(WFTV) Silly The experiment: Take a Domino's Meatzza pizza and stick it in the trunk. Now leave it in the hot Florida sun for seven days. Does your trunk smell like death or pizza? WFTV has done just that and the results are in   (wftv.com) divider line 114

Ummm...

Almost anything made in an American factory or restaurant chain has so many preservatives that it's never going to rot. Jesus Christ -- not even Spam has an expiration date; it has a half-life.

I think it has almost 3 times the half-life of Promethium.

Personally, that's the best use for Domino's pizza that I can think of.

There's a world of shenanigans whirling around this case, combined with illogical hope that the child is okay.

The article didn't mention it, but a cadaver-sniffing dog also identified the trunk as a source of human decomposition. These dogs are able to differentiate between human decomp and rotting food, or even other animal decomp.

My guess is that the child was either put in the truck (by mom, in a fit of anger) and she died there with a few short hours, or the child climbed in to hide (playfully?) and couldn't get out. Then there was a few days of panic, the child in the trunk, while mom figured out what to do with the body and invent a story that would keep her out of trouble.

There seems to be an inconsistency here. Sure, you can leave pizza in a box or in the open air and it will dry out and not rot. You seal it up in a plastic bag and that is an entirely different scenario. Either way... I don't know if this girl is innocent or not, but it seems like the police really want to pin it on her.

The basic ingredients of pizza would just dry up, and perhaps grow mould. And the meat is so full of salt and nitrates that it would just dry up as well.

Hell, I recently bought a salami from a Mennonite market that the lady said would keep indefinitely - and it was just naturally smoked.

This reminds me of the most horrifying scene in Supersize Me, which was in the long version at the end where he has the various brands of French fries under glass jars and the McDonald's ones look completely the same after a month or so while all the others are moldy and disgusting.

You want death stench? I just had to clean up four-day-old raw squid remains that a raccoon managed to get out of our "secure" garbage.

So you've never had a bag of garbage that smelled? I doubt she sealed the bag with a hot press and usually if you just tie a handled plastic bag, there are still spots where air can enter and stench escape.

Rotting*(Pizza)=Rotting*(Corpse)...divide by Corpse and you get Pizza = Corpse...which is clearly false. Math can prove everything...doesn't the rest of the world know this by now?

Considering this lady's mentality concerning her missing daughter, I think it might be more sinister than that. I think she would have confessed to an "accident" long before now.

Death stench, borrowed shovel, not reporting her missing, ect. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that the police should be looking for a body and not a mexican-immigrant babysitter/kidnapper.

Krymson Tyde 2008-08-03 10:17:47 AM
Information I learned in the mid 80's that might aid some of you down the road: borrowing your sister's Camaro to go catfishing and leaving chicken livers in the trunk under a hot Alabama sun for several days will, without a doubt, result in the pungent aroma of death persisting throughout the entire car for several weeks.

Here's an idea. Take this waste of skin and have her die in some way....then put her in a pizza box for 12 days and see what THAT smells like. I'll bet it would smell like the trunk of her car.

//if she did kill her kid and keep the body in her trunk
///innocent until proven guilty

I think the mom is probably guilty as hell, but their experiment has an obvious flaw. If the pizza were in a bag that was closed but not airtight, more moisture would remain with the pizza and you'd get more of a putrefying effect.

Whats grosser than gross?
Ten babies in a garbage can.

Whats grosser than that?
One baby in ten garbage cans.

Whats grosser than that?
Ten babies in a garbage can, one on the bottom alive and eating his way out.

Adman12: You want death stench? I just had to clean up four-day-old raw squid remains that a raccoon managed to get out of our "secure" garbage.

My father in law and I cleaned up a 15 lb bloated dead carp from the shore of his lakeside house. That smelled bad enough (the innards were jellyfied by then)... but then we put it in the trash, and trash pickup wasn't for 5 more days. After day one, the sealed trashcan smelled for a 5' radius, and the blowflies were very interested.

Those garbagemen didn't get paid enough for monday morning, I tell ya.

That said, tremendous journalism.

Oh, and true story- rotting human remains smells different somehow. I've smelled plenty of dead things in my time, but by far was the smell of the dead girl in college who OD'ed over spring break in my ex-gf's dorm. She was one floor down, right underneath her room. When they moved her corpse, ho-lee-sheeit it stank. It was unpleasant for the next couple of days in that room.

/you know something bad happpened when the real police are in a college dorm, and not campus police.

/was really poor at one time.

generic user 2008-08-03 11:01:53 AM
Yeah, the meat on a pizza is pre-cooked and treated with preservatives. It won't decay like a human body, nor would it smell like death. Usually, the death smell people relate to is the stench of body fluids going rancid.

The closest thing to that smell would be a pig. Now if they had ever been hunting in that car and toted the carcass home in the trunk, then there you go. But survey says.....BS

which would burst from the gasses released by decomposition.

you cant keep a good stank down.
