That's nothing - according to this, it's the retired folks that are sending the most money to McCain.

His single largest contributor is still citygroup, to the tune of $251,551.

In overall numbers, McCain is still far behind Obama. Obama still has the lowest debt load, and continues to outspend McCain almost 2:1. McCain did see a large spike in contributions in June, but as yet has been unable to allocate funding in any realistically effective manner to stop the Obama pain train.

Howie Spankowitz [TotalFark] 2008-07-27 01:55:25 PM
This will not affect his policy positions at all in much the same way that the 12-day old house chicken from Pick Up Stix I found in the back of my fridge and ate cold last night had nothing to do with the buttocks-blistering diarrhea I experienced this morning.

Weaver95 [TotalFark] 2008-07-27 02:01:41 PM
What's particularly disturbing about all of this is that most of the 'big money' donations are going to McCain. That's a lot of heavy hitters going all out for the guy. And that sort of influence goes beyond mere fund raising number amounts.

At any rate, Obama has continued to raise more fundage than McCain. should trends continue, he should be well placed for the general campaign.

Mordant [TotalFark] 2008-07-27 02:08:19 PM
Obama should be well placed in Gitmo for the general campaign, he's a mooslim flip flopper and America and her oil companies need real leadership right now.

Interesting post, until the final paragraph:

"I'm sure this is all that the media will be talking about this week. McCain's craven flip flop just to get financial support from oil men. Right??? Right???"

Oh COME ON. Now the media has a conservative bias? Does any group of people out there actually like what the media puts out there?

Ah, I should have put...This table lists the top donors to this candidate in the 2008 election cycle. The organizations themselves did not donate , rather the money came from the organization's PAC, its individual members or employees or owners, and those individuals' immediate families. Organization totals include subsidiaries and affiliates.

Or, you know, you could just follow the link I provided above.

That site has a lot of good, solid info. From a money perspective, McCain is getting his ass kicked. Granted, it is a bit early to really worry about fundraising but he should be doing much better than he has been to this point. And from the numbers it's also glaringly apparent that McCain is in deep with lawyers and the elderly. So don't look for meaningful tort reform or social security fixes. In light of that data McCain's newfound dedication to raising payroll taxes for Social Security makes much more sense.

Just listing some mutual contributors these guys have. It seems that any group who donates to both McCain and Obama donates more to Obama than MCain. In some cases five times as much.

Also, why has the US Government donated over $96k to McCain but nothing to Obama? Is there something Bush and his cronies are trying to tell us?

When the "US government" or the "University of California" is listed as making campaign donations, what it really means is that employees are making campaign donations. Unsurprisingly, UC employees tend to favor Obama, and employees of the recently-politicized federal executive agencies tend to favor Bush.

God. Are you serious? Are you serious? I mean, I take my DailyKos with a large grain of salt, but if this is why McCain has been touting "clean" coal, and now offshore drilling, I am no longer just annoyed by the man, I am disgusted.

Before, I liked him. I thought that he was a decent, moderate, conservative senator who had earned much respect by fighting in Vietnam and surviving as a POW. But this election has shown me that he is just dumb. Unethical, unintelligent, and complety unelectable.

God, the fact that this election is as close as it is makes me want to move to Europe. Any euro farkers wanna adopt me?
