Maybe he can celebrate on the strip in Vegas, or maybe he's got a Tokyo eye for where to spend this birthday.

I wonder if he will celebrate by making some noisy "music"?

OK, that wasn't fair. I just actaully listened to the linked song and it wasn't that bad.

I lol'ed.

Seriously, though, every song they write isn't slathered in feedback. two of my favorite albums by them are Sonic Nurse and Murray Street, both of which are much mellower, melodic.

Look up "Unmade Bed" on YouTube. It's an excellent song.

Great Band...had a thing for Kim when I was younger...

Got to open for them once back in the mid-80's. They were pretty cranky, but rightfully so: the promoter had promised them quite a bit more than he actually had to give, and they almost didn't play as a result. Eventually they did, though. That was just a club gig in New Orleans; the only other time I saw them was quite different -- playing on a bill with Neil Young at the old Hemisfair Arena in San Antonio.

Those are both pretty good albums, but they are no Evol my friend.

Try this one too for something recent.

Seconded! Their sounds has evolved so much, yet the last few albums have been consistently great. "Rain on Tin" live is totally incredible.

Hey, Thurston's newest solo album was farking yacht rock. It was garbage. The Starbucks thing and the new SYR not being on vinyl really irk me, too.

But I went to see him live anyway in January anyway and he's pretty cool, and the 4th of July Battery Park show this year was the best free show I've ever been to.

Anyway, happy birthday, Thurston.

Thurston Moore has got some of the most amazing understated rock-god stage presence I've ever seen.

I'd put him in a 4-way tie with Dee Dee Ramone, Malcolm Young and Carrie Brownstein.

eh, Sonic Nurse was kind of meh. Half great, half crap. Murray Street was really good though. Though I would say Rather Ripped was what their early to mid 90s work should've sounded like.

I still seriously question anyone's taste if they hate Daydream Nation, though.

carmody 2008-07-26 12:56:15 PM
DAYDREAM NATION is the single greatest recorded work of music ever put on vinyl. Period.

Happy birthday, mophead.
