The next step is to offer a shot of insulin in your double mocha frappe latte.

I went into a McDonalds in Harlem last week and they had the calorie counts up on the menu board. It was surprisingly simple and clear the way they had it set up - calorie counts in an oval with a different color background so you could easily tune them out. As far as regulations go for stuff like this, I like ones that take the tack of informing and letting the buyer make up their own mind.

At $23.20 this would possibly be the world's most expensive beverage. Who drinks these things? I'm not sure I want to know.

Why only huge chains? Because small coffee shops don't load up their fraps with sugar, whipped cream and syrup, too?

Probably because their regular coffee is so horribly burned that a person drinking it black must be missing an important nerve connection between his mouth and brain.

this isn't a perfect world. the minimum wage workers may have dumped a ton of salt on the french fries and the burger came off a grill so greasy the burger cooked without touching it. even in a wonderful restaurant you don't know if you are getting the correct portion size. eat at home if you need to count calories since you know what is going on your plate.

Submitter, your numbers are way off, here comes the science.

3500 calories == 1 lb of fat,

So, assuming the drink consisted of 100% warmed up fat, it would have to weigh almost half a pound (~.46 lbs) to equal 1595 calories.

/obviously, they're not pouring a half pound of fat into a cup for people to drink

/I don't drink coffee, so I don't know how much a 'venti' is (I know venti is 20, so is that 20 oz?) , but a 12 oz "double tall vanilla latte" is 190 calories based on my Google search. So to get to 1595 calories, you would need to drink ~8.39 (~101 ounces, 0.789 gallons).

Starbucks coffee isn't even that GOOD. Even if it weren't sickeningly expensive... I still wouldn't drink it. The beans are so disgustingly burnt.

I honestly believe that if starbucks didn't have the whole pretentious yuppie image, they would have been out of business in less than a year. their coffee is awful

If you were only selling coffee (straight coffee only, nothing special), sheer volume and lack of other expenses would help drive prices down.

I just wanna point something out, since you mentioned double espresso.

One fluid ounce of espresso contains 75 mg of caffeine
One fluid ounce of black coffee contains 20mg of caffeine

One grande latte contains 16 ounces of liquid, two ounces being the double shots of espresso.
One grande cup of black coffee contains 16 ounces of liquid, 16 ounces of which is pure black coffee

One grande latte has approximately 150 mg of caffeine total, the rest is milk and flavorings
One grande cup of black coffee has approximately 320 mg of caffeine.

In order to get the equivalent amount of caffeine, you need to have just over 4 shots of espresso in a grande drink to equal one grande cup of coffee.

The lesson being- The next time someone thinks an espresso shot is equivalent to a cup of coffee, they deserve a little smack upside the head.

Impressive.

It is a Litre, which is a pretty large drink to begin with. It's basically the equivalent of eating an entire container of ice cream. (ice cream is usually 1/4 c servings, so another way to think of it is 16 consecutive servings of ice cream.)

Did you notice how the first ingredient is "reduced fat milk"? I wonder why they'd bother.

I'm just glad I don't like sugary drinks. However, if you order one of these things and it has different syrups and whipped cream don't come crying because it's making you fat. Duhhhr.

I know it's crazy but people need to be aware of what they're putting in their bodies (if they care that much).

Iced Caramel Swirl Latte - 280 calories
Iced Caramel Swirl Latte with Skim Milk - 180 calories

Not sure if either include whipped creme, but eliminating it reduces the calories considerably. Whipped creme would add 80 calories to my fav drink.
