I won't get into the details right now (you can email me if you want them) , but if one were to accept High School musicals as criteria, there are 5 degrees of separation between myself and Kevin Bacon. And since Wil Wheaton is a regular on fark (he once commented on a submission of mine) does this mean all of us are 1 degree of separation from him?

My only cool link is to Hitler which is 4. Actually since I knew an MP who worked with Paul Martin which gives me a link of two to him and that expands insanely. Similarly I am 3 away from Bill Clinton or whatever.

Still cool to see they actually tried to get some solid numbers on this.

I play in a band with a former diplomat who spent 6 years in Cuba and is a very good friend with the brother of Castro. So I'm like 3 away from Nikita Khrushchev.

You just need to know that one person who knows someone famous and you have a massive opening. My uncle used to play in a band with Neil Young and played with the members of The Guess Who way back in the day. Thus I'm 2 away from Neil Young which means I'm 3 away from a lot of famous rockers.

Since I was in a community play with Karen Allen in the early 1980's and she was in Animal House with Kevin Bacon, I have just one degree of separation.

/It was a bit part
// there are no small parts, only small actors.

I am hardly a tin hatter, but does anyone else see this as vaguely disturbing?

Not a hate on Msoft, but the numbers make me wonder what else they could discern from records.

Meh! I tuned the piano for Billy Joel, Frank Sinatra, Frank Jr, Chic Corea, Doc Severinsen's band, and a few more. That puts me 2 degree from many rockers. And I served on the same killer sub as Jimmy Carter but at a later date. Still trying to scrub the mark off from that.

Yeah, that would be three degrees since Fidel fellated Nikita.
and only four degrees From Stalin. Who met with FDR, so Five degrees from FDR, who served on Woodrow Wilson's cabinet. So six degrees from him, and he Met DW GRIFFIN after the film Birth of a Nation came out, so you are Seven degrees from the father of the modern Motion Picture.

Once I was watching Pan's Labyrinth with a friend of mine in one of my high school classes after finals. In the middle of it, I leaned over to him, and said the following:

Me: "Pan's Labyrinth takes place during the Spanish Civil War. Eric Blair fought in that war. His pen name was George Orwell, which he used when he wrote Animal Farm and 1984. Okay, Eric Blair communicated back and forth with Aldous Huxley through letters discussing dystopian novels. Aldous Huxley is the grandson of T.H. Huxley, who taught a class on Biology (or genetics, correct me if I'm wrong). One of his students was none other than H.G. Wells, who went on to write War of the Worlds, First Men on the Moon, and The Invisible Man. The Invisible Man is the basis of a recent film called Hollow Man. Do you know who stars in Hollow Man?

Friend: "No?"

Me: "Kevin Bacon."

I'd like to mention he's never been able to top me on that one. We couldn't stop laughing for a while during that class either.

I know someone who met him. This was before his conversion to the undead.

In this study, 24,163 letter chains were attempted, and only 384 were completed. That means 23,779 were not. If this proves anything, it proves that there is absolutely no connection between most people. The six degrees theory has been repudiated, not confirmed. Barely more than 1.5% of the chains were completed, so it could be said that less than 2 of any 100 people can be connected at all.

I've interviewed Kevin Bacon (when I was writing for a music magazine). Still have the microcasette tape -- this was before digital hand-held recorders.

Congrats, you're all 2 degrees from him.
