FTA: The Chamber, they said, had set no limits on the open bar.

First mistake. That's a challenge in my books.

TFA: Party-goers put some of the blame on the bar, saying that the waiters who served them had - among other things - slapped an 18 percent gratuity on the bill.

Yeah, because $6727 was so much more reasonable.

How much booze will $8,204 buy?

Answer: 155 pitchers of beer, 37 bottles of beer, 208 mixed drinks, 111 shots, 43 margaritas and 11 open bottles of liquor

/not to shabby

FTA: "Fundamentally, this shows a lack of responsibility on a number of people's part including Chamber personnel and management at The Exchange,"

BZZZZT. Wrong. The Chamber is not responsible for your buyer's remorse and/or your employees lack of self control and/or your lack of specific spending guidelines.

Go fark yourself Mr. Chavern.

It was a party for 100 people. That's $82.04/person. I have spent that in a night before. Non story.

I thought that the market research was going to come from Jevon Walker.

A pitcher is only ~4 beers. A 750ml bottle of booze in ~25 shots. Counting it all up together, that is 1294 drinks, plus or minus... roughly 13 drinks/person at 5 bucks a piece.

Yeah, thats a bit much. Not outrageously, but its a lot.

$8K is not that big of deal for the # of people.

You have to keep in mind though that most girls can't have 13 drinks a night, or at the very least probably shouldn't. The guys have to make up the difference on all of that. For a Thursday night, knowing you have to come into work the next day, is a little more than marginally impressive.

so, wait. are the "party-goers" saying that the waiters that served them didn't deserve 18%? would 15% have been better?

i always say, if you you don't have money to tip, you don't have money to go out.

I am guessing that they said that the bill included drinks they didn't order, but the author didn't want to get in the middle of unprovable allegations so he included that really weak tip argument instead.

By my account that's 82 bucks a person. And if its Washington DC rates. that's probably 6 drinks or so per person. Big freaking deal. Just dock them 60 bucks in pay and stop making such a fuss about the situation.

pvd021 2008-08-01 03:11:31 PM
And just to give you an idea. A mixed drink in DC will cost between 8-12 dollars. A beer alone may cost you 6-8 bucks. This is Washington DC, where a 'home' (not house) in the ghetto may set you back 300k.

TFA: "In his e-mail, Chavern asked staffers to contact The Exchange to say that the Chamber will not be patronizing the establishment for the foreseeable future."

So Chavern is implying that this incident is the bar's fault? WTF... nobody takes responsibility for anything anymore.

Farking amatures...

Last year at a company conference 10 of us ran up a $3K dinner and bar tab one night. With tip it pretty much maxed out my corporate card. I was fully reimbursed. Now they make us attach itemized reciepts with our expense reports, alcohol is not covered and we didn't have a conference this year... wouldn't be surprised if more than a few of you farkers were there...
