CNN's bias has been pretty clear from the start. They want Clinton or McCain... the fact that Obama won has been a real burr in the ass of the political analysts at CNN.

From the blog comments:

"It's what we must assume is the truth as the right wingers have discovered all the inaccuracies in his birth certificate, thus ruining Obama's candidacy. It's also possible he's a robot. Also making him ineligible. Double ineligible if he's a Kenyan robot."

Awesome.

"It's interesting, Christianne pointed out, that the Senator did talk about his mother, born in the heartland of America, but 'my father grew up herding goats in Kenya', and that's where you even heard a large part of that crowd giving a Kenyan cry, which made Barack Obama smile, bringing him back to his home country."

This looks more like a speaking gaffe than anything else. I doubt CNN or whoever this anchor is was trying to say Obama is a Kenyan, or a Muslim. "Bringing him back to his home country" I think merely refers to his father's roots.

If you're going to willingly associate yourself with Africa, you can't feign outrage at us simple, regular Americans when we make a slip of the tongue referring to your nation of heritage as your "home country." I mean, seriously, if you insist on the association with Africa, instead of just calling yourself a simple American like the rest of us, it's you who are inviting this.

You are completely insane. Go read a book. It doesn't matter which one. I'm sure they can all help you in some way.

Not knowing the context of this comment (didn't read TFA), I can't say whether it's purposefully bias or not, but CNN has it in for Obama.

They put a negative spin on everything he does, dwell for days on non-stories that seem like they were faxed over by Karl Rove, parse his every word looking for a "gotcha", all but ignore the constant stream of gaffes/lies/alzheimer's spewing from McCain's mouth, and then run a ongoing series of reports about how bias the media is in Obama's favor. Aaaargh!

jgi 2008-07-25 12:24:40 PM
I think you should only be called African-American, Irish-American, whatever, if you're actually from that country (or continent in Africa's case). For example, take my wife... please!

Re: darconix "quit calling yourself african american", I'm fairly certain Obama has repeatedly emphasized that black, white, yellow, brown; jew, christian, fsm-er, muslim; conservative or liberal, republican or democrat we are all americans, so no, I won't blame this on Obama for people using a label. I will, however, entertain the nation that somehow, some way, cnn farked up. Now whether or not it was even vaguely intentional is sort of ridiculous to ponder, maybe it was or maybe it wasn't, but it's a little nuts to claim that obviously Obama brought this on himself because he is all about divisive labelling and wedge politics. I think you're thinking of the other guys.

Heck, even some Dem politicians called him Osama once if memory serves correct, which is spotty at best) by accident. I doubt it was intentional.

I've never heard anyone ever suggest before that CNN was leaning to the right, let alone have a personal bias against Obama.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say Israel is important to this country for a host of reasons.

Strategy in the air, support of democracy abroad, etc.

Presidential candidates would go to Taiwan too for the same reasons... if the US wasn't on the verge of selling them out.

Believe me, once that sh*t goes down, we'll be talking about how simple things were when we just had to deal with the MIDDLE east. Cuz when China pops Taiwan it's going to be eight kinds of crazy internationally on every level.

/Taiwan, Israel, Pakistan, all very similar countries in a geo-political sense. you could extend it ireland too I guess, and not be too far off (except for their whole neutrality thing)

//so yes a presidents plans for those countries and his foreign policy is pretty f'n important, for a brazillian reasons.

Begs the question: should the US be policing the world? More harm than good comes from it...and we can no longer afford it without an industrial base. Ron Paul. I say, secure our borders and give the rest of the world freedom to live like they want.

Cuz when China pops Taiwan it's going to be eight kinds of crazy internationally on every level.

We'll huff and we'll puff . . . and let it happen. Ron Paul.

GoodasGold
you raise a valid question. Should the United States police the world? No, obviously not.

But I think there's a point where being involved in the world is required. Closing out borders and tuning out what goes on in the rest of the world just isn't a viable option (nor was it ever.)

Example: If the east asian market collapses will we be effected?

If there's a war in the middle east will we be effected?

If (microbes/aphids/disease/labor disputes) ravage south american coffee harvests are we effected?

Obviously the answer to all of these questions is yes. We need to be an active participate in global markets (we have no choice). It would behoove us to operate in the international community helping assuage dissonance, encourage peace, and give aid to those who need it.

I 'm not going to say we have a MORAL responsibility to get involved... I think once involved that may be the case, but before that I think its a matter of ethics.

The case can be made that we can't afford NOT to be involved on the world stage, we simply have too much at stake. HOW we go about doing that is another thing, but whether or not we do is empty rhetoric. We must.

So to answer the unasked question of should we be involved in those countries I listed fates? Absolutely, in my opinion we helped form those countries (literally) and are beholden to their well being.

I also think our resources could be better spent in other parts of the world (ie; Africa.. specifically Darfur in the east, and West Africa in.. well..). With substantial aid to THOSE areas we can actually create markets, help them, help ourselves by doing so, and be morally and ethically in the right.

/thats how I feel about it.
//Not being anti-Ron Paul. I'm being pro-responsible America.

BMulligan 2008-07-25 01:27:29 PM
I always wonder how anyone could possibly think that CNN is biased to the left. You've got Lou Dobbs, Larry King, Wolf "Beard of Destiny" Blitzer and, for extra wingnut goodness, Bill Schneider - who is a resident fellow (new window) at the American Enterprise Institute, fer chrissakes! - where are the liberals, pray tell?

snkliquid 2008-07-25 01:27:45 PM
The media doesn't care about anything but getting you to watch. They have failed us in their duty to report on the issues. IMO, the lack of integrity of the media has been the story of this election season.
