCain to a real-time, policy-centric, fact-checked debate in which candidates are given Xs every time they make a statement that is found to be false by an independent panel of researchers.

McCain will have to refuse -- or accept and lose in a very humiliating fashion -- and then Obama can rake him over the coals for it, the same way McCain is trying to do now.

"Sen. McCain refused Barack Obama's challenge to engage in a debate in which candidate's answers would be checked for accuracy in orser to make sure they were telling the American people the truth. What does John McCain have against the truth, anyway? Why doesn't he want Americans to judge him on the acuracy of his words?"

There's nothing like having him saying in his own words on video that he didn't support the idea of MLK Day to refute this.

If he would just stop speaking so much, he will have an easy road to victory. It's been a long time sense I've seen a politician who is so unaware of how out of touch he is. The only way he will lose is if he keeps going on and on.

ambassador_ahab [TotalFark] 2008-08-03 11:18:11 AM
Can somebody please explain the whole "PANCAKES" thing to me?

Did something funny happen involving McCain and Pancakes?! The Google is not helping.

And by "fought for recognition" he meant "punched some guy in the nose for calling it Lincoln's birthday."

I think there's a difference. Being cynical about politics is part of reality, I got it. Obama, McCain, and everyone else who run for President blow smoke up everyone's ass, it's all part of the game.

However, claiming something is true when it is part of public record and easily provable that the opposite is true is another thing altogether. That means the liar just doesn't respect you at all, and sees the American public as idiots. It's more offensive than lying.

I see John is borrowing from Hillary's campaign strategy.

That said, these sort of blatant lies have been going on for at LEAST the last two elections. Why are we finally starting to catch on now?

Puke: A politician has lied?

You know... I expect a few half truths or even an occasional misstatement, but when I see one lie just about daily, it gets pretty sad. Especially when it's one who even has as slim a chance as McCain has to become president.

Yeah... I noted your sarcasm... just sayin'

I don't see why MLK Day is such a sacred cow. I don't really care either way, but there were and are perfectly legitimate objections to it not based on racism or hating Martin Luther King.

Because that is kind of the point here.

haha... I suppose not. Gotta love the part where I think he's continuing to get heckled and he gives this "kiss my ass" grin on his face, tosses the person a thumbs up and says, "Fine." and then continues on with his speech. What an uncomfortable position for him to have put himself in, eh?

Well, MLK did play the race card a lot.

I don't think McCain would be a good president. I think he'd be a disaster. Still, is it wrong of me to be embarrassed for McCain? It stems from the respect your elders ethic.

SherKhan: Still, is it wrong of me to be embarrassed for McCain?

He was tortured for years for his country. He was seen as a hero. He was seen as a Republican willing to stand up to the religious right and the party insiders. He gave all that away in a quest for power. It's really sad.

There is simply no excuse for this. After watching Obama and the blogosphere rip the shiat outta hillary with instant fact checking during that long haul of a primary race, McCain should know better than to let crap like this happen to him.

So either McCain is stupid or he's incompetent. There isn't any wriggle room here. He's either too stupid to learn from what Obama did during the primary race OR he's arrogant and incompetent and just didn't see this coming. Either way, this is exactly the sort of controversy that any competent staff of professionals should be able to see coming and avoid.

Odd. That's exactly what I called Neal Boortz on during this event.

He said that he expected his listeners to research his claims instead of blindly taking his word for it.

Yeah, right.

well, I wouldn't be so cynical about if I were you. The Obama/Hillary primary race made extensive use of the internet to fact check both candidates. Now granted - primary races tend to be the domain of politics geeks and not necessarily a trend for the general election.....that said, the speed at which Hillary's 'standard issue' lies were exposed was amazingly fast. And despite the efforts of the mainstream press to ignore the bloggers, it eventually became impossible to ignore the weight of evidence. Even Fox news and CNN were forced to mention some of the details on air.

So there's reason to believe that we'll see something similar happen in the general election.

I swear McCain is trying to throw this election. Either that or he's had a lobotomy when nobody was looking. I cannot believe that someone is really this stupid. He can't be that unaware of how pervasive information technology has become. NOBODY is that insulated from reality. And if he IS that out of touch, then he really has no business being in public office.

The problem with this post is that you're assuming voters considering voting for a Republican care about facts in the first place.

It won't happen because then Obama will be subject to the same thing - which would make him look bad when he does eventually spin the truth in his favor on a question.

Beyond that, no one will agree that the independent panel is actually fair. If McCain is called a liar, the republitards will whine about how they're liberal. If Obama is called a liar, the libtard will whine about how they're conservative. In the end no one will be happy and everyone will be (in their minds) villified in their own belief that other people are out to get them.

Are you serious? This is a man who said "It's a Google" when asked how he was looking for a VP. He has proudly said he will not blog. When asked if he used a mac or pc he looked like a deer in the headlights and deferred to his wife.

Now, yes, his campaign should be better on top of things, but McCain is their leader. They reflect his priorities. As for grandpa, I'd be surprised if he had the first clue what to do if he sat at a computer. It would be like Scotty talking into the mouse.
