(Some Guy) Followup National Enquirer reporters file criminal complaint against hotel security, which means that they are telling the truth, or are filing a false police report. Bonus: Edwards will have to give a statement to police about what happened   (nationalenquirer.com) divider line 64

For everyone who has been saying that this is fake, because there are no other witnesses, no pictures or video, and has not been confirmed by another news source, here is an interview with the security guard who escorted him out confirming everything.

Bonus: Edwards campaign worker says he is disapointed but not surprised.

My current conspiracy theory;
This was a set-up to make sure Edwards won't be in the running for VP.
Any other truly strong VP candidates will also find themselves embroiled in controversy shortly.

Given the number of reporters who supposedly saw this and didn't have their cameras handy, how are people not filing this under the same category as the "whitey" BS?

Headso 2008-07-25 01:10:12 PM
this would have been actually interesting in 2004, or hell, even several months back when he was still running in the primary. But these days who really gives a flying fark about the guy...

JonQDoe: Given the number of reporters who supposedly saw this and didn't have their cameras handy, how are people not filing this under the same category as the "whitey" BS?

More specifically, the Enquirer claims to have sent MANY reporters to the place in advance, and not ONE of them took a single picture even with a cell phone?

Really?

That's your story, Enquirer?

Go back to sighting sasquatch.

The article from Faux News says the Enquirer has turned down their requests for pictures, which indicates that such pictures do exist. They're either holding out for big bucks, or saving them for their print edition.

Ditto, especially one who heads such a powerful committee. How can this distraction not affect his work?

stpickrell 2008-07-25 01:16:28 PM
The photos will come in future editions. If we don't see them in a month, I'm classifying this as 'whitey part two.'

At this point, the WaPo, NYT, networks, and (since this involves a Democrat) the Washington Times are making a few phone calls and doing some research. It may be nothing, or we may see follow-up from the mainstream media a la the Jesse Jackson love child.

And this, fellow Farkers, might be why he ignored his staffers and dropped when he did.

The security guard also says that the reporters had cameras in his face the whole time he was being escorted out, and that Edwards was literally playing tug of war with the reporters with the bathroom door trying to keep them out.

/sounds innocent to me

It would be cool though if it turned out to be "Hey kid stand at the foot of the bed and watch me bukake your mom's face"

Per the original article, she rented two rooms, the child stayed in one room with an adult, while Edwards got his groove on in the other room. Schwiiing.

The reporters charge that not only did one security guard threaten to break their camera but that security also violated several statutes of the California Penal Code, including false imprisonment and preventing a guest from entering land.

The ENQUIRER reporters were registered guests at the hotel, while Edwards was not.

Police recorded the criminal complaint and will turn it over to detectives.

Not only does that sound like a surprisingly legitimate complaint, I'd never known that Enquirer writers had the ability to be that droll. I occasionally pick it up because the craziness is funny, the writing actually being humorous is a new one.

Sweet! I found all of the morally superior Republicans!!! Glad to have you back! Where the FARK have ya'll been for the past eight years or so?

Did you know that we've got a sitting President who authorized torture and warrantless wiretapping, in support of an illegal foreign invasion predicated on propagandistic and known-false intelligence leaks to the press?

I can't wait to see what you do to THAT guy, given how seriously you take the comparatively small potatoes of someone (maybe) cheating on their wife.

Like the repubs did when they ignored that McCain cheated on his first wife with his second after the first was maimed in a car accident?

you know it is possible to find Edwards cheating on his dying wife reprehensable and be a liberal, hell I'm sure that even some of his biggest spporters are mad as hell about this, probably even more so because they are emotionally invested in him and his wife.

There are also many conservative republicans who hate Bush, and are just as, if not more disgusted by Newt's behavior than the liberals.

Actually, the only ones who made a stink about this were the Democrats. These are hardly incidents worth dragging McCain over the carpet over. In comparison, this recent flap concerning Edwards' behavior simply belies his irresponsible playboy attitude, which would have eventually found its way into the White House, even if he were Vice President. This should finally make him take a good look at himself, and he will lay low from here on out if not disappear from politics altogether.

On the level of torture, warrantless wiretapping, or deceiving the American public so that they'll go along with your invasion plans?

Yeah, see, I have a problem believing that. If you take some dude cheating on his wife more seriously than those things I just listed, then I think you have very screwed up priorities. If you don't think that it's more serious, then you sure as hell better demonstrate that by your actions.

You don't get to stay silent for torture, then raise the moral alarm because someone cheated on his wife.

What I am saying is they are not exclusive, you can find both situations reprehensible. Besides, they are completely different because one has to do with public policy while one is a personal story. The only thing they have in common is that they both deal with politicians.

What you are saying is the equivalent of going into an Amy Winehouse thread and complaining that nobody cares about what is happening in Darfur.

So...
Edwards cheating on his wife: Playboy behavior and he should leave politics.

McCain cheating on his wife: Not worth dragging McCain over carpet.

Got it.

Nobody said they were exclusive. What I said was that they are not on the same level of importance. If you get all bent out of shape because some politician cheats on his wife, but don't get bent out of shape when some politician uses the power of his office to authorize torture, that seems to be a distorted perspective bordering on mental illness.

Besides, they are completely different because one has to do with public policy while one is a personal story.

That's my whole point.
