It hovers around 110F when I go jogging - at nine pm.

/but it's a dry heat

Majick Thise [TotalFark] 2008-07-26 04:26:39 PM
It's only been up to about 96 here in central Indiana this year.

But it's a wet heat.. a wet nasty sticky humid life-sucking heat that will melt your soul

I just got back from Phoenix last week when it hit 112°. Fun times.

GLOBAL WARMING!!! OH NOES!!!

swahnhennessy 2008-07-26 06:37:16 PM
That's about what it is up here in northern Sweden. It's pretty hot. And that's coming from a guy who has lived in New Orleans. Your body acclimates itself, though. 85 here feels a lot warmer than it would in, say, Kansas.

Mr_Juche 2008-07-26 06:37:42 PM
I always thought it was crazy when my buddy in Thailand would post pictures of him out at a bar at night. He and his friends were all wearing sweaters because it got down to 90o.

beoswulf 2008-07-26 06:39:30 PM
84 degrees in Phoenix means the air conditioning is on, an amenity a muggy, sweaty, stinky London often lacks.

I went to Sao Paulo last year during their 'Winter'. It was something like 65 (real degrees, not that ghey celsius crap), and parents were bundling up their kids like they were going out in an Arctic storm. Funny stuff for a Michigan boy...

ubermensch 2008-07-26 06:40:52 PM
To be fair, that's 183.2F. I know I'd consider that hot.

Redscum 2008-07-26 06:42:44 PM
That may not be hot where you live, but nobody here has air conditioning.

I drove to Phoenix last summer at night, got there at four in the morning. I stepped out of my car and it was HOT.

My friends bragged about their 600 dollar rent for a three bedroom apartment, then I saw their 500 dollar utility bill and laughed at them. Hey, if you want to live in hell, be my farking guest.

This has been the coolest summer in Phoenix that I can recall, and I've spent many summers here.

Don't think it's even cracked 113 yet... let alone 118.

In fact we're /setting/ our A/C to 84º, because it's nice and cool. Outside? 100º

wait...84? I need a jacket and pants for that being the high.

tkir 2008-07-26 06:48:35 PM
Oh I miss Vegas, although I'd go jogging at 1am since the temp would drop to 90F. Dry heat helps since you don't sweat either, until you get back into a nice cool airconned house and within 2 minutes you're covered in sweat.

Mind, the summer here in the UK has been crap (I missed the floods last year) especially when you consider that we'd always been having heatwaves and hosepipe bans since the early 90's.

E.S.Q. 2008-07-26 06:48:43 PM
beoswulf: 84 degrees in Phoenix means the air conditioning is on, an amenity a muggy, sweaty, stinky London often lacks.

AC doesn't go on until roughly 100 degrees outdoor temp, up to 105 is tolerable with the ceiling fan.

Nogale 2008-07-26 06:50:10 PM
After a week of temps in the mid-90s (for those of you who go by Farenheit), it was only 80-something here (Jerusalem) today, and dry with a cooling breeze...

I want to move back to Tel Aviv but don't think I could handle the summers - hot and 70% humidity.

merc16 2008-07-26 06:50:53 PM
I've heard stories from people who work at the theme parks out here in Southern California that they have problems with British and French babies dying because their parents don't know what to do in our heat and literally let their babies fry in the sun. It's horrible but every story I've heard of this involves French or British babies.

That's odd, I live in Tempe, i keep my AC at 78 during the summer. My bill never breaks $200. Your friends are doing something wrong.

Yes stepping out of your house and feeling the 90 degree heat sucks and this time of year we have some humidity too.
ugh.

Rain in the morning then cloudy all day. Did see a bit of sun after tea... cloudy again this morning

That must the exception. Usually the only time people aren't in air conditioning in Phoenix is when they're going from their air conditioned cars across the parking lot to the air conditioned stores or work. Even the home garages are air conditioned so residents don't have to break a sweat waddling down the drive way into the house.

p00p6 2008-07-26 06:56:30 PM
the adjustment's a biach. After 2 semesters in Colorado Springs, Fort Worth seemed like hell, but now it feels fine.

It's 94 here in Houston right now, but it's a wet heat.

You are insane.

I am outside quite often during the summers and very active as far as running and hiking. They are plenty of us out and about during the day.

But as with any city, there are the loafers and whatnot, I am sure it is the same where you live.

Yep...just checked the thermometer...101 in Arlington.

I moved to TX from California in the spring of '80. Then came the "heatwave" of 100+ days of 100+degrees. OMG! I never heard of heat index until then. Bought a new truck before we left...A/C?..oh no...who needs that additional luxury....mistake.

That summer Europe was having their own heatwave of 80+ degrees and people died of heat stroke.

I am used to the heat now but I still hate it.

A couple of years ago I was in Fort Worth in Sundance Square at 10 PM. It was like 95 degrees. It ain't supposed to be 95 degrees anywhere at 10:00 at night. Hot night in the city indeed.

The wine store where I work is always at 72 and it's "nippy" in here too. Is that why sales go up on hot days?

sombreradoraloca 2008-07-26 07:06:22 PM
What's bad is that it gets so hot that I get used to it, and then when cooler fall weather rolls around I freeze.

Dr._Michael_Hfuhruhurr 2008-07-26 07:06:31 PM
I was in Phoenix last year in August. I went outside the airport for a smoke. It was like walking into a pizza oven.

They don't do daylight savings time, which farked-up my connecting flight.
