At three stops in the battleground state of Missouri on Tuesday, Obama told audiences that his opponent is trying to make voters "scared" of him because he doesn't look like past presidents -- an apparent reference to being black -- and has a "funny name."

I like how the Republicans are outraged -- OUTRAGED -- over this.

All we hear from McCain voters are allegations about Obama being an "OMG SECRET MUSLIM" because his first name sounds like "Osama", not-so-subtle statements that they'll never vote for "one of them", and complaints that Obama will fill the White House with "them".

And now that someone has called them on it, the Republicans are feigning outrage and pointing fingers. Meanwhile, Obama is sweeping the spotlight to talk about gas prices, the economy, unemployment, and Iraq.

Appearing on NBC's "Today Show" Friday, McCain campaign manager Rick Davis said the campaign is merely reacting to what he deems an attack on the Arizona senator. "I think we were perfectly within our rights to protect our candidate and to point out that we're not going to lay down for these kinds of tactics," he said. "And I think that was fair."

Nobody has answered this yet: What attacks?

Sorry, I can't make out any useful points amid the sea of "ZOMG HIS FIRST NAME SOUNDS LIKE OSAMA" and "OMG TERRISTS GOIN' GETCHA" and "OBAMA STARTED THE RACE WAR". If McCain has in fact made any useful points yet, his supporters have buried them under a sea of racism and bigotry.

These folks (both sides) need to stop playing the 'race card' card. I don't know who it reassures when the media or whoever says that it is the race card. It's getting old and really has very little to do with what's actually going on.

I think that's part of McCain's strategy.

HE is playing the race card. Obama is ignoring it. Same thing he did when Hillary made that assassination comment. Same thing he did with that New Yorker article. Basically, Obama is -- and has been -- saying "Look, we've got more important things to worry about. Let's talk about the economy."

And that is *infuriating* the Republicans.

I suppose that's true...But they keep repeating it. I guess it's that whole 'repeat the lie until it becomes the truth' thing.

Our country DOES have race issues, no doubt. But let's discuss those as issues and not just finger pointing.

"Nobody really thinks that Bush or McCain have a real answer for the challenges we face," Obama said Wednesday in Springfield, Missouri. "So what they're going to try to do is make you scared of me. You know, he's not patriotic enough. He's got a funny name. You know, he doesn't look like all those other presidents on those dollar bills, you know. He's risky."

That sound you just heard was McCain's campaign manager dropping a load in his shorts....

Want to see a racial divide? listen to the philly democrats talk about how the rest of the state owes them a living. it makes for some interesting conversations around the watering hole.

I generally try to avoid anything involving Philly unless it somehow relates to Ikea. Didn't we just dump a few billion of our general fund into SEPTA or something? Let's just give them to New Jersey and be done with it. Maybe we can trade them for Atlantic City.

Philly is a black hole of spending and corruption. But because of their massive population, they decide who gets to be governor and who gets elected to the US senate. So by necessity our leaders have to pander to a bunch of racist, greedy, piggish, uncaring corrupt dickwads who leech money out of the states general fun and whine when they don't get whatever they want.

McCain has basically cornered Obama this week. Obama cannot make any effective counter without doing the "usual politics" that Obama claims to hate.

As well, this is driving Obama's campaign up the wall, as numerous members of it are claiming racism. Where none exists. This alienates white voters even more.

The objective isn't to do use tactics that will backfire. It's to make the Obama campaign lose their minds and blow their lead.

The McCain ad showing how arrogant and bizarre Obama is ("The One"); that's doing a lot to prove this point.

Correction: John McCain has worked very, very diligently to make sure that race is not an issue he brings up himself, but one hinted at by political subordinates. You know, clean campaign, all that jazz.

"...we are not going to let anybody paint John McCain, who's fought his entire life for equal rights for everyone, to be able to be painted as racist."

I'm so farking sick of all the faux outrage. It's like some sort of twisted, political Kabuki dance. It makes me miss the out-and-out mudslinging. Now people sling mud and then complain when they get covered in it themselves.

except in Pa, where the situation is reversed. For reasons to long and involved to post here, philly has driven most of it's businesses out of city limits. Philly takes in FAR more tax dollars than it generates. Add in a growing population, falling property values and an aging population all across the rest of the state...

Why doesn't Obama challenge McCain to reject and/or denounce the "Evil Mooslim" email campaign that he is benefiting from? It would have been prudent to wait for the first big debate to do so, for the larger viewership as well as the added bonus of putting McCain on the spot.

It was short-sighted for Obama to bring it up now because even though McCain seems willing to benefit from people believing the Manchurian-terrorist tripe, he hasn't personally made an issue of race.

Because McCain will do it and make it clear that he's a classy individual while Obama is an empty suit.

Anyways, when Hillary denounced those rumors, the Obamabots still jumped on her.

To play the race card you have to either:

1) Claim that your opponent has unfairly attacked you due to your race; or
2) Claim that you have been victimized because of your race.

This hasn't happened. Obama is pointing out that he is different. AND HE IS! So what?

Buchanan is speaking the truth. The only way McCain has a shot is by racially polarizing the electorate, fanning the flames of hate, and wishing for low turnout. He needs something...*anything*...to spark his campaign or shut down Obama's.
