(Idolator) Interesting After Madonna and Nickelback, Depeche Mode tells Warner Music Group to enjoy their silence, claiming they felt "underserved." This is another major loss for Warner whose death rattle is getting louder than the music they put out   (idolator.com) divider line 17

I dunno.... the silence of Madonna, Nickelback, and Depeche Mode is enjoyable for a lot of the rest of us.

Seriously, the record companies are not forever. Nobody is required to listen to the music to which they own rights. Don't, and they will go away.

The problem is that the music industry keeps 'moving the goal posts' and claiming rights that they never had in the first place. Nobody is slapping them down either. So their desperate tactics only get worse.

One thing I never hear from these guys is how they plan on addressing the media pirates operating from China. They always want to go after the locals here in the states, but I don't hear thing one from ANY corporation about how they plan on stopping intellectual property 'theft' from our chinese buddies in asia.

Actually, they spend A LOT of money doing just this. It is somewhat difficult considering the Chinese government doesn't give a rat's ass in the weeks which do not contiain the Olympics.

I have yet to see even a single chinese 'video pirate' hauled into a US court for 'copyright violation'.

WMG isn't going anywhere anytime soon. People forget how many subsidiary labels they own (ie Reprise, a massive label in its own right). In the long run, WMG may be in a downhill slide, but it's a long way down that slope unless something really industry-changing accelerates the process.

Another loss, you say? What were the others

Here is the problem:

1. Nickelback = Sucks beyond belief. They are Coldpay/Creed sucky.
2. Madonna = Sucks. Nasty skank well past her prime.
3. Depeche Mode = Sucks. Has "respect" because they were never talented enough to sell out as much as the before mentioned bands.

I think a lot of people would/will disagree with that.

depeche mode have more talent in their pinky fingers than those two "artists" have in their entire bodies

Here is the proper listing. Perhaps a 'three tier' ordination is best.

In the first tier, a HELL of a lot of bands that aren't Madonna, Nickleback, or Depeche Mode.

In the second tier, you will find Madonna and Depeche Mode -- this is a very broad category.

In the last tier, you will find Nickleback, just above the sound of Satan's Buttcrack and just below everything else. Or, perhaps they share last place with a bunch other crap too good to come out of lord of evil's crusty ass.

Nickleback, worst band ever, which is pretty damn bad.

The only advantage you have being on a major label, vs being indie, is that major labels have the money to promote the living shiat out of you, but...

you give up your rights as an artist.

/stay indie, people, DIY

I hate Nickleback as much as the next guy, but they sure as hell rake in the cash.

When that song first came out -- you know the one by nickleback -- my landlady's son came over one day and played it on her stereo. Then played it again. Then again. Then again. Then again. Then again. Then again. Finally I came out to ask why he was doing that. He got mad at me. SO I went back to my tiny $500 room. And the painters working on the next house over started blasting Blink 187 and Backstreet Boys while they worked. And I decided there was too much crank in California and moved to Oregon.

I've quit two jobs that play Charlie FM. I have queer reactions to bad sounds.

Are "major" record labels still around? Screw the major labels because all they care about now is making money, not art. Any jackass can reproduce robots and get the exact same results. Let's keep that to the robot industry, please. If they cannot make money promoting real art then either : A) They do not have the necessary promoting skill or B) They are not promoting real art to begin with.
Good luck to those record labels (they'll need it, unless they want to front me money to make an album- I will create sounds that need hardly any promotion whatsoever- because the sound will be completely undeniable- and I am not talking britney, rihanna, or even radiohead bull-shiat.

All I'm saying is if I had 1/2 as much money as major labels have wasted on the recording of complete trash, I would create a complete masterpiece.
