10. Def Leppard -- Never into them

9. Carly Simon -- I was only vaguely aware she was still alive.

8. Elton John -- Five years ago I would have agreed but The Captain and the Kid is a huge improvement.

7. The Rolling Stones -- I disagree about their last good album but agree that it was released over 25 years ago. I hear they still put on a great show.

6. Bryan Adams -- He's still making music?

5. Joni Mitchell -- Like many artists, she had a great decade. That decade ended over three decades ago. (Favorites: "Coyote", "Amelia", "Song for Sharon" off Hejira.)

4. Ray Davies -- Again, I was only vaguely aware that he was still making music.

3. The Who -- Who's dead.

2. The Black Crowes -- I liked a couple of their songs in the 1990s but never paid attention after that.

1. Madonna -- I never really liked her in the first place.

Taking out my general thoughts about the artists themselves. This list is the worst thing I've ever seen. With the exception of maybe Def Leppard who is this asshole to say any of these people need to stop making music? Most are legends, still have a huge fan base and still doing what they love.

Worst top 10 list ever.

The Black Crowes never had a prime. They sucked in the beginning, then made a sucky cover, and have sucked ever since.

What a pretentious article. There's no reason for anyone to stop doing something they love and if they've still got fans that love their stuff then more power to them. Sheeesh!

Godscrack [TotalFark] 2008-07-26 12:08:30 PM
They're artists not models. Do you buy a record just to see how cute the artist looks? Oh wait...

Watch CMT videos for awhile. All perfect hair, perfect bodies, perfectly tattered clothes. And all the music sounds like it's being written by one person. One formula.

Yet the artists that inspired them, the real country singers, didn't have videos to promote their art. They had to rely on talent.

I have to disagree about the Black Crows. I wish they would make more music. I love their sound, especially "She Talks To Angels". Absolutely gorgeous, and much better than any of the crap that's out there right now (with the exception of John Legend. MEEEOW!)

That's just plain stupid and I won't waste any further words on such a dipshiat.

This guy is a dumbass. These people are making music because it is what they do. It is their passion. They are known and loved worldwide. That is why they continue to do what they do.

What has this guy done with his life?

Yes, it feels like it was yesterday. Maybe it was. Our lords and masters must have terrible short-term memories to green light this AGAIN, so soon.

Seeing them live is a must for anyone who likes music, quite possibly one of the greatest bands to ever come out of the south.

Wow, I never knew styckx could ever have people agree with him!!!!!

styckx: ... who is this asshole to say any of these people need to stop making music?

My problem is that most of these artist have stopped making music years ago, and are now just a cover bands of their younger selves.

Dear Joni Mitchell and Paul MacCartney -

I've listened to you guys for hours. At one point or another I've had your music on vinyl, 8-track, cassette, CD, MP3, and vinyl again.

One of my favorite memories of kollidge was sitting in a deserted rehearsal building, trying to figure out the chords to "Lady Madonna" on a Steinway Model D that had been foolishly left unlocked.

When "Court and Spark" came out I was a DJ at the campus station. I listened to the demo copy with my GF in the off-air studio and we agreed: this is a perfect album. No tracks of wack.

Nothing has changed my opinion of those albums. But, you know, that was 30 years ago. Over time the indiscretions have mounted up - releasing "Ebony and Ivory" and marrying Larry Klein, for instance - while the good stuff got pretty hard to find.

So it's time to relax. Show up and play unannounced at small clubs. Sit in with younger artists you find interesting. Write a tell-all memoir. Bury the feuds and make peace with your old colleagues before they are all dead.

If you get bored, you can come over to my house. I've got plenty of room if you get wasted.

Just stop making albums. Please. Rock is like basketball - it's a young man's game at the pro level. Watching old folks do it is just sad.

Your friend,

The Old Man Down The Road (hi de hi de hi)

Since when is Neil Diamond rock?

Add Crosby Stills, Nash & Young, to honor this Déjà Vu moment.

I've got a few others, but I'm saving them for when this article gets greenlit for the third time.

Fark this guy in the ass. There are people and bands out their right now making shiattier music than most of the people on his list.

This guy should DIAF. I hope 30 years from now he gets put on a list of the top 10 hack writers who need to stop writing hack articles.

1. Axl Rose
2. The Dead
3. The Allman Brothers Band
4. Santana
5. Eric Clapton
6. Blues Traveler
7. Journey
8. The Wailers
9. Tom Petty
10. Bob Dylan

Beat that.

10. KISS
9. Prince
8. Madonna
7. Metalica
6. Dylan
5. KISS
4. KISS
3. KISS
2. KISS
1. KISS

I mean - why shouldn't KISS be most of the top 10? Their one "hit" has two lines repeated over and over and over... which given their age now is really REALLY lame. That being said, having watched GSFJ, I have to admit that his kids turned out great - they both come off as smart and more or less unfazed with the environment they had to have had growing up. Far better than Ozzy's kids.

I saw this on MSNBC's site the other day, and the article is a blatant trolling attempt.

You guys should see their discussion board about it - butthurt and whining all over the place!

All Apologies 2008-07-27 11:12:27 PM
The Black Crowes rock, they are another band still releasing good albums, they just don't get any mainstream attention anymore.

It was hard to imagine that band ever being on MTV, but there was a day when MTV was more than Hip Hop and bubble gum pop.

The author should made my top ten list of people who should quit writing.

tarkus1980 [TotalFark] 2008-07-28 12:37:06 AM
Great (I would give a B+ or higher to) Stones albums since Exile (which is an A+) to me:

Goat's Head Soup
Black and Blue
Some Girls
Tattoo You

Very good (B-level) albums in that period:

Voodoo Lounge
Black and Blue

They've done just fine overall, even if they've had some awful songs in that time.
