Finally, and answer to the age old question; "If a tree falls in Portsmouth, does a bored journalist write a tedius, long winded article about how it affected the lives of everyone in a 2 mile radius?"

Too bad there weren't any tree-sitters in it.

/live too close to Berkeley.

It's quiet in New Hampshire, and we like it that way.

lol

bonus points for the name "slippery elm."

We just had a giant tree like that topple on our street during some storms last week. No one was hurt but it took out two parked cars. The city took away the foliage but it looks like they need special equipment to haul off the trunk, because it's still lying there, looks like about 1 1/2 - 2 ft diameter across the middle.

I'm sure the folks whose cars were totalled don't think so, but actually it's kinda sad when such a big old tree goes down. On the other hand, I think it must have been sick and rotting from inside if a storm was able to pull it down.

Clever.

Technically, the crack didn't kill, though. That's like saying "coughing up blood kills" when you've been shot in the stomach.

/too grisly for Sunday morning?

brendanisonline 2008-08-03 11:07:59 AM
God, what a tragedy. This epidemic is getting out of hand.

NotWithoutAsswelts 2008-08-03 11:12:22 AM
Was anyone else kinda disappointed when they clicked through?

Crackheads getting killed by their crack is part of the solution, not the problem.

Slippery Elm....100 years old? I'm surprised dutch elm or something else didn't kill it first.

/ elm trees are awesome
// wants to be an elm tree

I want to move to this town where a tree falling makes the news and people go on for paragraphs at end about how much they hate losing trees.

It seems like it'd be a nice place to live.

Sir_Lurksalot 2008-08-03 11:41:23 AM
If a tree falls in the middle of downtown Portsmouth and no one is around to hear it... does it make a sound?

"Weak roots on a slippery elm caused some commotion downtown Friday morning when the century-old tree fell over, crossing Court Place and into nearby a parking lot."

That's some real good editing you got there.

Bummer, but it does look a little bit better that way.

The town where the tree fell, Portsmouth, is a great town BTW.
