So the McCain campaign is officially going for the "bitter old man" angle?

Diogenes [TotalFark] 2008-08-01 05:15:22 PM
Oh for cryin out loud. He's really gone around the bend.

I thought the "gathering wolves" ad from...what, 2004?...was about as low as you could go, at least as far as analogies/symbols go. McCain's just thrashing out now.

Skleenar 2008-08-01 05:22:52 PM
I really hate this strategy of McCain's.

Firstly, it is a pure and simple attempt at character assassination. There's not even the barest nod to issues--they don't even pretend to tie this to anything substantive.

Secondly, it is using false quotes of Barack, and even when it is is not, it's taking jokes Barack made and playing them out of context.

But mostly, because it just really, really sucks.

The Onanist: So the McCain campaign is officially going for the "bitter old man" angle?

Well, since McCain is a bitter old man I guess it suits him.

This is actually worse than the "Hillary quit the band" video, and that's saying a lot.

Lionel Mandrake [TotalFark] 2008-08-01 05:29:28 PM
John McCain has the singular distinction of going from a man I once considered the embodiment of what makes a man truly exceptional, to what makes a man exceptionally pathetic.

I miss you John McCain of the past.
Fk you John McCain of the present.

Diogenes [TotalFark] 2008-08-01 05:31:19 PM
Skleenar: I really hate this strategy of McCain's.

Do you think it'll work? At least to some significant degree? Or just solidify the existing lines? I'd say the latter, but my faith in the voting public ain't what it used to be (ahhh...the naivete of youth...).

Skleenar 2008-08-01 05:33:01 PM
"It's downright sad that on a day when we learned that 51,000 Americans lost their jobs, a candidate for the presidency is spending all of his time and the powerful platform he has on these sorts of juvenile antics. Senator McCain can keep telling everyone how 'proud' he is of these political stunts which even his Republican friends and advisors have called 'childish', but Barack Obama will continue talking about his plan to jumpstart our economy by giving working families $1,000 of immediate relief," said Obama campaign spokesman Hari Sevugan.

Diogenes: Do you think it'll work? At least to some significant degree?

I think it has more to do with him trying to shore up his weakness with his own party than his trying to convince potential Obama voters.

This is probably more about Bob Barr than Barack Obama.

Speaking of cheap political stunts. Still, I don't like to see campaign ads that look like stuff I can get in these threads.

This is clever, McCain, and it would be funny if it weren't for the fact that you want to be president!

How is it leadership to biatch and moan because someone else is getting all the intention? What, are we in Jr. High?

It's sad, really, to see how this is playing out. If I were a Republican, I'd be pissed. Any real conservative should vote "None of the above", at least maintain your dignity.

Nabb1: Speaking of cheap political stunts. Still, I don't like to see campaign ads that look like stuff I can get in these threads.

Fair enough. Still, it's a stunt that's at least substantive to the people who are pulling the voting levers.

This commercial, on the other hand...Rachel Maddow just nailed it a minute ago when she said it looks like a parody video that some college kid put together and posted on YouTube.

I figured somebody else had already made that YouTube analogy (and I was right). Was the first thing that popped into my head, although I might have said "high school" rather than "college".

If someone else had made the analogy, I probably wouldn't have bothered repeating it here. But it's Rachel Maddow, whose bathwater I would happily drink.

Just Googled Rachel Maddow. Don't think her bathwater is for you. Not Yours!

No, it's for her girlfriend's.

Still, watching her kick Pat Buchanan's ass up and down the block on a regular basis is almost enough for me.

Almost.

is McCain running for President or host of The Daily Show?

CravenMorehead 2008-08-01 07:16:57 PM
How much you wanna bet that Olbermann does a "Special Comment" on this?

He's so far in the tank for Obama it's disgusting. I was a big fan but I can't even watch his show anymore. All he does is defend anything Obama does and attack everything McCain does. Kinda sad.

If John McCain were to do a single thing worthy of being considered a good candidate, maybe Olbermann wouldn't be so much in the tank for Obama.

Good Christ, this McCain shiat is middle school level campaigning.

McCain is keeping very busy showing he does not have the temperament or decision making ability to be president.

Took him long enough. Theater of the obvious. He is the underwear model come to deliver us. Prai-sah Jaysus, err Obama.

Jesus is the last guy I want leading the charge. He needs to be kept warm in swaddling cloths. In the rear. Way back. Out of the way. Making small time policy legislation in the Senate. Public housing or something.

"Who gave us this nice project apartment Mama?"
"Jesus I mean Obama son, Obama"

Has a nice ring to it.

Maybe you should spend less time fantasizing about Obama modeling underwear.

"You will use reusable grocery bags or we'll stand there and sneer at you." "Make laws excluding rights and benefits for illegal aliens? (now here's where the strange alliance of Catholic church and mad libbers occurs) You racist piece of shiat."

Jesus Christ on a Ritz cracker, the radical religious (human secular earth worshipper)fundies are the fringe left. The ones whose candidate is running for President this time. Radical lefties.

It's really shameful how popular Mr. Obama is. Even his opponent can't bring himself to talk about anyone else, even though trying to garner attention for himself by talking about himself is in his best interest. Except for how he doesn't have a lot of good things to say about himself.

Well at least the candidates are using each other's names instead of saying "my opponent." I hate that so much!

Softens_hands_while_you_do_the_dishes: You will use reusable grocery bags or we'll stand there and sneer at you.

I was just in Iceland, and the grocery stores there had the great idea of charging for every bag you wanted (about $0.10).

Don't like paying that? Great! Bring your bags. Too lazy to remember? It's a freaking dime... win/win

This made me think of something. Has anyone else ever noticed that Barack occasionally refers to himself in the third person? He doesn't do it all the time but I've found it kind of odd when he does. Is he trying to make sure people that turn on the TV mid-speach know who he is? It isn't affecting my strong support for him at all, but it's weird.

depmode98 2008-08-01 07:49:26 PM
it's not even a GOOD attempt at character assassination. The video closes with "He may be the messiah.. but is he ready to lead..?" What the hell does that mean? After what you have just shown me, i'd have to say fark yea.

Wight Power [TotalFark] 2008-08-01 07:49:27 PM
I honestly have to say I really do want to see what he's going to come up with next. I am completely baffled by this strategy and McCain hasn't failed to take it to the next level of insanity yet.

I thought the "Obama is David Hasselhoff" ad was looney, and I thought the "Obama is Britney Spears" ad was completely nuts. I don't know where you can go after "Obama is Jesus." If he actually comes out and says "Obama is God, creator of life" I will sponsor the first person who calls me on it to six months of TF.

I think it's pretty clear that McCain either has no position for himself to stand on or truly is clinically insane. I need a beer.

The only thing I can think of is that McCain doesn't really want the presidency. He's really the McCain of 2000, but so disgusted with his own party he's bringing it down from the inside?

Falcc,

We are doing an informal opinion poll with some Obama supporters and would really appreciate your input. There's a gift for participating. More on that later. This week's question:
In the last two weeks has your jacking off thinking about an Obama presidency
Increased
Tapered off
Stayed about the same

Just circle one, fold the paper and return to me in the postage paid envelope provided.

Your confidentiality is assured. Please allow 2 to 4 weeks for delivery of your complimentary Obama jackoff to victory in 08 cup. Again, thank you for participating.
