No, because if that was so then the TSA would have responded with facts. See the difference?

"What is the basis of this sudden recognition that Drew Griffin is a terrorist? Are we targeting people because of their critique or criticism?"

Yes, of course we do. I'm sorry, I thought everyone knew that.

Look for more stories like this. At least until someone starts shutting down politically dissident websites.

This is the kind of thing that amuses me when I read the 2nd Amendment blowhards freak out because they can't buy a machine gun. They run around throwing out words like "oppression" "tyranny" and an "unjust government" and act like they are the last line of defense that is protecting us from just such a government. Little do they realize the big brother government they are so scared of is already here.

The look on Chertoff's face when the Congressional hearing asked him about this was priceless. He looked like he shait himself.

Our govt. has hit epic fail when people fear the government more than they fear terrorists.

This is what happens when you politicize the whole of the government and insulate government workers from all consequences for their behavior. Idiot bureaucrats start using the unwarranted power they've been handed to carry out personal agendas.

The TSA is an organization that exists almost soley to give the illusion of security. I'm 100% behind the idea of armed pilots and federal air marshalls, but you ask me to take off my shoes and give up my soda on the way to the plane? Screw you hippies. For 70 years people were flying with pocket knives without getting in trouble.

And if you point out the corruption, greed and incompetency, you end up on the terrorist watch list.

No, because they have to sustain the illusion of freedom, and they can't do that by throwing every Tom, Dick and Harry who utters a bad word into a jail cell or dungeon. You can speak all you like and it wont ever bring down a government, but the moment you start actuall... hang on, someone's at the door.

In fact, we might be safer if people were still allowed to have knives on planes. Right now, if a terrorist actually succeeded at getting a weapon past the TSA (probably very easy), then they would be the only one on the plane that's armed. If everyone had knives again, it would even the odds a bit more.

But yeah, the TSA is all about making people feel the like the politicians are doing something about terrorism. Not about actual security.

Whoops, I guess I'm going to put on the TSA watchlist now.

I made a trip from Dallas to Lubbock about a year ago. I had my SW knife on my key chain (one of those simple ones with scissors a screwdriver head, and two blades) and didn't even realize it. I went through security at Love field no problem, didn't even notice the knife. I could've hijacked the plane and crashed it into the Lubbock...well there's nothing in Lubbock. But on the way home, one of the security guards there (not TSA) saw the knife immediately and told me to go throw it in my check-in bag so I wouldn't lose it. I thanked him and he told me if he thought I was gonna hijack a plane, I would do it with something more than a letter opener.

/Also had some military drop-out point his shaking M4 at me in security because I forgot a bullet from hunting in my backpack and TSA went crazy
//What was I gonna do? Hit it with a hammer and hope the plane blows up?

I want public show trials of every TSA employee. The guilty (all of them) will be turned loose naked downtown in the middle of a workday with a sign around their necks that reads, "I'm from TSA and I stole all your shiate!" Free baseball bats will be handed out to the populace.

I've heard many similar stories from friends who also got knives and such through the TSA purely by accident. It doesn't exactly inspire confidence in the TSA's ability to keep weapons off of planes. Like I said, I think we would be better off just letting people have pocket knives on planes, since it's obvious that the TSA can't even come close to stopping people from bringing them on.

There's a huge difference. The Dems are too authoritarian for my tastes too, but the Rethugs are in a whole 'nother league. The Dems have some authoritarian aspects, but the Republicans are now an all-out Christian Nationalist authoritarian party.

Where is the citizen oversight for the TSA? Cops have to explain themselves to an arm's length organization after they shoot someone.

Anyone remember the article in USA today a few years ago, when a pilot was going through security, and the tsa agent opened the pilot's bag for a secondary search? The pilot asked, "What are you doing (in a nice way)?" The tsa agent said, "I just want to make sure you don't have anything that you can use to take over the plane." "But I'm a PILOT."

And that's the way it is folks. The gate tsa agents are the burger flippers of airline security.
