Awesome. The 3 new songs they had on the Dio Years album were fantastic. I can't wait for this disc.

Heaven and Hell was one of my favorite 8-tracks.

Damn. The Heaven and Hell tour was the first concert I ever saw... in 1978. They were touring with Blue Oyster Cult and it was a Sunday -- "Black and Blue Sunday".

Dio brought Sabbath back from the dead once, I'm anxious to see if he can do it again.

That was 1980. Ozzy was still in the band in 1978.

Oh man, do I have to be the first one here saying something about them being too old for rock and all that?
You're all a bunch of old fogies too lazy to look for new evil rock.
Iommi and Butler just keep embarrassing themselves. Old guys just can't rock, sorry. You look up on stage and all the excitement is gone. This is just a paycheck for them now.

Why do we worship the performers who die young?
Maybe because they never started sucking.

/Pretending Black Sabbath broke up after Sabotage.
//And that there is no such thing as a fourth Stooges album.
///Way too jaded for 22.

idiot.

Yeah, I'm an idiot because I don't like Dio. Sure. I can't stand the guy's voice. Every time I hear a song with Dio in it I start to laugh because I can't believe people think this is heavy. Ride the tiger? I laugh every time I hear that lyric. Even South Park made fun of that song.

I think Dio is one of the most overrated metal singers ever. Give me some Pantera, Slayer, Danzig, original Static X, or Motorhead. Dio seems comical to me. His lyrics combined with his vocals are just too over the top to be taken seriously. The sword and sorcery theme seems contrived and comical when Dio's voice is doing it.

I think Dio sucks, and Black Sabbath without Ozzy isn't really Black Sabbath. I know tons of folks who agree with me.

1978 was the "Never Say Die" tour with Ozzy.
Van Halen opened.

Say what you will about Dio.
He is way over the top and quite a bit corny but he is still a real pro. Ozzy is currently a babbling wreck.
Ozzy may be the original architect but Dio is still going strong.
He is obviously more committed to entertaining and cranking out strong performances.

I recently acquired the utterly superb Rainbow "Live in Munich 1977"
It is stellar.
Blackmore and Dio were in top form.

btw--I have never really cared that much about either Ozzy or Dio's solo recordings.

Nah, he's doing better now that he's off all the painkillers.

Great interview here: Link (new window)

Note it's an eight part video.

PC LOAD LETTER This is why Dio sucks

......you should change that to:

THIS IS WHY BILL WARD RULES!

My friends and I were huge Sabbath fans in high school when Ozzy left the band. We played the crap out of "Heaven and Hell" when it came out, but lost all interest when "Blizzard of Oz" was released.

Ozzy may have issues now, but I always give him credit for reuiniting with Sabbath, the band that booted his butt out, when Iommi/Butler/Ward had nothing and Ozzy sure as hell didn't need them

zappaisfrank [TotalFark] 2008-07-26 12:38:35 PM
Saw both Chicago H&H shows last year, both awesome shows! I also have my ticket for the Metal Masters show in August!

I seem to be one of those rare breeds who likes both the Dio and Ozzy lineups. They lose me when they start getting to the Tony Martin years.

I also have little interest in Dio or Ozzy's solo works. The last Ozzy album I bought was "Ultimate Sin" and I hated it.

zappaisfrank [TotalFark] 2008-07-26 12:40:34 PM
The other thing is that Ozzy's voice is toast. Listen to any bootleg from his last tour and you'll hear that. He can't get through three songs without his voice going to shiat. Iommi and Butler don't want to sit around the rest of their lives because Ozzy is the weak link, so they hook up with Dio and make more music. What's so bad about that?

Caught H&H about eight months ago. Dio had energy, everyone else just seemed tired.

/Alice Cooper dominated that show.

It's not rare at all. Many Sab fans appreciate both, and Ian Gillan too. It's all great.

The hair band era Sabbath is forgettable, though.

Odd considering Dio is the oldest group member by at least five years!

I actually saw them on the tour with Gillan. That stonehendge set was monsterous!

And on that tour, Van Halen blew them off the stage every night, part of why Ozzy got sacked. Or at least that's what wikipedia said.
