I think the first Rainbow album was Rinnie's 2nd best, next to Heaven and Hell.
Plus, I'm slightly embarrased to say I went to a Renfest just to see Blackmore's Night. I enjoyed it immensely. Candice is an average singer, but she's also teh hawt!

Gonna be seeing Dio with Heaven and Hell at the end of this month, along with Judas Priest, Motorhead, and Testament. I can't farking wait.

Most of the original Rainbow guys (including Dio) were from a great 70's band called Elf (new window), from Cortland, NY. They were all great players, and several of them still live in the Cortland area.

Check out Elf's albums, especially the first one (new window). It's great boogie-woogie rock and roll, and of course features Dio's vocals singing non-metal -- something he does pretty well.

Blackmore's Night should be changed to--

Pussy Whipped Elf.

I know some folks who work with him and are his friends and neighbors on Long Island.

He actually likes that stuff, and that's why he does it. He has been offered $5M to reform with Dio for one tour and said no. He lives relatively simply, and doesn't need the money, and does what he wants to musically. And I don't think he has the bad attitude he was so famous for in the 70s anymore.

Please note I've never met the man myself, so this is just what I hear, and could be wrong.

My amateur psychoanalysis is that Richie likes the control Blackmore's Night offers him. It's even more guitar driven than his hard rocking bands (no other instrumentalists to compete with) and Candice is basically still a background singer (no range, no real progression since 'Ooooh, Aaariel'). So he can put his guitar and his 'stache in the spotlight.

Or he just likes the more laid-back approach. Probably somewhere in-between...

Went to a concert once, which was split in half: Overweight ren-fair chicks (and we don't even have ren fairs around here), and old fans who consistently demanded some of the old faves. Well, we even got a few and let me say one thing: If your voica can only be describes as 'softly meandering', singing a Dio song isn't very flattering.

Why do the Fark mods love Dio so much? The guy is just horrible. He has more comedy value to me than real musical value.

You can't recommend Blackmore's Night to a Rainbow fan without explaining that Blackmore's Night is a completely different kind of band.

Night is a renaissance-inspired folk rock band and we're not talking awesome folk rock/metal like Skyclad; Rainbow is a hard rock/heavy metal band. It's totally different.

And as for you, iammess, turn in your scrote and/or ovaries, you have lost your reproductive privileges for gross lack of musical taste.
