There's only one way to finally settle this Edwards scandal:

Won't they be able to confirm he's the father just by looking at the kids hair?

Asked Thursday why no father was listed on the birth certificate, Hunter's attorney, Robert Gordon of New York, said, "A lot of women do that."

Sounds like Edwards really gets around.

It's not like it's some independent blog, it's the website of the Charlotte Observer, a paper that has been continually in print since 1869.

Even a green light on Fark probably won't make a big difference in their overall traffic.

Prospero424 [TotalFark] 2008-08-01 06:54:13 AM
Wow. The father's not named on the birth certificate. The mother insists it's not Edwards. Yet the National Enquirer claims that it is, but they're not going to show the "proof" to anybody 'cause they're "not ready yet" even though they're obviously trying to milk the "scandal" for all it's worth as we speak.

P.T. Barnum (or Joseph Smith, for that matter) would be laughing his ass off. People will buy anything if you put it next to the cash register.

Is there some way to filter out every headline mentioning "Edwards" on the main page for about another two weeks or so?

Only half-serious, but still...

SeismicJizzer 2008-08-01 06:58:18 AM
You have to give the National Enquirer some props for staying on to a story, maybe they should have a media pass at the White House.

Makes about as much sense as the leftists in the mainstream press taking any Republican sex scandal story from Larry Flynt as gospel.

Republicans are easy. All you have to do is quote their indictment or arrest record. Besides, even if it were true, a story about a hetero male having a baby with an actual woman is far less titallating than the wide stance/page boy boning GOP crowd. Sorry.

I don't know if he "preached" about being a family man, but I think you're comparing apples and some other fruit that nobody's ever heard of.

The difference between this and, say, Newt Gingrich is that Newt's party didn't just claim to be family oriented, but a huge part of their platform was discussing how the world was going to shiat because of the failure of marriages. Everything they do, like stoppin' gays from doing it, is done to protect the sanctity of marriage.

Yeah, should this be true, it is terrible and I feel bad for his wife. But I don't think he is some sort of hypocrite, on par with someone actively legislating against teh homoz while blowing off aides in the congressional bathrooms.

It's not just that he did this while his wife is battling cancer. She's in rough shape. But, instead of laying on a beach in St. Tropez, or wandering through Renaissance churches in Italy, or taking a cruise through the Orient--she spent one of the last years of her life getting up at 4am to smile and wave at people in Buttfark, Iowa--all in the name of furthering his sorry ass career. Instead of worshiping the ground she walks on until she finally slips away, and honoring her for this huge sacrifice she's made for him-he steps out on her, fathers a child, and humiliates her in front of her friends, her family-the world. What could be more devastating?

That's a character flaw that's in a whole different universe than anything Larry Craig ever did, IMHO....

Is it a political issue? Not so much. Only because Edwards never tried to pass legislation against cheating on your wife. The difference here is how a lot of the Republicans we've caught with their pants down have done exactly that. Pushed anti-gay legislation while they tried to have cyber sex with their male teenage assistants or tried getting a BJ in the airport men's room.

I think the issue here is that John Edwards is just a complete douchebag. Cheating on your wife is bad enough, but doing it while she has cancer and is still out supporting you? Wow. That's hall of fame douchery right there.

It's a good point, assuming he doesn't have an understanding with his wife.

And assuming it is true, of course.
