Workers at the Tyson Foods poultry processing plant in Shelbyville will no longer have a paid day off on Labor Day but will instead be granted the Muslim holiday Eid al-Fitr

This is America.

I think it's only fair. 700 of the 1200 workers are Muslim. I know, all logical and stuff.

mark12A 2008-08-02 01:11:47 PM
Hmmmm. If the workers threatened to behead Tyson execs for dissing Labor Day, they would be treated with more deference.

Muzzies aren't stupid. They know being badass gets results.

Well, this is gonna make the heads of progrssives explode.

On the one hand, since it's a religious holiday, they will start frothing at the mouth.

On the other hand, its for brown skinned third-worlders, so they have an opportunity to feel good about their commitment to diversity.

If this was a Christian Holiday you would be singing a different tune I think.

We had a huge Tyson plant in Emporia Kansas where I live, they got a whole shiatload of Somali's to move here and work for them, and it sounds like they are doing that everywhere they run plants.

They cut a farkload of jobs at Tyson this year, and 90 percent of the Somali's moved out of town, probably to go work at another Tyson.

Isn't there some law about importing labor?

from what i understand, most somali's in the US are humanitarian refugees; so i dont think this is exactly "importing labor."

I don't have a problem with them working in the country, I was more wondering if they aren't all getting farked by Tyson. 700 out of 1200 workers at that plant are Somali, I bet at least 1/3rd of the workers at the major Tyson plant in my town were Somali, this can't just be two places.

Do they get off for Cinco de Mayo?

PAPASandBEER 2008-08-02 01:29:02 PM
How would you like to have been one the company executives sitting in on the labor negotiations with the union leaders?

The union's asking for: pork-free cafeteria lunches ("done-we'll give 'em chicken"), Muslim holidays off work ("done-we'll scrap labor day, I mean, a day off's a day off"), and for every female employee's genitals to be mutilated in a semi-public ritual which will help bring them closer to Alah ("don...--er, well, let's get Legal in here see what we can do.")

I mean, have a spine.

From the article's comments:

I read somewhere that if a Muslim man sees a woman naked, he is required to commit suicide because a naked woman is an abomination to Allah. I suggest that all the women in Shelbyville go down to the plant parking lot and get naked when the shift changes. Mass suicide would insue and eliminate the problem!

Something tells me suicide is a viable option if you see all the women of Shelbyville naked....

altinos: I'd hope they'd allow the non-Muslims to trade their day off.

if you are Jewish, you dont get to trade yom Kippur for Christmas.. why should this be any different? They are trying to find a way to accommodate the majority of their employees who would be asking for the day off anyhow. its rather a sensible decision business-wise.

On the third hand or first foot, depending on which mutant progressive is doing the counting, it is a slap in the face to organised labor.

I don't see the big deal. A good farking majority of the workers are Muslim. Eid is a very important holiday for Muslims, it equates with Yom Kippur or Easter in it's importance to Muslims. I think these mouth-breathers in the comments section of the article need some serious biatch slaps to the face region.

Did anyone go to the White Supremacist blog? It really, really pissed me off.

True, but then they all left. Well, almost all of them. I live on one side of town, and the Somalis lived primarily in a part of town I drive through to get home. They had a restaurant there (funny story, some redneck tried to rob them with a rifle, they whooped his ass and took his gun) and would all hang out there. Now the restaurant is gone and I haven't seen any Somali's around here.

I wonder where he read it. If that were the case, I wonder how we (Muslims) would have sex. It would be difficult to not show skin when doing it.

There's quite a few Muslims in Tennessee. Besides Shelbyville, IIRC, Nashville has one of the largest population of Kurdish immigrants in the United States (I believe they even set up a special polling station for them so they could vote in the Iraqi elections).

About 10 years ago, a very large computer company that started in a small garage in Palo Alto CA, took away the Good Friday holiday and substituted MLK day.

First generation immigrants tend to go where the jobs are - usually the really icky ones. So anywhere you have a chicken plant, migrant farm work, pig processing (not muslims here, natch), etc, you'll have sudden influxes. Which sometimes disappear just as quickly...

panzerfaustbob 2008-08-02 01:43:05 PM
I don't like commie-inspired holidays or blatantly false religions or Tyson chicken, so the lot of them can fark off.

Precisely what? I don't understand your point. What's wrong with allowing a religious group to take one day to celebrate with their family? Neither my family nor I are religious and we celebrate Eid. It's an important time religiously and culturally.

I was trying to find the story, and couldn't find anything about it other than this.

Clinton Peck is sentenced to 18 months in prison on charges stemming from an attempted robbery at the Ayan Restaurant in January. Source (new window)

As I understand it, there are quite a few white Supremacist blogs. Your opportunities to be pissed off are nearly limitless. Quite a few of the best white racists on Nationstates general forum prefer some site called Stormfront. On the strength of their tenacity I would suggest that as your next destination to be pissed off.
