Funny song, but I hate when this happens. Obama obviously has to denounce the lyrics, I hope there's a *wink wink* under the table like the one I'm sure Gen Clark got after the "getting shot down doesn't qualify you to be president" line.

SeismicJizzer 2008-07-30 10:36:05 PM

3..2..1.. until someone talks about how this is going to make whites less likely to vote for him.

Listen, if you're not black and this is part of the reason you weren't going to vote for him you just need to look in the mirror and admit that it's because of the color of the skin, not because of the content of his character.

ragekage [TotalFark] 2008-07-30 10:40:54 PM
Wait a minute- did the lyrics encourage black people to get out and vote?

Hoo boy. If there's anything Republicans hate more than that...

did you see Maddow give him the big smackdown this afternoon? it was so good msnbc edited it out of their online videos of the show. I guess to save Pat the embarrassment (she has the audio on her podcast)

and when is McCain going to answer for Pat Buchanan's statements?
Especially the one about we shouldn't have fought WWII and coexisted with the Nazis. He's one of McCain's people isn't he?

Ummm, when it comes to rappers discussing presidential politics, I've gotta go with Nas over Ludacris:

What's the black pres. thinkin' on election night
Is it how can I protect my life?
Protect my wife?
Protect my rights?
Every other president was nothin' less than white
Except Thomas Jefferson and mixed Indian blood
and Calvin coolers
KKK is like 'what the fark', loadin' they guns up
loadin' mine too, Ready to ride
Cause im ridin with my crew
He dies - we die too
But on a positive side,
I think Obama provides Hope - and challenges minds
Of all races and colors to erase the hate
And try and love one another, so many political snakes
We in need of a break
Im thinkin' I can trust this brotha
But will he keep it way real?
Every innocent nubian in jail - gets out on appeal
When he wins - will he really care still?
I feel . . .

Ludacris: "Hillary hated on you, so that biatch is irrelevant." [as a VP candidate]

Washington Post: In the next line, the three-time Grammy Award winner calls Clinton an "irrelevant [expletive for a female dog]."

Hell, I'm a white McCain supporter (but not because he is white,) and even I think Luda is being thrown under a bus here.

no. the two times I saw them talk about it, David Gregory threw it to commercial before Maddow got to weigh in. But I saw her brow furrow like "what did he just say?" on the split screen.

The right-wingers on the radio in Boston (Severn and McPhee) both had a piece on this song tonight. "An outrage!" both said. Silly bastards.

yeah he gives Buchanan more time than all the others put together.
Rachael got to speak maybe 2 minutes the entire show.

I hate rap, but I find very little to freak out about in this song. Granted, I suppose Obama can't be seen jammin' to any song calling Hillary a biatch or saying McCain should be in a wheelchair.

Croooow! 2008-07-30 11:05:39 PM
As a listener of hip-hop, I would like to point out that, when you set aside all the political topics and the very timely message, this is a really awful song.

Ah, remember when Eminem did an anti-Bush song in 2004? And when Kerry lost all he could say was "If I had released it a little sooner, then Kerry would have won."

Yes, it's all about you and your crappy song, you egomaniac.

It's always fun to watch Republicans rail against political correctness, then turn around and be such whiny biatches over even the most slightly inappropriate thing if they don't like it. How many pundits will wail with false outrage and demand Obama condemn, repudiate, denounce, and renounce Ludicrus (while then also snarkily talking about him "throwing him under the bus?")

They can dish it out, but damn, they sure as hell can't take it.

So if we talk about his middle name we're racist.

If we mention Rev. Wright...we're racist.

If we take offense to a rap song in which whites are lampooned and heads of state are insulted and wished to be crippled.....WE'RE racist?

No, if you're using this song or his middle/last name as an excuse to not vote for Obama, you're most likely racist.

Mentioning a lot of shiat that has nothing to do with the candidate to justify your opposition to said candidate (he's a muuuuuslim!) labels you as someone not using logic to make your decision. It doesn't only mean you are racist. You could be:

A. Willfully ignorant
B. Blinded by party worship
C. The Result of generations of inbreeding
D. Rabidly anti-populist
E. Racist but afraid to just say it (at least the KKK has the balls to be honest about it)

All of the above probably works well too.

Criticize the man for lack of experience or his voting record not what his mailman said about white people or his scary (to idiots) middle name.

Obama has embraced the Hip hop vote and supporters so he has to deal with what comes along with it. I am surprised that more flack hasn't come from a bunch of fake and ex criminals rallying around the guy.
