The Forty-First President: "You want an ass whipping?"
The Forty-Third President: "Try it old man"

This movie has the best damn teaser poster ever:
upload.wikimedia.org

That looks terrific. I can't wait for the scene where George H.W. Bush shoots Kevin Spacey.

Donald_McRonald 2008-07-27 08:49:45 PM
These people look nothing like the people they're portraying. They couldn't even get Barbara Bush's old-lady 'fro right.

galumph200 2008-07-27 08:50:17 PM
Has Oliver Stone become a post-9/11 Republican and not told anyone?
Cause that trailer sure didn't look like a what I would have expected from the Oliver Stone of the 80s or 90s.

Wraithbane 2008-07-27 08:51:20 PM
Bush was born a Kennedy?

Nabb1 [TotalFark] 2008-07-27 08:54:16 PM
I think this movie will be a perfect summation of the Bush presidency: Too long, fails to live up to the hype, doesn't really accomplish what it sets out to do and is patently un-entertaining, but nowhere as bad as some people would have you believe.

Ace Frehley's Ghost 2008-07-27 08:54:31 PM
Wraithbane: Bush was born a Kennedy?

May as well have been.

Except that I don't think that any of the Kennedys ever tried a coup d'etat against FDR.

The CIA got to him. How do you think he keeps getting out of all those drug busts?

Seit_N_Zounde [TotalFark] 2008-07-27 08:56:17 PM
Wow, it seem to make him look better somehow. I thought that would be the direct opposite of what Stone was trying to do.

Slightly different family up the street, but more or less.

Wow, they did a terrible job of finding suitable actors. It looks like their casting pool was about the size of a high school drama club and they just made do with whatever hair and make-up they could scrounge up.

/movie looks stupid, too
//way to finally make a movie about an outgoing president. woo friggin hoo.

I don't know... the guy playing Rove looks sufficiently douchey.

The only thing I can think of is that the trailer is a bait and switch to lure in people who normally wouldn't want such a level of Bush-bashing, if there are people like that out there.

Richard Dryfuss as Cheney is pretty good.
Cromwell as HW Bush is perfect.

The guy playing Rumsfeld is a horrible casting choice though.

Since when do the actors who portray a real-life person have to look exactly like the person they are portraying? Isn't it much more important to find people who look somewhat similar but can act well and capture the essence of that person's mannerisms/personality?

Example:

True, it's actually worse, because I'm sure there is a stockpile of corruption, lies, deceit, and treachery involving a whole host of people in the Bush administration and different events that we don't even know about.

I agree 100%. But oddly, to this day, I've never understood why Republicans think Politics should be entertaining -- as I swear, I've met more than a few that seem to think this a valid prerequisite for the office of President.

THIS.

// Was really hoping that it would be good, and "Holy Jebus" I look more like Bush (1 and 2) then the actors do?
// Might watch it in a couple months on HBO when it comes to cable.

Live up to the hype? What planet are you living on? Will Ferrell was setting the capitol building on fire as Candidate Bush on SNL in 2000. Hype? That's funny. Really.

An tSaoi 2008-07-27 09:56:19 PM
I like the fact that they're hiring actors, not lookalikes, and I realise that it's the mannerisms not the look that really matters. That being said some of those people are very little like their characters. It can be quite jarring. As good an actor as Anthony Hopkins is, he couldn't really pass for Nixon. But that was years ago. Surely with all the advancements in makeup and computer stuff they could alter the actors to more closely resemble them?

Or they could hire people who are near dead ringers as it is (see Robert Downey Jr. in Chaplin. You think you were watching the real Charlie Chaplin, at least when he was in the tramp makeup. Dunno what Chaplin looked like out of character).

Another steaming pile of sh*t from Oliver Stone. Although JFK is a great substitute for a sleeping pill.

And you can clearly see his head goes back and to the left.

Wow, is this gonna piss off the Fox Newsies.

It's THEIR job to portray partisan opinion as fact, dammit!

They'll throw their little tantrums the week this comes out, knowing the whole time that what they do on a daily basis is far, far worse.

At least Oliver Stone isn't calling it "news" or a "documentary".

I'm not sure I've ever seen a Stone movie I enjoyed besides Natural Born Killers. And I don't think this will be as good as That's My Bush. They had to be pussies and cancel it after 9/11. . . like he got better.

'Platoon', 'Wall Street', 'Born On the Fourth of July'... if you haven't seen any of those, then I suggest you do. Even 'Any Given Sunday', 'Salvador', and 'The Doors' are worth watching. He's done some shiat recently, but you gotta realize he did movies before 1995 too, and they were a lot better than what he does this days.

Man I hope there's a lot of sword fighting in this movie. Maybe some monkeys sword fighting.

By the way, Full Metal Jacket blew Apocalypse Now out of the water.
