Let's turn this into a cougar thread, shall we?

Yeah, OK, we get it subby... you don't like Mellencamp. Some of us do.

He's still on the "not cool to like" list.
(Saw him play with John Fogerty a few years ago. Fantastic show.)

I love Mellencamp, the new album is his best in a long time, IMO. DIAF subby

I read it as "John Mellencamp retards the same old ground". Thanks for a laugh, subby.

/Doesn't hate John Mellencamp
/Certainly not a fan, though

Looking forward to getting the album, I dig the guy.

Puts on a great live show as well.

/Rough Harvest FTW

John Mellencamp = poor man's Springsteen.

/he writes a better pop song though

Oh, please. All of us have been subjected to "Our Country" at least 4,127 times, so I think I'm entitled to have the opinion that John Mellencamp can bite me.

Pentaxian 2008-07-25 03:06:43 PM
Be careful! Don't cross him! He'd kill his mother for a #1 album. According to his manager. Read Hit men by Fredric Dannen for more.

Also he's lied about his past associations. Read The Man with the Naked Piano (new window) it is about Eric Rosser, a pedophile. A compelling read. BTW it's not very graphic but if you have been a molestation victim you may not want to read.

Relevant part of the article:

John Mellencamp refused interviews about his former bandmate. Mellencamp's one sentence press release apparently misstated that Rosser played with his band "for a short period in 1979" and he hadn't seen him since. According to a former band member who asked not to be identified, Rosser didn't leave the group until the summer of 1981. Mellencamp's "just trying to protect his playlist," one former entourage member says. "He's got a nice income from replays on soft-rock stations."

Rural Route is an awesome song. As good as any Springsteen song. Anyone who disagrees with me still thinks "Unforgiven III" on Metallica's new album will be awesome.

His music sucks, always has

Who is it who sings "Little t!tties on my sister Diane?"

mehwe 2008-07-25 08:42:05 PM
Can't stand the man...or maybe it was cause a rather odd ex bf of mine used sing "dance naked" in the shower.....the ex that resembled a large hockey player crossed with Winnie the Pooh...

But really, I liked Pink Houses and Wild Night but I think that had to do with Me'shell Ndegeocello and her awesome-ness

I suppose he's okay, but songs "Pink Houses" and "Jack and Diane" just make me want to vomit in rage!

Enough already! (yes I'm looking at you Classic Rock and Oldies stations).

John Cougar Mellencamp is one of my all time favorites. I admit that I like his old stuff more than his new (post 2000), but I still think he's great.
