Please stay in the Senate for as long as you can, Senator. Sure, there are some mean people in your party ignoring you in the cloakroom and refusing to answer your calls, and there may even be some subtle hints about how maybe you want to "spend some more time with your family"*, but you need to rise above that.

Keep on keeping on. And when you're up for reelection, and the GOP fund a primary opponent, you need to bring up how you, bravely, stop UP to the tyranny of bathroom cops, and defended a man's right to do whatever the hell he pleases in a public bathroom.

You need to run ads on how you valiantly fought to get your original guilty plea overturned, because after all, if a US Senator can get confused between "guilty" and "No I did not try to get some gay strange in a public restroom", how can a simpler man, an Idaho farmer, for instance, get justice for himself?

*besides, you don't want to go back to that harpy. She NEVER wears the strapon.

What was the Carlin joke?

Something like,

"Hey how 'bout a 68?"
"That's when you blow me and I owe you one..."

Why, yes it is.

EliteAnalyst: This wasn't a case of a republican who was secretly gay; it was a morally degenerate not-terribly-closeted gay pretending to be a republican to get elected to office, and kneecapping his fellow gays on his way up the ladder. Craig makes gays look bad, not straights, not republicans, and perpetuates their stereotype as inherently deceitful.

Gays have a inherently deceitful sterotype? Since when?

You have to wonder what the hell he is thinking. Does he really believe that getting his conviction overturned will actually change anyone's opinion of him? Does he think anyone believes not guilty = not gay?

Of course. If Barney Frank got caught peeking through a glory hole, it would be amusing, but not terribly newsworthy. Hell, even if a "straight" politician who advocated gay rights got caught having some gay sex, it wouldn't be that big of a deal- except to his wife. But when it's a guy who's railed against teh gheys, then it's delicious to watch his pain.

A good friend of mine came out in her mid twenties, to the full support of her family and friends, and in a state where she can legally marry another woman. She said she waited so long (she had obviously known for years), partly because of assholes like this guy.

I don't believe in outing people, but in the case of closeted Republicans (or Democrats who vote "pro family" nonsense) should be made an example of.

Well put.
Not that our society didn't have some effect on his forming the idea that he'd have to closet himself in the first place (especially in people of his generation or older), thus starting the cycle of self-loathing, deceit, resentment etc.
If he was a jerk to begin with, this only made it worse.

The airport called and asked if they could please do something about all the "straight" men having buttsecks in the bathroom. Actual bathroom-goers were getting annoyed about the wait.

What exactly are our expectations of our politicians?

Do we expect them to be perfect? Do we expect them to be honest? Do we expect them to represent us?

Suppose I'm personally against drilling domestically for oil, but 75% of my constituents want that. What do I do? Do I vote my interests or do I vote what my constituents that elected me want me to do?

So if Mr. Craig likes a little tossed salad, but knows that 70% of his constituents don't like it, what should he do?

Personally, I think Larry needs to step aside. And take "Mr. Bridge to nowhere" and "Mr. I have $90,000 in my freezer" with you.

I believe his legal argument is based on a precedent stating that you have a reasonable expectation of privacy in a public washroom stall.

One wonders how that expectation remains after going beyond the walls of your stall to troll for booty.

That'll fail, because that's not the issue up for appeal - he plead guilty, and the judge refused to let him retract his plea. That's what he's appealing...

/will probably fail too

Quick question: What exactly does being "pro-family" entail? Every time I see the phrase in use, it's somehow used in conjunction with an attempt to quash another societal group's rights.

It would make this whole thing even more amusing if he were able to withdraw his guilty plea, then be found guilty anyway.

ultraholland 2008-08-01 12:35:18 PM
The guy pleaded guilty. If he believed he was innocent of a crime and decided to plead guilty, then realized that may have made a mistake, he is an idiot and should not be holding office.

Ikahoshi 2008-08-01 12:35:21 PM
He pleaded guilty, the judge accepted the plea, he went home on bail pending sentencing, then a little time passed and he changed his mind... hence the appeal.

You can't do that. Once you enter your plea, the deed is done, which is why you have to think carefully about it. Maybe if you can show you're mentally unsound you can get out of it... But barring that, he's admitted guilt, lets get on with the sentencing.

This guy better just let it go, he's screwed his image so bad it doesn't matter what the outcome is.

That's what I understand too, Thaetetus. The fun begins with Baby Diego's idea. I have a reasonable expectation of privacy in stall too - the expectation that the dude next to me won't stick his feet or hands underneath the partition. This is going to get ugly for former Seat-bator Craig. The prosicution is going to point out exactly what his behaviors mean in the airport stall gay underworld.

This buffoon also held a press conference announcing he would step down from office, sending the local press into a frenzy.

He later renegged on that as well. He's been villified via letters to the editor ever since. What an embarassment this guy is.

It's very unlikely he'll be allowed to withdraw his plea. I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't secretly counting on not being able to. He can pretend he made a mistake that kept him from being able to vindicate himself when the reality is a trial would have been much more damning.

FTFY. It seems logical that gay people who are comfortable with their orientation would start their booty calls at a bar or nightclub.

Unless your kink is picking up random and potentially dirty strangers in a public washroom instead of a meat market...

Judge: So, your client is a lawmaker, correct?

Lawyer: Yes.

Judge: So, in order for him to be a competent lawmaker, he should probably understand the law correct?

Lawyer: That would help, yes sir.

Judge: And the basis of your case is that your client didn't understand what it means to plead guilty? Either your client is a really bad lawmaker and should resign his seat based on the grossest of incompetence, or he is lying through his teeth and is trying to cover his ass now that his attempt to have his ass filled by cock has made national news, and based on that he should resign. In either case, the lower court's decision stands. Oh, and your client is teh homo.
