Their argument isn't even remotely related to socialism. I was expecting some drivel about getting welfare handouts from santa, but it wasn't even that coherent. Apparently not getting gifts from your parents is somehow socialist? Isn't that the very opposite of socialism? Self-reliance and reward based on merit?

helping others yourself = charity
making it a law to "help" others through tax dollars = socialism

I'm really enjoying listening to the raving, lunatic right-wing floundering so desperately to do anything they can to preserve their hate-filled, idiot agenda, and yet it still disintegrates before their eyes. In any decent society these morons would have to work for a living.

It's better than being Religious and getting all your ideas from God.

Yeah, this is not even a stretch. It's a mangled mess of FAIL.

And as far a the birthday thing goes, good for the Obamas! They're showing a bit more restraint and balance than alot of other parents these days. "Our gift to you is a party for you and your friends."

As long as they have a sympathetic audience, it's easier for the them to pretend they're not gibbering lunatics.

So let me get this straight:

Every goddamn year, we have to hear the right-wing nutjobs and the folks at Fox News about the commercialization and all-out "war" on Christmas.

The Obamas celebrate Christmas without all the commercial crap, and now they're socialists.

OK, TERRIFIC.

Well, duh. Not increasing the commercialism associated with holidays has an adverse effect on the economy. With more of this sort of thing, we are going to see industry giants like Hallmark and catalog chain stores flounder. Think, man. Think.

We have to spend our way out of this recession, and this sort of behavior cannot be tolerated.

I find it amusing that people get all up in arms about "socialism". Rarely do I see folks complain about the socialism involved in providing citizens with police departments, fire departments, libraries, public parks, roads, schools, etc. (OK. Plenty of people complain about public schools, but that's usually due to the quality of education, not the fact of their existence.)

Should all of these things be privatized?

"They're going to wind up on a bell tower someday if we don't send them presents"? Really?

Yes, let's send them Hannity's book, and Coulter's and O'rly's while we're at it.

After all, a bell tower is no place for a homicidal maniac; a Unitarian church, however, is the perfect location.

Go die, neo-cons.

Did anyone else click on the video on the right hand side.

Fox News didn't report the George Mason University study that showed (using actual comments, tallied up for both candidates) that Obama was getting more negative press. They ran with the Gallup poll of what people perceived. So they were able to say (quickly) that people said Obama was treated more fairly.

Without pointing out that he wasn't. In that part of reality that exists in a realm we Liberals like to call "reality".

This would be like...

...I don't know...

...it would be like drowning in a vat of cow manure, but having five of your friends say you're usually a dry individual. And then having Sean Hannity ask why you're screaming so much when people obviously think you're not drowning in cow shiat.

Where do they get their content ideas, in L. Ron Hubbard's "Dianetics" or the National Enquir-

Gallagher referred to a July 23 interview in People magazine with the Obamas, saying, "I mean, Sean, did you notice in the big cover story in People magazine this week? It was revealed that the Obamas don't believe in giving their children Christmas presents or birthday gifts," adding, "[W]e've been looking for proof that they're socialists. There it is. There's proof positive this is a socialist family.

"Proof"? I don't even know what the hell you're talking about, bub.

"[T]hey're going to wind up on a bell tower someday if we don't send them presents."

LOL, his kids are going to be psychotic murderers!

Stay classy, conservatives.

RussianPooper: Is it just me, or are people appearing more and more in settings intended to be actual news looking like people who appear on fake news programs or websites?

I saw Megyn Kelley interviewing Obama's economic guy. He's a bit more to the right than Obama and pretty on the ball. She just kept asking why he wanted to take from the rich and give to the poor. Even referencing Robin Hood in there.

I think they saw Colbert has ratings and think he's got some solid ideas.

/It also explains why they are completely unfunny

Dr Dreidel 2008-07-31 01:55:07 PM
FTA: On the July 29 edition of Fox News' Hannity & Colmes, radio host Mike Gallagher falsely asserted that Sen. Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, do not give Christmas and birthday presents to their daughters, and as a result of that, the Obamas' children "are going to have a lifetime of therapy" and are "going to wind up on a bell tower someday if we don't send them presents."

So Jews and Witnesses end up in bell towers too?

// never celebrated Christmas until my Baptist girlfriend dragged me along. Meh.
// haven't gotten a birthday present from my folks in years
// why yes, I do like my parents
// I swear that I don't have a gun

Which he didn't.

I love hearing how any type of "socialized" program is bad. Like socialized medicine. If, however, you call it public, it seems to be much more pleasant and acceptable. Like public education. We wouldn't want to call it public medicine or socialized education now would we?

I don't mind because I like my elected politicians from Texas, they shiat butterflys and rainbows.

Yep. I'm one of those people that doesn't really care about money or "stuff" as long as I have enough to be comfortable and secure. I honestly don't care about making a lot of money, and would rather just do a job I enjoy. When I tell people this, most of them look at me funny like there's something wrong with me. And I'm not even a giant socialist or anything...I support a mixed system with elements of socialism and free market capitalism.

FTFY. It all comes down to that Republicans support socialism when it's for something they agree with, and don't support it when they don't. Doesn't stop them from dishonestly decrying socialism on principle when it's for something they don't agree with.

Yep, way to keep the kids out of it. I was building a system and actually watched some Hannity last night. Honestly, they should be on every channel 24/7. Get them out in the open, its awesome.

If you got a war going on, a fukked up economy, health care crisis, ect and you spend you time bashing Obama for rap music and sliding in JUST as much hints of racism as you can, you are full of fail.

So what you really should be debating is what is an "appropriate function of government", and what isn't, instead of going after "socialism". Otherwise you're just engaging in sophistry.
