Submitter you headline is nonsensical. Even if carefully parsed it is neither funny nor accurate.

Ca. Gov. Schwarzenegger: Starting Monday federal some State workers will receive the Federal minimum wage of $6.55 an hour. Guy who writes the checks: Uh, no, and help yourself to a nice cup of STFU

This is all BS for show. If it happens, they will receive any lost wages when the budget is passed. Like when the Federal government was shut down and the employees were sent home. They were later paid lost wages, so in effect, they had a paid vacation.

"The authority to issue people's paychecks is mine. I have both constitutional and statutory authority," said Chiang, a Democrat. "Frankly, (the governor) is just trying to make me do something that's improper and illegal."

I didn't know the controller had the authority to set wages and decided who was and wasn't employed. Heck, why bother with a governor?

Those wacky Californians

/Why no, I do not, in fact, have any idea what I'm talking about :)

The governor can do this to federal employees, submitter? I did not know that.

Even if that's the case, how many people can say to their mortgage provider, "sorry...my pay is temporarily cut...I'll send you the money when they get around to paying me..."?

Schwarzenegger is a bigger fark-up than the guy they recalled to elect him in the first place. He's CONSTANTLY trying to balance the budget on the backs of the poor, while keeping tax loopholes alive & well for him and his rich buddies.

I think it's time for a Total Recall of Schwarzenegger.

/yes, with a side of cheese

Here's an idea - stop giving sanctuary to millions of "undocumented" ctizens - that should save them a freakin' FORTUNE!!!

Here's an idea. Fire the state. That'll save you some farking money.

I think it would make more sense to switch the included and excluded employees in Ahnold's plan.

THIS

Schwarzenegger is a total douche, with no concept of what it means to be poor (or even middle class).

I live in Sacramento, and most of my friends and family members are state workers, and believe me, this hits hard.
The average rent in Sacramento for a one-bedroom apartment is about $700-$800 a month. $6.55 at 40hrs a week (and you can damn well bet you're still going to pay taxes on it) will just barely make sure you have a roof over your head, if you live alone and have no other outstanding debts. I hate to even think what it's like if you've got a family to support.

You try buying groceries, filling up your gas tank, or even paying the $100 or more a month it costs to park downtown so you can continue to work with a "don't worry, the state says I'll be getting it all back in a month or two when they pass the budget"

The cruelist part is, grinching the state workers out of a few extra bucks per hour saves the State of California NOTHING.

They still have to pay back the difference as soon as the budget gets passed. All it does is make things that much tighter for the poor suckers trying to keep this state running while the wealthy asshats argue over who gets to cut million dollar deals to their buddies.

Well, maybe the illegals will do the work the Americans don't want to do... for minimum wage...

BlackArt 2008-07-25 03:31:10 PM
I wonder if he expects them to actually work for a living. I would be working on quitting and finding other work as fast as I can. You can't just beat people up financially and expect them to do good work for you. The stress alone is going to destroy any focus they have.

Cutting workers salaries first does not save much money. Better off having a freeze on contractors. I expect that won't happen. Most state contractors are too politically connected for that to happen.

He's married to Maria Shriver who is a Kennedy.

How does Governor Terminator even think it's legal to lower a state employee's pay below the state's minimum wage?

Am I missing something here? Does he really expect state employees to work for less than someone working at the In-N-Out burger?

Government employees are frequently regulated differently than private employees. For instance: in a government-funded lab, the retirement is probably a separate government program, so you don't pay into social security, and OSHA has no jurisdiction. Doesn't always make obvious sense, but there it is. It's quite likely that he can bypass the state wage for Cali employees if he wants.

SubBass49: He's CONSTANTLY trying to balance the budget on the backs of the poor,

Most people are in fact poor. So what you said was 'hes constantly trying to make due with what he has'.

Hes also trying to keep big business in CA with his 'loopholes'.

CA is HUGE economically. It needs to be its own country.

I enjoy that no one is even slightly upset that the legislature is proposing budgets which result in ten billion dollar deficits. No wonder Washington gets away with it: they won't even hold their local representatives accountable.

SCUBA_Archer 2008-07-25 06:04:33 PM
First of all the CA State minimum wage is $8.00/hr (So says the poster in my office). This means that State workers will be making less than ANYONE in the state of CA (except the illegals...). Pretty interesting that this can happen.....I guess we will see how it plays out.

Except for that little factor that the biggest industry in CA is agriculture and those workers are the engine that runs it. On some issues I like the Governator, but he's clueless about the economy.

"Local" has a different meaning in California. We're bigger economically and population wise than most other countries.
