Someday we'll learn to play Chinese politics. Someday.

For now we'll just have to get tossed around like a political ragdoll.

Wait, is this the same House of Reps that just passed the latest FISA bill? What a bunch of hypocritical assholes.

Nestea Plunge: Eff China. That's all I have to say about that.

There is an alternative. The nationalist government that used to rule china was defeated by the communists after WWII and now resides on Taiwan, which as you may know is a democracy. Write your congressman to suport the reinvasion of the mainland by Taiwan and make China a democracy.

That should end well

As soon as this Olympics thing is over we need to liberate those assholes.

Liberate 'em real good.

Nestea Plunge: Nah, Taiwan should be free, and mainland China should learn what it means to pay the piper in about 30 years. When they run out of fertile females.

I almost wonder if that's why we borrow from them so freely; those with the money figure they'll never have to pay it back when China implodes.

Of course, relying on that is retarded fiscal policy. But our fiscal policy has been retarded for a while now.

Andric 2008-07-31 04:45:13 PM
Maybe China sabotaged it by having a shiatty Human Rights record.

I know I won't be watching the Olympics. So solly, assholes!

The resolution had a brief postscript:

We're condemning you and everything, but keep sending those cargo containers full of consumer products, Most Favored Nation. Seriously. Just don't go Commie like Cuba, else it'll be Embargo City, and we'll be the mayor.

Ah yes. One boy. Raised by two parents and four grand-parents, with lots of aunts and uncles but no siblings and minimal cousin interference. What could possibly go wrong?

Oh yeah. A generation of fat prima-donnas that expect the world to be handed to them on a plate.

I'm going to watch the Olympics for the sole purpose of seeing how long it takes for the coverage to abruptly have "technical difficulties" or go to an awkwardly timed commercial break.

You must admit that when it comes to evil intentions, China is an expert.

If anyone knows what an evil intention is, China would certainly know.

Agreed. I'm all stocked up in popcorn, and looking forward to the opening ceremonies.

This is actually a token gesture poised to show that we could mean business, all while delicately managing not to offend the Chinese in the interest of trade. This means nothing, liberals, it is non-binding, and was very likely coerced by some of the more stubborn left-leaning career politicians in the Senate. This is a non-story, really.

I_Love_Cheesecake 2008-07-31 05:14:10 PM
So, who was the sole House representative to vote against the resolution?

Rapmaster2000 2008-07-31 05:15:58 PM
I have to interface with our Chinese office. It's interesting the outright cultural arrogance some of them have although I'm sure we appear the same way at times.

One thing that's interesting though is that they don't understand why I'm not culturally arrogant. I guess they told them in school that we were all like that.

So one of the guys tells me that he learned in school that it is proper to call Southerners "rednecks" and to call Northerners "yankees." I corrected him, but I was seriously tempted to not correct him just to see the look on my boss's face when he say "hello redneck!"

I_Love_Cheesecake: So, who was the sole House representative to vote against the resolution?

I'm not usually one to toot his horn, but he's right on the money with this one.

"Madam Speaker, I rise in opposition to this resolution, which is yet another meaningless but provocative condemnation of China . It is this kind of jingoism that has led to such a low opinion of the United States abroad. Certainly I do not condone human rights abuses, wherever they may occur, but as Members of the US House of Representatives we have no authority over the Chinese government. It is our Constitutional responsibility to deal with abuses in our own country or those created abroad by our own foreign policies. Yet we are not debating a bill to close Guantanamo , where abuses have been documented. We are not debating a bill to withdraw from Iraq , where scores of innocents have been killed, injured, and abused due to our unprovoked attack on that country. We are not debating a bill to reverse the odious FISA bill passed recently which will result in extreme abuses of Americans by gutting the Fourth Amendment.

Instead of addressing these and scores of other pressing issues over which we do have authority, we prefer to spend our time criticizing a foreign government over which we have no authority and foreign domestic problems about which we have very little accurate information.

I do find it ironic that this resolution "calls on the Government of the People's Republic of China to begin earnest negotiations, without preconditions, directly with His Holiness the Dalai Lama or his representatives." For years US policy has been that no meeting or negotiation could take place with Iran until certain preconditions are met by Iran . Among these is a demand that Iran cease uranium enrichment, which Iran has the right to do under the terms of the Non-Proliferation Treaty. It is little wonder why some claim that resolutions like this are hypocritical.

Instead of lecturing China, where I have no doubt there are problems as there are everywhere, I would suggest that we turn our attention to the very real threats in a United States where our civil liberties and human rights are being eroded on a steady basis. The Bible cautions against pointing out the speck in a neighbor's eye while ignoring the log in one's own. I suggest we contemplate this sound advice before bringing up such ill-conceived resolutions in the future."

LOL. You sir are a funny man. How do you do it? You just keep on hitting them with the dopest and freshest trolls, day in day out, your profile, yet another example of your dedication to the black troll arts. Bravo. You should be a writer for the Colbert report.

Truthfully, I have no idea of what you're talking about, sir. These postings are warnings directed at the liberals of the Fark community that their little dance in the hat bushel is over, that finally, with the advent of a McCain Presidency, the necessary tightening of society is going to happen. Yes, Bush and Cheney set the stage for these sweeping changes, but wisely opted out of justifying an extension of their current terms by enacting the necessary backdrop for the action McCain will be taking. If anything, we will be working more closely with the Chinese, perhaps even outsourcing some of our interrogation techniques to be used on domestic persons of interest. The War on Terror will be fought here at home in the next few years, I assure you.

Suprised? When there's only one dissenting vote you can always tell who it is.

He's one of the only voices in the House that stands for non-interventionism. It's quite sad that most people don't understand/believe/realize what a good thing non-intervention means.

China feels they have us by the balls, but they DO have some surprises coming. They are still cocky that they feel they control us with all our goods being made there.

Their national shame is exposed that they were unable to clean up in terms of their environment and political decorum.

I predicted before and I still predict now that something will happen at the olympics that will give a national shame and disgust about China. An athlete will wear a FREE TIBET T shirt to the field and get shot dead by China security forces. On live TV. And then China will clainm it to be justified.

At that point, the worldwide disgust will be so great that it will become the fashion and xenophobia will boil over. We had our pets poisoned by their adulterated food, had recalls galore from their shoddy merchandise trucked in.

Made in China will become a bad word and companies that stock from China will discover their business lost It will become literalyl a national movement.

America WILL hurt, economically. But America WILL survive because of inhouse manufacturing, home manufacturing. We will see a return of individualness and ruggedness.

China will suffer FAR worse since all their fortunes are tied up in exports. Cut off their export lines and you destroy them as a country....
